Interesting point re the Euro final it’s being reffed by Mark Clattenburg – apparently he is now living in Gosforth.
    Decent ref I think.

  • 2 Ron Knee // Jul 8, 2016 at 1:26 PM

    I think he’s a Newcastle supporter, MT.

  • 3 NUFCPaul // Jul 8, 2016 at 1:38 PM

I’m definitely in the ‘get rid for a crazy fee’ camp for Sissoko. As much as I’d like to see the players who got us into this mess get us out of it, we’re in this mess for a reason. Part of the problem was certain players just not giving a toss, and Sissoko was one of them.

He may have pace (when he can be bothered to use it – once or twice a game isn’t enough) and strength, but technical skill (which he doesn’t have too much of anyway) alone isn’t enough. You need a good attitude and commitment to the club, which he hasn’t got. Way too lazy for his own good, and totally the wrong attitude to succeed in the Championship. We need players who will run through brick walls to get us back up, especially on a Wednesday night, in the rain, at lower league stadiums. Can anyone really see Sissoko doing that? I’ll take the 20 million quid instead thanks.

  • 4 The one and Ayoze 17 // Jul 8, 2016 at 1:42 PM

Good signing, will bring some much needed experience to the back four, just a LB and CB to go and I’ll be happy with this window.

  • 5 NUFCPaul // Jul 8, 2016 at 1:44 PM

As for Clattenburg, he was born in Consett and it a Toon supporter, which is why he’s never reffed any of our competitive fixtures. Each ref has to declare their team to the FA and they’re prevented from taking charge of fixtures involving those teams for obvious reasons.

  • 6 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Jul 8, 2016 at 1:44 PM

Clattenburg is a TOON fan along with the lad from Ashington – Michael Oliver who has also been at the Euros.

Two decent referees who cannot ref the TOON

  • 8 Toonfan8 // Jul 8, 2016 at 1:51 PM

Good signing, Rafa knows what he needs and he is doing that, now he has to bring CB and then wait, if Sissoko, Wijnaldum or Janmaat will go somewhere…

Newcastle Have Signd Youngsters Yasin Ben El-Mhanni and Stuart.

  • 12 JAMSHA // Jul 8, 2016 at 2:05 PM

Stuart Findlay Was Highly Rated By Celtic

  • 13 geordie157 // Jul 8, 2016 at 2:10 PM

The signing of gamez has made think, we need more beards in the side!

  • 14 Our Toon // Jul 8, 2016 at 2:14 PM

We need at least 3 cbs especially for the championship with 2 games a week. Saylor and colo gone also Williamson was sold so defence is the most worrying even if we get Hanley

  • 15 bettyswallocks // Jul 8, 2016 at 2:16 PM

Looks a good solid signing. He’ll bring invaluable experience to our back line. We mustn’t expect him to be the new messiah though, there are some rumours already circulating that he can be a very naughty boy.

  • 16 Mister Tuff // Jul 8, 2016 at 2:20 PM

Jamsha – is Yasin Ben El-Mhanni signed up or on trial.
Just been checking him out -see he has had trials with Chelsea and West Brom.
Loads of tricks/skill but dubious all round game.
    Nicknamed the non league Mahrez.

  • 17 Rafa Revolution // Jul 8, 2016 at 2:26 PM

Mister Tuff signed them both permanently

  • 18 Mister Tuff // Jul 8, 2016 at 2:30 PM

Just been checking out a compilation video of this kid on the Guardian pages. Looks a bit skinny but I’ve never seen such awesome tricks and ball control.

  • 19 YoungMagpieFromBurnley // Jul 8, 2016 at 2:31 PM

    The beard <3

Don't know why but a Spanish signing just gets me excited. Who was our last Spanish player? Xisco? Let's hope Gamez doesn't flop…

  • 20 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 8, 2016 at 2:35 PM

Although Xisco was the last one to leave, i think Jose Enrique is probably the last spanish player we had who contributed in any meaningful way. I think he was signed around the same time as Xisco.

  • 21 Back Door Man // Jul 8, 2016 at 2:36 PM

Jesus is clearly an excellent signing who’ll bring a little extra to the Toon.  I can see him being called into the treatment room, ‘laying on his hands’, and getting the lame to walk.  Perhaps Manuel should also hire Doc Eva as she could put the Chelskiesque ‘hex’ on our opponents.  Jesus and Eva, what a partnership.

  • 22 YoungMagpieFromBurnley // Jul 8, 2016 at 2:38 PM

Yeah mark Enrique was very good for us. I just hope he is good for us.

  • 23 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 8, 2016 at 2:38 PM

I’m wrong. Enrique signed in 2007. Xisco 2008. They left in 2011 and 2013 respectively.

  • 24 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 8, 2016 at 2:41 PM

I wonder if the NUFC Twitter account will do what man citeh did with Navas, and have an “Ask Jesus” session. I loved the way it descended into chaos.

  • 25 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 8, 2016 at 2:50 PM

    Mr T

Just watched that vid. Seems to have all the technique in the world. Be interesting to see how he develops.

  • 26 welshgeordie9 // Jul 8, 2016 at 2:50 PM

Still no news on a centre back.

  • 27 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 8, 2016 at 2:52 PM

Nothing solid, but since our signings seem to come out of the blue these days, i dont think we need worry yet.

  • 28 Shadow_Shearer // Jul 8, 2016 at 2:56 PM

This young yasir bin mhanni looks like he’s got exception ball control, but that doesn’t mean alot in the premiership, or championship. At this level every player has ball control.

Remy cabella could do keepie ups all day, but he couldn’t do anything in a game.
Also mhanni was given trails from West brom 6 months ago & didn’t sign.

Don’t judge him by these adverts where he’s doing skills with no defenders around him. A defender won’t give u time to do keepie ups.

  • 29 JamesToon // Jul 8, 2016 at 2:58 PM

We’ve apparently signed the “non league Mahrez” with Yassin Ben El Mhanni, he’s 20 so we could see him feature this season?

  • 30 Shadow_Shearer // Jul 8, 2016 at 2:59 PM

I believe rafa wanted all his players signed up by today. Isn’t the team leaving for Ireland today.
There is no way rafa is going with only lascelle & mbemba for a full season of 46 games.
    I’m expecting late arrivals.

  • 31 Jaybee // Jul 8, 2016 at 3:00 PM

Sissoko put more effort into 90 minutes last night than he has done all season for us.
Obviously trying to impress potential clubs.

Sell this waste of space for as much as we can get then forget about the gutless bastard.

  • 32 Nufc-83 // Jul 8, 2016 at 3:02 PM

Our toon using stats to back up mousse being half decent is laughable as I actually watched the game and his passes where about 3-4 yards backwards or sideways. He made one good run in which he linked up with 2-3 players quickly so that is why I said he has a decent game as in the other games he done nothing at all. The one long pass he tried to switch the play got intercepted. Let’s just wait and see him at a top club which will happen and we can see who has the last laugh when he’s rotting on the bench.

  • 33 Slank // Jul 8, 2016 at 3:06 PM

Now that we have signed Stuart Findley and perhaps soon to be followed by Grant Hanley when was the last time we signed a Scottish player ?

In the old days (1960s) they came from over the border by the bus load.

  • 34 welshgeordie9 // Jul 8, 2016 at 3:08 PM

I know mate, just I always get a bit greedy with signings, once one comes in you want others to come in straight after, like last week when we signed 3 in a space of couple of days.

  • 35 Our Toon // Jul 8, 2016 at 3:18 PM

    Nufc 83

You said he couldn’t pass, you didn’t say he can make passes if 3-4 yards but can’t make anything from more than that. I said yesterday that I’m no fan of sissoko but just think a lot of fans are taking out the frustrations of the fact that under Ashley we are utter shite and then take it out on those like gini and sissoko who want to further themselves at better clubs that are better run.

Make your mind up what you want though mate, you twisted when pardew was here and we were going long as did I, now you are twisting because a player you can’t stand made most of his passes in a 4 yard distance in your eyes. BTW his average was 8 yards with 16 yards the furthest pass. You can’t even bring yourself to say he played really well

Meanwhile a player you praised and said would go nowhere as Rafa resurrected his career has joined Pardew at palace…..that big club apparently. Sissoko is here and if he stays then good if he doesn’t then good if we get a replacement. This team already lacks pace and strength and for the championship we will need both, look on the bright side though.

The most apparent thing last night was that sissoko played well with plenty of movement around him in a team brimming with confidence…..all things our beloved nufc aren’t and haven’t been for some time

  • 36 WWSBRD // Jul 8, 2016 at 3:23 PM

I don’t really like Sissoko but he’s a good player, best we have imo and hides a lot less than Gini

If he stays Rafa will certainly bring the best out of him if he goes Rafa will certainly milk the fee. He sees the Euros as a shop window to gain another club but with every good showing the club are adding to his asking price

  • 37 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Jul 8, 2016 at 3:30 PM

    Whenever we had a decent team we had scotsmen;
Hughie Gallager, Bobby Mitchell, Ronnie Simpson, Jimmy scoular – before my time
but in my time: Bob Moncur, Dave Hilley, Jimmy Scott, Tommy Gibb, Jinky Jim Smith, Mark McGee, John MacNamee, John Henrie, Roy Aitken to name but a few

Anyway who was the last Scottish player to play regular for the TOON – not sure but must of been a few years ago – no doubt I am missing someone but could it be Roy Aitken

Might my my Kilt for the first home game of the season – Toon Army Tartan – kna – Northumberland Tartan – black ‘n’ white dogtooth

  • 38 WWSBRD // Jul 8, 2016 at 3:35 PM

Oh hey we signed two young uns up aswell, gan on Rafa not ignoring the reserves! Seriously this bloke doesn’t understand NUFC does he?

  • 39 Rotonda heights // Jul 8, 2016 at 3:37 PM

Think you need to lay off the ”manuel” jibes now, getting a bit boring.

  • 40 nightfa11 // Jul 8, 2016 at 3:37 PM

last spanish player we signed was perez- an already made replacement for wini and/or sissoko..

  • 41 YoungMagpieFromBurnley // Jul 8, 2016 at 3:40 PM

Oh yeah lmao. Can’t believe that I forgot Perez.

  • 42 Nufc-83 // Jul 8, 2016 at 3:41 PM

Our toon he actually didn’t play that well though it’s all hype I would love to sit and watch the game with you so we could talk through his plays.

I never said once that Townsend would stay he was always going to leave but I said tthe two best things would be to keep Rafa and Townsend. Townsend will go on and do very well at palace.

There’s also a difference to going long all the time and wasting possession as like the pardew days to passing short with purpose. Sissokho passing short was to get rid of the ball as he didn’t have the ability to go past his man or find a purposeful ball forward.

  • 43 WWSBRD // Jul 8, 2016 at 3:42 PM

I think little Ayoze might say he’s done some meaningful stuff for us no?

  • 44 Slank // Jul 8, 2016 at 3:42 PM

One of the first games I saw was when McNamee scythed down an opponent who went crashing into the advertising boards in a big heap much to the acclaim of the crowd and the fury of their manager.

I suppose the last Scotsman to arrive was Cathro but he wasn’t a player.

That list you gave sure reflects on how things have sadly changed north of the border.

  • 45 Shadow_Shearer // Jul 8, 2016 at 3:43 PM

I’m betting Ed next headline will be

    Newcastle sign non league mahrez

  • 46 Slank // Jul 8, 2016 at 3:49 PM

Is it because we are in the Championship or things are done differently under Rafa that we are not seeing the hullabaloo about who is or is not we are going to buy that so characterised previous transfer windows ?

Looking from the outside there seems a quiet determination to get things done with as little fuss as possible. It bodes well.

  • 47 Jail for Ashley // Jul 8, 2016 at 3:54 PM

  • 49 Menorca mag // Jul 8, 2016 at 3:55 PM

regarding Jesus, just to inform you of the pronunciation of the word Jesus. In Spanish the J is pronounced H, therefore Hesus. Hope this helps

  • 50 Tsunki // Jul 8, 2016 at 3:58 PM

Rotonda – I fear Back Door Boy needs to lay off a lot of things, not least the contact adhesive. His jokes about “Manuel” the waiter and “Jesus” (I hope the matchgoing fans pronounce it “Hehsoos” or it could be as embarrassing as BDM’s scant juxtaposition) Gamez as a clubhouse miracle worker make Welshgeordie look like a side-splitting comic.

He makes a lot of the same random inserts of posters, who may have previously dealt him injury, in his comments just like Ian Toon, the moment he snugs up in Belfasts crevice will be his denouement I fear. 🙂

  • 51 Nufc-83 // Jul 8, 2016 at 3:59 PM

Paul dalglish must have been Scottish :). We had a winger aswell on the fringe of the first team but can’t remember his name

  • 52 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Jul 8, 2016 at 3:59 PM

Cheers lads – still a while since we have had a regular in our team

  • 53 Tsunki // Jul 8, 2016 at 3:59 PM

Ah menorca mag, just in time ha ha

  • 54 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 8, 2016 at 3:59 PM

How on earth did i forget about Perez ffs!?

Menorca mag… yeah i knew that. It just always brings a bit of mirth when you see it written ?

  • 55 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 8, 2016 at 4:03 PM

Yeag, Hopefully people will not be shouting “Jesus” at the games. Making written puns is one thing, but taking the mick out of his name where he might hear it is a bit much when it’s your own teams player

  • 56 Rafa Revolution // Jul 8, 2016 at 4:06 PM

That young lad we have signed is a cb

Just failed an audition to play Romeo, all because of a misunderstanding of a stage direction.
My copy of the script quite clearly said ……”Enter Juliet from the rear”

  • 58 Mister Tuff // Jul 8, 2016 at 4:10 PM

Well that’s killed some potential jokes.
Most of the dopes on here/mischief makers – they have not appeared yet – would be thinking his name was pronounced with a J (Jay)

  • 59 Tsunki // Jul 8, 2016 at 4:12 PM

I was wondering what was going to mention Perez. As for Scots, weren’t there 2 caldwells?
