Newcastle Have Yet To Spend Any Money This Summer

8:03 am, Monday, July 11th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 11 Comments

After Newcastle have brought in four players this summer, with hopefully the 5th signing Isaac Hayden announced today – the club still haven’t spent any real money,  because our net spend is exactly zero – assuming we sell Remy Cabella to Marseille for £7.5M – which is not yet official.

And with either Moussa Sissoko or Gini Wijnaldum or both likely to be being sold this summer for big money, Newcastle may not spend much at all as far as the net cost of the transfers are concerned this summer and even in January.

Rafa Benitez – in Ireland this week – no wonder he’s smiling

Here are the transfers so far this summer for Newcastle – with our best estimates of the transfer amounts – with a zero net spend.

Transfer Fees Out£85.5M
Net Spend-£31M

We may be out a little with some of the transfer fees, but the real point is the net spend is currently very low.

Matt Richie is £10M with an extra £2M based on incentives and Dwight Gayle is £9M with an extra £1M  in incentives – so those joint fees will increase by £3M if the two lads do well.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Seven players have left so far, with four new faces having been brought in. We have had a problem with strength in depth for quite a while now… Unless we bring in another 5-6 faces, we are still going to have this problem!

Enjoying all the manoeuvres in this pre season sale. But feeling a little uneasy about this Cabella supposed transfer. We were led to believe it was a 7.5 mil done deal which would go through as a formality on 1st July. We have enough on our plate getting shot of unwanted players without having Remi hanging round like the stench of stale garlic the morning after.

Ed, I think you’ve made up some of them figures just to make it balance 🙂
I’m not sure we would have got £5m for Cisse – articles I read were quoting £2.5m and also I think Gamez might have been more that £1.5m – alright he’s over 30 but then so is Cisse!

Most articles I’ve read state Cisse deal was £2.5m, and then there are articles I’ve read that say Jesus Gamez was free and others £5m. So it’s hard to say what our net spend is at the minute.

On top of that Gayle was £10m and Ritchie was £12m.

    Nope. We have spent.

    Ritchie was 12mil
    Cisse sold for 2.5mil

Benitez is certainly not the frugal type & he spends money. Which can be a good thing after so many years but he doesn’t have the ability to find a bargain in my opinion. At Liverpool he spent so much money on players that would become flops with high wages.

Anyway I’m quite sure we will spend a lot soon as some players clear out.

7 players have left of which 3 of them in Cabella Msrveaux and Obertan didnt play at all and two more in Taylor and Coloccini failed to complete half a season whilst Townsend only signed in January and Cisse was used more as a substitute.

We have signed 5 players in Gayle Ritchie Sels Gamez and Hayden whilst Armstrong Ameobi Vukic Thauvin and Bigi have returned from loan spells.

Rate them or not, Rafa has mire to select ftom at present

great job on estimations however most reports say 10mil gayle , 10 raising to 12 for ritchie , 7 for cabella and 2.5 for cisse so we have spent around 6mil ish so far an hayden should be signing todday for between 2.5 to 5mil depending on which report you believe !

ofc a wijnaldum or a sissoko sale would completely wipe the slate clean !

big improvement all round from last year imo.
just a sham rafa couldnt have worked his magic in the prem instead of in the chamionship but next year will do

Taylor Marvauex & Obertan left. so theres the savings on wages for them Taylor 40k per week tops hate to think he was on more, Marvauex & Obertan 25k. Colo was on abt 80k Cisse id say 50k Townsend 60k. Thats about 14m saved on wages a year add in the transfer fees n thats around 30 million mark.

Now subtract signings 27million & estimated wages 8million. Leaves a net spend of about 5 million pure estimations however.

Fair point. However I would not want to be reliant on either Vukic or Ameobi.

Let’s hope we can keep some of those were injured last season such as Hairdryer, Mbabu, and even Dummett injury free. That would for sure give us some more options in defence.

Its no longer the 80’s. You cant w2ork out spending by trqansfer money received v transfer money spent.

Players agents get a substantial amount from every transfer and wages as well as signing on fees run into millions of pounds. Players who are sold often receive loyalty bonuses too

You really need to get with the decade.
