This Is Very Good News On Newcastle’s Goalkeeper

9:55 pm, Wednesday, July 13th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 6 Comments

Newcastle goalkeeper Rob Elliot has been pictured training with his team-mates today in County Kildare, Ireland and given he suffered a serious ACL knee injury in late  March this year – that’s a huge surprise.

So maybe the reason Rob was included in the training camp was because he’s closer to fitness than Tim Krul is – even though Tim suffered his ACL injury last October?

But maybe not.

Rob Elliot had his best season ever at Newcastle last season when he was our Player of the Season and put in some terrific displays in the Newcastle goal.

Rob turned up for every single game last season, unlike some of our bigger stars and he was our most consistent player and our best player in the relegation season.

His performance at Bournemouth last year in that amazing 1-0 win was simply brilliant and the 30 year-old made five world-class saves – one from new boy Matt Ritchie – to keep that clean sheet and get Newcastle the 3 points.

The Chronicle is reporting that Rob was pictured doing work in the gym earlier this week as he continues his comeback from what was a serious injury.

However, it’s great that Rob was back on the training field today with his gloves on and catching those footballs again.

It’s not clear how long Rob will still be out but we’d be surprised if it’s not still at least a couple of months.

But nevertheless this is good news for Newcastle that Rob Elliot seems on his way back to fitness.

Comments welcome.

Guys, what would be a good site to stream the Championship games? HD even maybe?

Happy he’s back, whilst TK is a better reflex stopper, RE isnt bad at all, has better distribution, and dictates play in his box better. TK will have a hard job getting his starting berth back.

Apparently we’ve decided to move on from Hanley as we couldn’t agree a fee, shame if true as he looked decent and is still young.

On the previous post, I had assumed that Gayle was the Cisse replacement and that he was bought ahead of Cisse leaving I.e. The right way round. I don’t think we’ll be getting another high profile striker but would be very happy to be wrong!
