It’s Official – Rafa Wants To Keep Sissoko On Tyneside

2:43 pm, Monday, July 11th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 47 Comments

Moussa Sissoko was easily France’s best player in the semi-finals and final of the European Championship and the Newcastle midfielder didn’t play too bad in the quarter finals either.

So an interesting question has been how much would Moussa be worth in the transfer market,  if Paul Pogba is valued at £100M by Manchester United?

moussa sissoko france

Moussa Sissoko in action for France

Moussa outclassed Paul in the final two games and Rafa Benitez today has put a £35M price tag on the Newcastle midfielder’s head.

That’s probably cheap at the price, given his excellent performances against high level opposition during the Euros.

Moussa has gone straight on holiday after a very grueling summer which he has put in for France.

That follows a not so grueling Premier League season playing for Newcastle, when he went missing in games far too many times.

Rafa has let Moussa and his agents know quite clearly that the Newcastle manager is in control of the situation.

The bottom line is that if a club doesn’t come in with a bid of £35M for the 26 year-old before early September  – then he will remain a Newcastle player.

Since Moussa was responsible in some measure by his poor and less than committed performances in getting Newcastle relegated, Rafa is of the opinion he should now help the club get back into the Premier League at the first attempt – with some committed performances next season like he put in for France this summer.

It’s really as simple as that and nobody needs to feel sorry for Moussa Sissoko.

Comments welcome.

Rafa plays 4231 for the most part, always has, think some folk will fit into this perfectly others not so. I believe unless Mitro becomes more mobile and athletic he could be out the door. Likes his frontman to run in behind, whether that be Torres, Eto, baros, many others to play in his system, i think that man is Gayle. Leaves Mitro with no game.

If Cisse got in front of Mitro who is utter shite then hes in trouble unless he evolves as a player. Centre Midfield of Mbemba and Shelvey would be perfect for us, let Ritchie, Perez and hopefully Winaldum cause havoc in front.

Need a left back mind and Taggert would be a super signing.

  • 2 Our Toon // Jul 11, 2016 at 2:51 PM

Makes sense, I get that we have a lot of fans who want both sissoko and Gini out but common sense should also be used, when we get promoted we will need players with PL experience, with article 50 being triggered in 2017 it’ll make it tougher to get players from abroad for a cheaper price, also the pound will be a lot weaker making that market as not a viable one. Ashley won’t spend beyond his means even with Rafa in charge.

Put aside the petty childish grudges and wipe the slate clean for all under Rafa, if we become a yoyo club we will no longer be appealing as the gap between the prem and championship will only get bigger

  • 3 Our Toon // Jul 11, 2016 at 2:52 PM

    Check

You’d take our best CB and play him in midfield? Rafa went for experience last season hence picking cisse over mitro

  • 4 jayphoto // Jul 11, 2016 at 2:53 PM

Graziano Pelles contract in china is 40m euros over 2.5 years… He could actually buy Moussa himself, just get him to do general errands around the house….

  • 5 sparky55 // Jul 11, 2016 at 2:55 PM

what a load of bollox..there’s no way Sissoko is staying and all Rafa is doing is talking up the price because he knows his war chest going forward is only as big as what he gets for selling the 5 players who want to leave.

  • 6 jayphoto // Jul 11, 2016 at 2:55 PM

I think Mitro will play. But I think they will change his training to make him more mobile too. With gamez’s throw, (its like rory delaps) surely a bit of height up top will be important?
I can see gayle actually playing as the #10 or wide of a 3 and running beyond mitro

  • 7 check the toastie // Jul 11, 2016 at 2:55 PM

Sissoko is a ‘match of the day’ player generally, however wen he first turned up he looked dynamite, he would stand out in the chsmpionship whatever folk think of him, we have more chance of going straight back up if him and wini stay.

Rafa made him captain so must see something in him to match his tactics and the way he wants to play. In Rafa we trust.

  • 8 welshgeordie9 // Jul 11, 2016 at 2:55 PM

Well done to Benitez sticking to his guns with sissoko, why should players get away with leaving the club in the mess last season, players got the club relegated so it’s only fair they should get the club out of it, unless big bids come in.

So Loathsome’s the Tory Taliban eh?

Just as well she’s gone otherwise the softer right wing’d be tempted to call in the conqueror of all evil. Blair knows all about terrists an freem! Bustard that he is!

Would anyone use that money for berahino.

  • 11 bettyswallocks // Jul 11, 2016 at 3:01 PM

Jib…… Thanks for clearing that up. I couldn’t really imagine Ashley tweeting but then I thought Donald Trump’s at it non stop so why not.

  • 12 lesh // Jul 11, 2016 at 3:01 PM

    Sparky

Of course Rafa’s staking his ground around Sissoko – a MINIMUM of £35m might give the mercinary his move

  • 13 thebatman_1 // Jul 11, 2016 at 3:01 PM

Check the toastie, what on earth are you talking about putting Mbemba in midfield?!

  • 14 jayphoto // Jul 11, 2016 at 3:06 PM

@welsh – One of my main clients is a box holder at Stoke. Friend of Coates as they grew up together, reckons Berahino is in talks to go to stoke for a lot less than what Newcastle offered in January. Can’t see him dropping down a division regardless

  • 15 lesh // Jul 11, 2016 at 3:07 PM

    Our Toon

It’s Sissoko that’s after a move and he thinks he’s too good to play for a massive club that’s now got ambition and managed by no less than Rafa Benitez. He contributed to our relegation by not bothering his backside so any sense of decency would see him want to help in the Club’s rebuild. But, greed has no morals.

  • 16 welshgeordie9 // Jul 11, 2016 at 3:09 PM

Why is the club taking so long to make a third bid for Hanley, is it because Benitez is in Ireland and he’s probably got Charnley to do the bidding, if that’s the case that’s probably why the bids have been pretty poor.

  • 17 jayphoto // Jul 11, 2016 at 3:09 PM

I get the idea of putting mbemba in midfield, put with the options we have in midfield now, currently we have shelvey, colback, saivet, tiote, hayden and anita, not to mention Sissoko has said a 100 times he wants to play central midfield, aswell as wijnaldum and de jong both having played there in Holland and Gamez has also occasionally filled in for Malaga in CM. Whereas we aren’t so strong at centreback…

  • 18 nightfa11 // Jul 11, 2016 at 3:10 PM

35 mio?? ;D before euros wed settle for 12 ;D

whod pay 35 mio? cmon? cos of few good performances? maybe we should just send him on loan to arsenal for a year so everyone get what they want..

  • 19 welshgeordie9 // Jul 11, 2016 at 3:11 PM

The thing is Sissoko won’t get in to arsenals first team, Spurs or liverpools.

  • 20 Hail Wor Ashley // Jul 11, 2016 at 3:12 PM

Those that want to keep Gini and Sissoko make me sick.

  • 21 welshgeordie9 // Jul 11, 2016 at 3:14 PM

If any those teams want sissoko, then we should have one of their players in the deal.

I’d say 90% of the world’s population are “mercenaries” as you put it. If I offered you more money today to do the same job you’d take it. Unfortunately fans believe footballers should be different to the rest of humanity. If I was sissoko and had no affiliation to the club would I have reacted any different to him?

Look at it logically, he’s signed for us for more than he was getting and with the promise of using us as a stepping stone, gini was promised we’d compete for CL and Europe. Players are told one thing then they soon realise they’ve been lied to. We promoted 10th to 16th, no cup runs and no Europe as they lead to relegation. Wow yes sign me up for that club please do I can finish my career and say I played for a club that had ZERO AMBITION.

Things look like they might have changed we can’t say for certain it has for at least another 2 or 3 years.

  • 23 Wayayman // Jul 11, 2016 at 3:16 PM

Aye, but he would get into Juve if Pogba leaves…

  • 24 hibbitt // Jul 11, 2016 at 3:17 PM

not sure many want to keep these two they just don’t want to give them away !!

  • 25 Our Toon // Jul 11, 2016 at 3:17 PM

    Hail Wor Ashley

Is it worse than supporting Ashley by putting money in his pocket buying merchandise, match day tickets and season tickets?

  • 26 gorgonzola ( former Pecorino former to gorgonzola) // Jul 11, 2016 at 3:17 PM

    35 mill, yes please.

Thank you now sit and wait to see…Either way works for us. Prefer we sell him as he will sulk in the Championship……cannot afford that tbh.

Rather take the cash get a winger in or another fast CM.

  • 27 Our Toon // Jul 11, 2016 at 3:22 PM

I’d take 35m for any of our players. Promotion is worth 100m though

  • 28 hibbitt // Jul 11, 2016 at 3:22 PM

    Our Toon
were not going down that road again are we ?

  • 29 dazza // Jul 11, 2016 at 3:25 PM

I know we all love a good scapegoat but seriously you should stop all the sissoko hate. Yes he underperformed last yea. We might have had a few guys like that.

Ask yourself, when was the last time a Newcastle player was the best player in a euro final? Oh that’s right, never. He was so good he kept the best prem player of last year out of the side.

If he wasn’t a toon player we’d be dying to have him. I hope he stays and rips up the league. Goes on to be a top player in the prem.

  • 30 posada // Jul 11, 2016 at 3:29 PM

Mbemba in midfield ? Don’t see it.
His weakness is playing the ball out from the back. How exactly will he have the range of passing needed to do it in midfield.
Please lets not have the nonsense on here again about he’s an AM he’s a DM. Midfield is midfield is midfield. You have to be able to do both.
Think of those 2 lads at leicester last season. Now that’s midfield play.

  • 31 jayphoto // Jul 11, 2016 at 3:29 PM

ourtoon – if sissoko plays like he has done for 80% of his Newcastle career, he’s not going to enhance our promotion bid anyway whereas if rafa can spend 35m bringing in players that fit what he wants to do that might be far more beneficial.
The way we played last season, I’d hope Mbemba and Lascelles stay. Based on who I think will be a big player next season, I’d like Shelvey and mitrovic to stay. That aside I can’t honestly say I believe any of the players we have will be vital to our side based on their showing last season. None have proved irreplaceable. People are forgetting all this hype around sissokos form, hes not wearing a Newcastle shirt in these performances

  • 32 Our Toon // Jul 11, 2016 at 3:32 PM

    Hibbit

Nope we aren’t mate, the way I see it is that I support whoever is wearing our strip irrelevant of whether they want to be here or not.

For some reason our fans have issues with players wanting to leave for more ambitious clubs or to try to further their careers whether they are good enough or not, instead of concerning themselves with why players feel they can’t achieve here.

Doesn’t matter who you play for in England their is always a bigger club and you will have players that want to leave to move up the ladder. Suarez, De Gea, Bale, Ronaldo just a few names that all requested to leave, De Gea is the only one that didn’t get his wish yet but it will happen.

West ham today, apparently Carroll wants to go to Everton, Sakho has handed in a transfer request; Valencia wants to go to Italy, reeve Oxford is refusing to sign a new deal as he wants to leave. It’s all part of football, as I say 2017 will make it harder to attract players unless we agree to free movement between EU!! More at play here than just selling and replacing

  • 33 hibbitt // Jul 11, 2016 at 3:33 PM

not a hope dazza he wants away and thats whats driving this transfer talk / transfer
not wanted to be here for the last 2 years
he wont give 2 hoots what folks say on here

  • 34 Our Toon // Jul 11, 2016 at 3:38 PM

    Jay

Like i said I’ll take 35m for any of our players. I agree on sissoko with what you’ve said, however if he plays like has done under Rafa then we have a good player if not very good. Judge him under Rafa’s management rather than those awful managers prior to him who failed to get the best out of many of the squad.

Based on last season alone, not 1 player is worth keeping. Sissoko is hated because he wants a move, well if you want that move it’ll be on our terms, if no one can match those terms then you help get us out of this mess as you got us into it. Basic common sense method without pitchforks and baying for blood logic that a lot seem to have.

  • 35 Shadow_Shearer // Jul 11, 2016 at 3:45 PM

I’m sure rafa would take 30 million, possibly even 25. He knows sissoko price has done up, & he’s playing a very smart game. & rafa won’t be disappointed if nobody bids high enough.

  • 36 Munster Mag // Jul 11, 2016 at 3:48 PM

Check the toastie , I said the same re mitro yesterday. I think our striker to replace cisse could be a good one – but certainly athletic and powerful

  • 37 Jib // Jul 11, 2016 at 3:48 PM

    Dazza
Nobody is using Sissoko as a scapegoat .
    He’s just not very good
Did you see Nani shoulder charge him (fairly as it happens Clattenburg got it wrong) off of the ball ?
Nani 5’9″ and 8 stone wringing wet
    Sissoko 6’2″ and 13 stone.
Moussa went flying arse over tit
    Gimme a break
    He flatters to deceive.

  • 38 Jib // Jul 11, 2016 at 3:51 PM

    SSN
Sky sources understand that NUFC will only sell Sissoko for a fee of £35 million !

  • 39 Our Toon // Jul 11, 2016 at 4:04 PM

    Jib

Interesting you thought that was a shoulder barge, are talking about the incident when sissoko ran back 60 yards to win the ball back for his national team, if he hadn’t of they’d have had a good chance to score?

If you got off Google and played sports you’d realise weight doesn’t matter when running full speed, any knock would put you on your arse let alone someone barging you full speed coming from another direction. Again something you want find on Google mate!!

  • 40 Son of Geordie // Jul 11, 2016 at 4:06 PM

Could it be sissoko and gini deliberately went missing in games last season as a way of protesting against their incompetent managers? Seen it before with man city last season. the difference is mashley and Carr took no notice til it was too late.

  • 41 Jib // Jul 11, 2016 at 4:06 PM

    There you go
Rafa is known to talk to Fichajes.com

He’s quoted them €40 million for Sissok

    Sissoko even

Our toon have you got magical powers to know what agreement will be in place when we leave the EU? It is extremely likely that high skilled workers will be allowed in anyway especially footballers who earn a shed load of cash and put if back into the country via tax. In my opinion there will be no restrictions on footballers being signed possibly a little more paperwork that is all. The way your going on spouting that rubbish it’s like you are fully aware of the system being put in place.

  • 44 Jib // Jul 11, 2016 at 4:24 PM

Thanks for the advice Our Toon.
I played Rugby to county level so know quite a bit about shoulder charges.
I once spent a very interesting Saturday afternoon in the company of a Greek doctor in the General Hospital because a member of the Gustard family showed me exactly what damage a shoulder charge could do.

You have sneered at me 3 times now about Google.

I am so aux fait with the internet and it’s workings that it’s not funny.

Keep your sneering to a minimum bonny lad or you might just find your bank account details and pin numbers popping up.

I have no magical powers just a brain and an understand how the visa system works, those coming from the EU will need to have work visas much like those currently that don’t come from the EU, that’s if we decide to invoke article 50 and don’t agree to free movement. Visas are currently given based on

A player must have played for his country in at least 75% of its competitive A team matches of which he was available for selection, during the two years preceding the date of the application

The player’s country must be at or above 70th place in the official FIFA world rankings when averaged over the two years preceding the date of the application.

Young players can’t be loaned to teams in Europe with the hope that they become citizens of an EU country and then qualify to play in prem. Same applies for those coming from south America and Africa, they won’t be able to get into the UK under EU passports as they do now.

Nice one mate, threating someone with theft of banking details and pins….very intelligent!!

  • 47 Moonraker15 // Jul 11, 2016 at 7:04 PM

I was watching Sissoko in awe against Portugal making run after run but at the end of the day he didn’t score and had no assists. So more or less no change from playing for the Toon for 3 years. His final pass or shot is usually crap. If we get 35 mil for him it will be a better deal than selling Andy Carroll. Good riddance.
