Newcastle Defender Discusses Our Massive Signings

22 year-old Jamaal Lascelles has turned out to be an excellent buy for us from Nottingham Forest two years ago,  when we also bought goalkeeper Karl Darlow from the same club.

Jamaal spent the first season as a Newcastle player on loan at Forest but then joined the first team squad last summer and ended up playing 21 times for the Newcastle first team.

He was one of our best players under new manager Rafa Benitez.

Rafa is expected to make one more move for Blackburn Rovers’ center-back Grant Hanley and it looks like a bid of £6M will do the trick – according to various reports.

The deal has dragged on for over a week now so it would be good if we can finally sign the 24 year-old Scottish International, who as well as being a very good center-back also has great leadership skills.

But Lascelles is still thinking about some of the signings we have already made and he has talked about Matt Ritchie, who we signed from Bournemouth and Dwight Gayle – signed from Crystal Palace:

“They’re massive signings – Gayle and Ritchie.”  “I was so pleased when I found out they were signing for us. They show great passion and are going to work hard.”

“I’ve played against Ritchie a few times at Nottingham Forest and Newcastle and every time he’s hurt us.”

“I had a chat with him the other day and he was just saying how big the team could be with the players we’ve got. He said the tempo in training is really high.”

“For him to say that, an experienced player, shows the quality we’ve got. He’s another voice as well, which we need.”

“Gayle’s a massive signing. Some people have said we lacked that in-behind player, and I think he’ll bring that.”

“He always looks to play off the shoulder, and he’ll get goals. I’m really pleased with that.” “Hopefully, he’ll make a good partnership with whoever he’s up there with.”

Here are the signings we have made so far this summer with best estimates of the transfer fees.

At the moment we have spent a net of around £5.5M, but we’re almost certain that Rafa will sell more players this summer as well as bring more in.
