Newcastle Bid Again For Hanley – Hayden Passes Medical

2:20 pm, Saturday, July 9th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 41 Comments

The Chronicle (Lee Ryder) are reporting that Blackburn Rovers have already turned down two bids for Grant Hanley from the Magpies.

Newcastle are still negotiating however and will go in with a fresh bid today – so let’s hope that bid is accepted by Blackburn Rovers.

grant hanley

Grant Hanley – two bids turned down by Blackburn

With Coloccini having already been released to join San Lorenzo last week, you have got to think Rafa was confident of getting a center-back through the door and it seems that Grant is the number one target.

And the news from yesterday is that terms and everything else seem to have been agreed for the deal, with the stumbling block being the transfer fee.

Blackburn are holding out for a bigger payout from Newcastle.

Here are the tweets send out by the Chronicle’s Lee Ryder earlier today:

isaac hayden loan at hull

Isaac Hayden – has passed his Newcastle medical
On loan last seoasn at Hull

And the signing of Isaac Hayden from Arsenal – on a permanent deal or a loan deal, we don’t know what it will be – seems to be imminent with the 21 year-old reported by the Chronicle to have passed his medical today.

Comments welcome.

Mitrovic has a lot to prove after last season and if he fails in the championship, Then where does that leave him ??
Perez i feel is not a natural out and out forward.
Gayle will hopefully prove me wrong and score the goals we need.
And Arma if im honest would give him a shot at the championship .If he cannot do it at championship level then he will never succeed in the PL

  • 2 Nufc-83 // Jul 9, 2016 at 2:28 PM

Jazzy would you say Suarez is not an out and out forward as that’s pretty much exactly how Perez plays (obv not on the same level).

  • 3 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 9, 2016 at 2:31 PM

I’m expecting us to keep hold of Perez and Mitro this summer and I’d be expecting huge things from both – if they score less than 25 goals each they’ll have failed and aren’t worthy of being deemed PL strikers.

I can see Mitro having a blinder in the Championship – Perez less so.

  • 4 Nufc-83 // Jul 9, 2016 at 2:33 PM

Perez won’t get as much game time as mitro or gayle IMO so won’t get 20 goals. I see Gayle hitting 25 but not Mitro.

  • 5 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 9, 2016 at 2:34 PM

I meant to write 15 goals each, rather than 25. My expectations aren’t that high! Haha

  • 6 toon22 // Jul 9, 2016 at 2:36 PM

Imho Mitro will be sold, some prem club will offer silly money and we will take it.
He just isnt the type of striker Rafa usually goes for.

  • 7 SPRINGY // Jul 9, 2016 at 2:37 PM

haha ruddy….thats more achievable, someone myt hit the 20+ goals but not sure who tbh.

  • 8 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 9, 2016 at 2:38 PM

Silly money as in getting our money back for him? His performances last season won’t justify a bid of more than £10m so without massive wages to worry about and not getting a lot of money for him I’d bet Mitro will be with us come next season.

  • 9 Nufc-83 // Jul 9, 2016 at 2:40 PM

    Mitro not going anywhere

  • 10 SPRINGY // Jul 9, 2016 at 2:40 PM

    toon 22
if mitro was to leave i feel it would be abroad, dont think his debut performance in premier was that eye catching to other premier league clubs…but there is always seems to be interest from abroad.

  • 11 Slank // Jul 9, 2016 at 2:40 PM

Does anyone know how many games Mitro is banned for ?

I’m assuming he can still play in friendly matches.

  • 12 SPRINGY // Jul 9, 2016 at 2:41 PM

slank 4 i believe it is mate

  • 13 toon22 // Jul 9, 2016 at 2:46 PM

Iirc Mitros stats for similar players at his age were very favorable indeed.
He was in a shocking team and is new to the league while still very young.
If you think how much money was thrown at Balotelli he was a total head case.

That and like i said Rafa dont usually have the big target man upfront.

  • 14 Slank // Jul 9, 2016 at 2:46 PM

I wonder who will lead the line as Gayle doesn’t appear to be a centre forward. Could it be an opportunity for Rivière ?

  • 15 jazzyp // Jul 9, 2016 at 2:46 PM

I don’t really know how to answer that buddy. Trying to compare Perez to Suarez is a bit mind blowing

  • 16 toon22 // Jul 9, 2016 at 2:48 PM

What usually happens there a last gasp rush for players in the prem, especially when a team sells late and is left desperate for someone to fill the gap.

    It happens every year.

  • 17 toon22 // Jul 9, 2016 at 2:49 PM

Also in the division were in most teams have big CH who will relish the fight Mitro brings, imho most of them hate quick players.
This is how Rafa plays so if an offer comes in he will sell.

  • 18 nightfa11 // Jul 9, 2016 at 2:50 PM

I think ritchie and Mitro could work well togerher.. Besides I cant see gayle score many with his head..and we do need at last 1 strong cf.. And if we sell Mitro, sissoko and tiote..we’re out of muscles.. 🙂 Mitro must stay..

  • 19 SPRINGY // Jul 9, 2016 at 2:51 PM

he may play gayle with gini or preferably SDJ behind him pulling the strings and using his pace to run the channels….i expect rivierre if not sold to be looked at in the warm ups, so he may get the nod.

  • 20 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 9, 2016 at 2:53 PM

I’d be amazed if either Gini or SDJ are at the club in August.

  • 21 wolfshead@toon // Jul 9, 2016 at 2:53 PM

corbyn’s laying into ashley at the miners gala haha

  • 22 SPRINGY // Jul 9, 2016 at 2:57 PM

think sdj will be but not so much gini…in fact i would sell gini now and use the money to get a few more players in.

  • 23 SPRINGY // Jul 9, 2016 at 2:59 PM

chronicle saying we are to replace cisse with another asap

  • 24 jazzyp // Jul 9, 2016 at 2:59 PM

Mitro out for the first 4 games which effectively leaves us with Gayle as our only out and out forward if Arma is loaned out.
I would say we need another goal scorer at the club for the long haul of the oncoming season

  • 25 SPRINGY // Jul 9, 2016 at 2:59 PM

    another striker

  • 26 WWSBRD // Jul 9, 2016 at 3:07 PM

A touch upset over Cisse leaving, I love that bloke but times right for both. People hated Pardew for HBA but for me his treatment of Cisse was unforgivable. Destroyed him

  • 27 nufc 11 // Jul 9, 2016 at 3:10 PM

Joel Campbell or Danny ings for me maybe Bertrand traore?

  • 28 Munster Mag // Jul 9, 2016 at 3:14 PM

Rafa will look to bring in a big mobile striker. Im not sure he rates mitro (preferred cisse) so the next purchase could be a good one, not a back up. He’s doing a great job and credit to charnley too. As i have said before, charnley does some aspects of his job well.

  • 29 Munster Mag // Jul 9, 2016 at 3:16 PM

Arma might be running out of time to be a striker at nufc. If we go up, he has even less chance of game time. Its this season or bust possibly.

  • 30 SPRINGY // Jul 9, 2016 at 3:18 PM

not a great start for the kid as he’s injured, so he’ll already be playing catch up when he’s back.

  • 31 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Jul 9, 2016 at 3:21 PM

Gonna be an interesting starting eleven 5th August

  • 32 LGFUAD21 // Jul 9, 2016 at 3:21 PM

That’s nonsense on Arma. He’s a very young lad that is showing great potential. I know we want to see a geordie lead the line and he could do great in the championship, but simply, if he isn’t gonna get a game, let’s loan him out to a lower championship side.

We are so eager in this country ATM to push kids through early. He won’t reach his prime until 26 so I wouldn’t expect to see him playing regularly in a toon shirt until at least 23. That gives him another 2/3 years.

  • 33 Toonces // Jul 9, 2016 at 3:25 PM

I think Cisse was preferred to Mitro based on his experience and that is what Rafa wanted to rely on in the relegation battle. A new season is a new beginning and Mito has an extra 4 weeks to work on his game and fitness.

One of the things that was glaringly lacking in the squad last season was real pace. The quad was just overall slow for much of the season. Intelligent play can make up for this in some ways but in the end you can’t really teach speed. It seems to me that the teams that the newly promoted teams last season had pace in their sides and it helped them get promoted and stay up.

The addition of Gayle helps with this. But the only other real starting player with pace in our side now is Sissoko. Townsend’s departure took his pace away. At the moment we have Armstrong, Aarons, Gayle and Sissoko, maybe Gini. With Gini and Sissoko questionable to remain, where is the pace in the team?

  • 34 LGFUAD21 // Jul 9, 2016 at 3:26 PM

    Well said on cisse.

I’ve defender him constantly to friends that support other clubs who write him off.

Form is temporary, class is permanent, sadly after pardew, Pardewed him by sticking him on the wing, he never gained momentum again.

Had he had his chance to keep leading the line for a series of games I reckon he’d have had his score boots back on in no time.

Definitely the right time as he had lost a yard of pace and some enthusiasm. Will destroy the Chinese league.

As for the mitro/cisse thing someone else mentioned.

I think it was more tactical. Cisse was more willing to pressure defenders (only under benitez though) and it allowed us to bring mitro on to bully tired defenders.

I hope mitro stays and plays. I think he can learn a lot from the championship and he’ll come back to the prem stronger if we go up.

Oddly, out of all my friends hat support other teams, they seem to rate him more than Gini et Al as the one with the most promise for the future.

His goal return really wasn’t bad for a poor team at his age in his first season.

  • 35 SPRINGY // Jul 9, 2016 at 3:29 PM

i think you maybe thinking of wwsbrd mate.

  • 36 Spoof // Jul 9, 2016 at 3:46 PM

Ritchie has bags of pace, so if we play with the expected 4-2-3-1 formation then the possibility is that the attacking 4 could be Ritchie, Sissoko, Aarons and Gayle, what you have there is an abundance of pace, we could be a very pacy team, personally I don’t look at us having a problem due to a lack of pace.

  • 37 colwell // Jul 9, 2016 at 3:51 PM

Ritchie is not in the slightest bit quick, he is a very tidy player, decent skill and good delivery but pace is not part of his game.

  • 38 Shadow_Shearer // Jul 9, 2016 at 4:07 PM

What’s the hold up with the hayden transfer been confirmed. He’s already passed a medical.

  • 39 Nufc-83 // Jul 9, 2016 at 4:35 PM

Jazzy comparing someone’s style of play is not the same as saying Perez is as good as Suarez which is why I said not on the same level. How can you say they don’t have a similar style of play is more to the point? Both work extremely hard hassling defenders and making runs off the ball. Both decent finishes and can score with head or feet from multiple distances. Both don’t use pure skill to get past players more drop of th shoulder twist and turn. Both not blessed with massive amounts of pace to burn. They are very similar tbh but again on completely different levels.

  • 40 nut meg // Jul 9, 2016 at 4:36 PM

Hanley is in Austria with Rovers. He’s not named in the team that will play in the first half so it’s wait and see if he plays in the 2nd half. It may be a pointer as to which way the deal is going.

  • 41 Nufc-83 // Jul 9, 2016 at 4:37 PM

Spoof I agree with collwell Richie does not have pace to burn at all so not sure how you figured that out. He is not slow but certainly not quick for a wide player.
