Both the Chronicle and the Shields Gazette are reporting the signing of defender Isaac Hayden from Arsenal is close and should be completed either today or tomorrow.
This will be Newcastle’s second defender signed within a couple of days, after 31 year-old Jesus Gamez was reported as a Newcastle player around lunchtime yesterday on an initial two year deal.
Hayden will be the fifth overall signing by Rafa Benitez within a short 9 days, as Newcastle are quickly adding quality and quantity to their Championship squad.
Isaac Hayden – could sign today
The versatile 21-year-old defender can play at right-back, center-back or defensive midfield and he is highly rated after a good season-long loan spell at Hull City last season.
Isaac played 24 games for the Tigers in their successful promotion drive.
And last night the Chronicle’s Lee Ryder tweeted that the deal for Isaac Hayden was close.
Expecting this deal to be confirmed over the weekend. Very close. https://t.co/NrYfLcOpIe

The big question Newcastle fans have is whether it’s a permanent signing or a loan signing.
We would prefer it to be a permanent deal, but we cannot see Arsene Wenger allowing one of his top young players to leave the north London club permanently this summer, so expect it to turn out to be a season long loan.
We hope we are wrong on that.
Since the Newcastle squad are due to leave for their training camp in Ireland today, we are sure the Tyneside club would like to get Isaac signed today.
But with four quality signings already completed this summer it would appear that a certain Rafa Benitez is a big attraction at Newcastle.
🙂
What do you think?

Comment #1We don’t know what goes on behind closed doors nor should we – it’s none of our business.
However there are loads of pointers to a sea change of attitude at NUFC if you have the wit to look for them.
The most obvious current one is the way transfers are handled.
Four top quality players in and signed and training with the squad , in the first week of the window after a barely a ripple of rumour.
Previously they would have been strung out over at least a fortnight and milked for every drop of publicity and self promoting kudos .
Plus
The Benton upgrade
The coaching staff improvements
The communication with the fans
The interface with the local community
and loads more

nothing else matters
don’t care what the fifa /football manager lot think about the players he’s signing if Rafa thinks a player will do the job in hand that will do for me

All very good and salient points there. rafa is the best thing to hit this club in a very long time.

Comment #4I think Hayden could be the first part of a deal with Arsenal which will culminate in Sissoko joining Wenger.
Patrick Viera was a huge favourite at Highbury Moussa could be perceived as his replacement at the Emirates

Comment #8This is going to be the best transfer window ever thanks to Rafa, when was the last time we signed 4 players, nearly 6 with Hayden possibly Hanley before first pre season friendly, what a Squad we’ve got this season.

Comment #10atm its frightening the quality we have in the team !
rafas going into fine details on all aspects of the club and in honesty even wor bobby was not this precise.
i’m expecting as i always have to lose sissoko , wijnaldum , janmaat and krul but ill have to admit now i’m even doubting they will go at all ! not for them wanting to go but purely for the rafa effect as he gets what he wants.

Santon refused to have a relegation paycut written in his contract at the Stadium of Shyte.
Well done Davide

Comment #14Gotta cash in on Krul, so I expect to see him playing in friendlies if fit and to put him in shop window. He came through the academy so will be very profitable, we have plenty of cover and he has not played with the current backline, or new.

Comment #15Could be a good signing I’ve no idea
I do enjoy a flurry of signings though haha. Still reckon we need 3 more after it and to clear the decks a bit, still a heap of crap in that squad

‘Going to be the best transfer window ever..’
Since the last one you mean ?
There have been too many false dawns.
Like the military often quote words to the effect that ‘No battle plan ever survives contact with the enemy’ similarly the joys of the fans with transfer activity rarely if ever survive following contact with the opposition in the first half of the season.
There are always duds. I wonder which one of the current batch will get the raspberry.

That can be said for any signing Nufc make pal.
One player can be a hit at one club and be a failure at another.
Unfortunately were not in the higher echelons of the PL,So Rafa has to build a squad to get us straight back up. At the moment i would say he is doing that, And nothing else should matter.
Uninspiring players….Maybe, But quality no less for the league we are in

Comment #19Ok I’m getting excited now. This is refreshing …Rafa bucking the trend and signing solid players for the positions we actually need, and doing it as early as possible. Gan on Rafa!

Comment #20I wouldn’t say the players are uninspiring at all, we now have players who are joining not to move to a bigger club but to be a part of Rafas bigger picture for the future, did people honestly think we’d manage to persuade the very best of Europe’s top leagues to play in the Championship. I think some people need to take a reality check. See Jib has finally realised the club is moving in the right direction and can do nothing to stop it.

That’s true. Luck de Jong and Jon Dahl Tomasson are perfect examples.
The standout activity in this transfer window is not the quality of the players as only time will tell but the way in which the club is doing its business and the timeliness getting them in before the friendlees start.
Is this because we are in the Championship or the growing influence of Rafa. I like to think it’s the latter.

Comment #28The major difference being we are buying for depth and balance, as you’d expect, and yeah early, that’s a big bonus.
