The Newcastle players today showed they have not been messing around in their training camp in Dublin this week and put on a great show at Park this afternoon and hammered the home side 6-0.
And the Newcastle players all wore black arm bands in honor of the two year anniversary when Newcastle fans John Alder and Liam Sweeney lost their lives supporting Newcastle United.
Their passenger jet was shot down over Ukraine on Thursday July 17th, 2014 by rebels, as they were traveling to support the team in New Zealand.
A bit of class shown by Newcastle United Football club today.
And in the game today we had six different goalscorers as the scoring was as follows:
15 mins – Matt Ritchie
30 minutes – Aleksandar Mitrovic – penalty
52 minutes – Dwight Gayle
55 minutes – Florian Thauvin
59 minutes – Rolando Aarons
75 minutes – Gini Wijnaldum
The worrying news was that as Rolando scored his great goal he picked up a knock and had to be replaced and we don’t know how bad the injury is, but that’s the third one in two days after both Siem de Jong and Kevin Mbabu were injured yesterday.
But an update – it seems that it was just cramp for Rolando so that’s good.
The goals from Matt Ritchie and Dwight Gayle were the best of the bunch.
This was just a friendly and we cannot get too carried away with the result but Newcastle put on an excellent display with many players putting in good displays according to the play-by-play on the Newcastle twitter account and in the Chronicle’s accounts of the game.
And Rafa had many players get a run-out this afternoon as he made changes throughout the second half.
