Sky Sports – Gamez Plus Defender Set To Join Newcastle

1:50 pm, Thursday, July 7th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 19 Comments

On their transfer center Sky Sports are reporting as breaking news that Jesus Gamez is expected to have a medical at Newcastle – which is not exactly ground-breaking news.

But the other real news is that Newcastle expect to sign another defender this week too – and there have been lots of news that player will be a center-back,  but exactly who is unknown.

We’ve been linked with about 50 center-backs over the last two weeks.

The local reports are that Newcastle are expected to sign Gamez today, so he should be arriving in Newcastle soon.

Of all the transfer rumors it seems the one for Jesus Gamez going to Newcastle is the most likely to happen with a rating of 4.6.

Gamez always looked like a good signing. I’m glad it’s been resurrected.

Pogba to Man U for 100 mil. Crazy money!

TP, they had him for nothing but Fergie kicked him out because he had an attitude – wanting a pay rise to you and me. As far as the saying ‘what goes around comes around’ goes, could you find a better example? 😉 Could it happen to a nicer club?

I’v just been reading up on it, they offered him a contract but I guess it was a poor one. He only left them in 2012 hahaha. Crazy stuff. I wonder how much he will command in wages and will get just 3-4 years later. Bizarre.

Wondering who this second defender is? Would you take Caulker?

  • 6 Bobbybee // Jul 7, 2016 at 2:28 PM

There appears to be growing belief that both Spurs and Liverpool might be prepared to pay the price for Gini. Maybe even Sissoko. With Rafa’s pulling power, the mind boggles as who he might replace them with, with that amount of money to invest. If they do go, expect our transfer record to be smashed by who he has in mind. It just keeps getting better.

TP, I’ve given up trying to second guess Rafa, he just keeps upping the ante! Caulker I could live with, but his signings so far have come as a surprise so it might be someone not even mentioned yet. I was reading West Ham and Everton can’t believe Jesus has chosen us over them, so nobody is out of bounds to us now. Exciting times, like i keep saying. We deserve it anyway, after years of dross. 😉

Euros – not that many players really notable of a mention as far as super skills/abilities standing out.
Payet was good in his first couple of games but for me it has to be Pogba. Seems to have everything. sometimes deceives by looking a tiny bit clumsy. But what a player. can dribble, head, tackle, run all day, few tricks.
Tremendous player -in the right hands.

a lot of talk about another full back from spain joining us soon Álvaro Arbeloa
anyone got anything on this this ??

This would be an unbelievable signing given where we are. Attracting a player from one of spains established top 3 sides to a second tier english club is nowt short of spectacular. Athletico probably have the most solid defence out of those top 3. Even though he isn’t first choice, he is going to be a very good player in this league.

Not first choice in spain i mean

It’s looking like Grant Hanley of Blackburn Rovers. Apparantly we have been in touch.

Another Scottish international. Decent squad player I guess? Could do a job for this season.

  • 13 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Jul 7, 2016 at 2:50 PM

Chronicle reporting that Rafa Benitez has targeted Grant Hanley the Scotland international to bolster the centre of his defence following the exit of Fabricio Coloccini.

Sources in Lancashire say that Newcastle made an enquiry for the 24-year-old this week and the 6ft 3in Dumfries-born centre-back is thought to be open to the move to St James’ Park .

So Gamez looks set to sign with an approach made for Grant Hanley. Just a left back needed now. Then we can replace any players that really really want to leave I.e Gini, Sissoko, Tiote etc.

Think Janmaat is defo leaving now

  • 15 JamesToon // Jul 7, 2016 at 2:52 PM

    Toon prodigy

He has experience and is a leader, squad player or not, he’s a player that will be key to transitioning from the championship to the prem.

  • 16 Bobbybee // Jul 7, 2016 at 2:53 PM

TP, as I recall it was when Rooney was threatening to leave in order to get 250k a week. Pogba was only on about a few grand a week and wanted more. They offered him more, but not what he was worth even at that time, so he told Fergie where to stick it. You could see his potential even then, but Fergie decided to boot him out. Who’s laughing now? Well, me and you for a start! 😉

  • 17 Toon-Prodigy // Jul 7, 2016 at 2:57 PM

I’ll take him as 3rd choice all day for this season. As you say good leadership skills, good height at 6.3 and can chip in with a goal now and then.

I think we will start with mbemba and lascelles though. Decent competition I think. Decent signing if it can be pulled off.

  • 18 Bobbybee // Jul 7, 2016 at 3:05 PM

I see Hanley as good cover for Mbemba and Lascelles, who should be using this season to prepare for the next season back in the premier. With jesus brought in as experience to help them develop. He might even be Rafa’s choice as captain for this season. (Jesus, not Hanley). I expect Rafa to put a limit on how long Gini and Sissoko can be bought, so we’re not left struggling to replace them. If they’re still here when the season starts, I’ll be shocked if he even considers offers after that time. Newcastle’s needs before that of any player.
