Newcastle Now Linked With Left-Back Target

6:29 pm, Friday, July 15th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 2 Comments

There are reports that Newcastle are interested in signing Walsall’s 19 year-old England U-19 International left-back, Rico Henry.

Rafa Benitez is keen to add not only to the first team squad this summer, but to pick up some very promising youngsters for Peter Beardsley’s Development squad.

Those younger players can then be developed in the Newcastle U-21 side and out on loan at other clubs to eventually become first team players of the future on Tyneside.

Rico Henry – Walsall left-back

The 19 year-old was born in Birmingham so he is a local boy who joined Walsall at age 11 and he made his first senior appearance for the club shortly after his 16th birthday in July 2013 in a preseason friendly against Leeds United.

Rico made his full debut for the club in December 2014 as an 18 year-old in the Football League Trophy area semi-finals, as Walsall beat Tranmere on penalties after a 2–2 draw.

Henry started last season as a regular in the Walsall team and he has so far made 50 appearances with 3 goals for the first team.

Rico is now attracting some top clubs who include Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City and even Sunderland – in addition to the Magpies.

Henry stands 5ft 9ins tall and in this article in January in the Mail he was compared to Arsenal great Kenny Sansom – since he has considerable speed.

Rico has a great left foot and looks to be one for the future, so we are hoping Newcastle can sign this lad and add more talent to our young Development squad.

He has played twice for the England U-19 side but did not make the squad for the current European U-19 tournament taking place in Germany,

In that tournament Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman is England’s number one choice between the sticks and England have won both their games in Group B.

Rico looks like a very good prospect.

Comments welcome.

Chelsea agree a fee of £32 million for Leicester midfielder N’GOLO KANTE.

One good season and he’s worth that, don’t think so somehow.

Leeds are apparently very close to signing this kid. If he’s this highly rated by all those clubs mentioned we should try our best to snap him up ASAP.
