Benitez Begins Clearout At Newcastle As Striker Leaves

News today that striker Papiss Cisse is leaving Newcastle United for Chinese club  Shandong Luneng.

There had been rumors for over a year now that Papiss would end his career in China and that’s going to happen for the likable striker.

The 35 times capped Senegal striker (16 goals) started his career at Newcastle in early 2012 like a steam train – with 13 goals in his first 14 games, after we signed him from SC Freiburg for around £9M.

Papiss Cisse – leaving Newcastle

Here’s what Newcastle put out on their web-site today.

Papiss Cisse has left Newcastle United to join Shandong Luneng.

The 31-year-old striker has signed for the Chinese Super League club for an undisclosed fee, and leaves Tyneside after four-and-a-half years.

Cisse joined the Magpies in January 2012 from SC Freiburg and scored 44 goals in 131 appearances for the Club.

Everyone at St. James’ Park wishes Papiss all the best for the next stage of his career.

Papiss played 131 times for Newcastle with 44 goals in four and a half years and turned out to be a good signing for us and we wish Papiss all the very best in his new challenge.

And here’s the tweets put out by Newcastle earlier today with Papiss’ phenomenal goal at Chelsea, when we took them apart 2-0 in 2012 – the season we finished above them in the Premier League and in 5th place.

After that game we were on 65 points and one point behind 3rd paced Arsenal, but we lost our last two games against Manchester City and Everton.

Cisse scored in the 19th and 90th minutes – and this is the late goal that clinched all 3 points.

Rafa Benetiz will be allowing certain players to leave that do not fit in with his future plans and Cheick Tiote could also end up in China, but we are hoping Rafa keeps the combative midfielder at the club for the last year of his contract.

But we’ll have to wait and see if that happens.

Any transfer fees Rafa gets this summer from outgoing transfers can be reinvested in the squad.

Great goal against Chelsea – Steve Claridges reaction after the goal was tremendous -he was stunned.
Laterly Cisse had a betting scoring rate with all the slappers he was being associated with.

Some exciting transfers happening. Of course I’m gutted we are relegated but as daft as it sounds seeing subotic talking to Middlesbrough makes me sad. If only we were in premiership we could snapped him up.

Lindisfarne, wrt the article you posted, if one read between the lines with the final comment, you might think it possible that Rafa will strike a deal with sissoko that provided he stays this season and helps get us promoted, then he can go next season, everyone will be happy.

The other one he scored in the same game was very good too, he was some player that season, if he was still doing it we wouldn’t be in the championship, but wouldn’t have the rafalution either.

Cisse’s departure was right and timely.Had a cracking half a season when he first arrived, And yes was played out of position when Ba was here.
But for me should have been sold a couple seasons ago when we were being offered stupid money for him.

My worry now is if Mitrovic fails in the championship…Where does that leave him ??

Usual high standards in grammatical accuracy at the Chronic:

“Where is the deals for Hanley and Hayden at?”

“The player is understood to have came through his medical with no issues after making the journey north to Tyneside.”

Great news and we got a fee for him.

Fantastic for those six months and then was pretty ferking awful after that. He did still pop up with some important goals to be fair too him, but his general all round play just got worse and worse.

Cisse’s second touch was always a tackle but good luck to him. Scored some great goals for us and was great with the fans. Good luck fella.

If you look back on Cisse’s term at Newcastle he started with a bang but was a damp squib for 3 years. Basically not good enough either in control or scoring goals. He never fulfilled his promise!
