It Starts Again As Newcastle Player Picks Up Hamstring Injury

We have gone two weeks without any new injuries being picked up in the Newcastle squad as far as we know, but Siem de Jong has now picked up the first injury of the season.

It’s a hamstring injury – the most common injury that has hampered the Newcastle team for over ten years now.

Siem de Jong has also had a real bad time of it as far as injuries go in his short two years at Newcastle.

Siem de Jong – picked up hamstring injury

Siem was injured in September two years ago with a thigh problem and then about six months later when he was ready to play again he suffered a collapsed lung.

The lung was operated on immediately so the underlying problem was fixed and that shouldn’t happen again.

And then he had that bizarre eye injury when the 27 year-old almost lost an eye in a freak accident at Benton.

The report today is that the Dutch International was trying to keep the ball in play during a scrimmage and the hamstring went – although we don’t know how serious the injury is.

Turkish club Fenerbahce have said they are interested in the Dutchman this summer, but we don’t expect Rafa to sell the player and hopefully this season Siem can get his career back on track at Newcastle, but of course these injuries don’t help things.

One of the many areas of the club that Rafa Benitez wants big improvements in is the medical department and we just have to cut down on the number of injuries we keep picking up.

Each year in the Premier League we had more injuries than any other club.

Here’s how we did last year when we easily topped the Premier League Injury table for the umpteenth year in a row.

That has to stop and we’re sure Rafa will fix it and he has already brought in two medical people to add to the staff to handle injuries when they occur and also to prevent them occurring as much as is possible.

Of course players will always pick up injuries, but there will be an emphasis this season on trying to reduce the injuries and we’re sure Rafa will have various measurements he will be tracking to see how the club is doing.

Hopefully it will be a lot better than last season when injuries again decimated the squad.

Comments welcome.

Update – It turns out Kevin Mbabu has also picked up a slight thigh injury and both Kevin and Siem have returned to Benton for treatment and assessment of their injuries.

Joke that I was all for giving him a chance but if this is long term then ship him out as soon as we can.

Martoon if Jaanmatt stays then I see gamez as lb andcso I would say we need another fullback left or right to cover.

SDJ – has to be a liability with his injury track record. If he gets fit -will he break down yet again.
He cannot be a viable squad member if this is going to happen regularly. Club should consider calling it a day on him.

    Ed ‘it starts again…’?
De Jong sustaining an injury can be relied upon about as much as the sun coming up, and hardly indicates a new injury trend starting at the club.

    Hail (from last)

I think Rafa will get it sorted. He has said that NUFC WILL BE the fittest squad in the champs, and fitness surely must have been a big part of the injury woes. Fingers crossed

With some players their bodies simply cannot cope with the training required at this level.
Also, if you are struggling with the intensity of the training it must be a great temptation to develop a soft tissue injury.
This player probably couldn’t believe his luck when NUFC came calling with a big contract offer.
Part of the legacy we have been stuck with from poor decisions in the past.
We are making progress with the squad, but still need to manage 5 or 6 out.
    It won’t be easy.

SDJ is does not carry enough muscle to stand the rigors of football. I think he sees being a waif as the best way to get around on the pitch. Wrong. He needs to be more like Hulk, lose a 1/4 step and make up more than the difference in strength.

Give him scan every day and the full Sunday lunch to bulk him up.
    Change his boots.
    Mow the grass.

    Sorted
