Liverpool Deal For Wijnaldum Reported Very Close

1:21 pm, Monday, July 18th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 35 Comments

There are various reports, including one in the Shields Gazette, that things seem to be moving quickly with the potential move of Gini Wijnaldum to Liverpool.

Newcastle value Gini at around £27M and if Liverpool are willing to come close to that figure, it could explain the many reports that are emerging coming out reporting he could soon be traveling to Liverpool for his medical and to finalize the move.

Gini Wijnaldum – could be on his way to Liverpool

Maybe Rafa can make a deal whereby we get a cash plus players deal and take one or two of Liverpool’s promising players – maybe even the Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva – who Rafa signed when he was the Liverpool manager back in 2007.

But that may be difficult to do for some of the younger players with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp probably requesting buy-back clauses – which would be no good for Newcastle.

It seems that Wijnaldum would welcome a move to the Reds, but he would have a fight on his hands for a starting place if he did make the move.

But if he is to move it’s best that it be done early in the summer, so Rafa Benitez can ensure we have adequate replacements brought in.

Tottenham ands Everton are also interested in Wijnaldum so hopefully the three clubs can get into a bidding war for the 25 year-old Dutch International.

That would be very good …. for Newcastle.

Rafa has always said its possible some players will be sold this summer if the club receives huge offers for them, but financially Newcastle don’t need to sell any players this summer.

Comments welcome – but please respect the views of others and try to be mature with the comments – thanks.

Smells like crap ta me. Where’s he gonna play ?

  • 6 Tsunki // Jul 18, 2016 at 1:28 PM

Another player who thinks he’s too good to adapt and just contribute. When he thought the game was going past him, he let it instead of trying to get involved in any capacity needed. When he actually played, he created things and scored goals almost at will. If he didn’t think he was being played in the right way you could swear he’d gone home.

Maybe a ploy to get Spurs to up their offer? Yep i’m going with that theory.

According to the Sunderland Echo headline Wini is on his way to Liverpool ahead of his proposed move.

  • 11 WWSBRD // Jul 18, 2016 at 1:31 PM

Hope its true personally and we get a stack of money for him

  • 12 Tsunki // Jul 18, 2016 at 1:34 PM

Is he going to sit in his car outside an field waiting for the caretaker to turn up with the keys and open up? 😀

  • 13 Belfast // Jul 18, 2016 at 1:35 PM

25 million ? I’d be happy enough with that.

Move Sissoko on next and reinvest it all.

  • 14 firebug666 // Jul 18, 2016 at 1:38 PM

I think we will lose Wini, Sissoko, Janmaat and Krul.

Krul and Janmaat have already been replaced, so I would expect more transfer activity in the coming weeks to replace the other two.

  • 15 hibbitt // Jul 18, 2016 at 1:40 PM

if we get £25m for wijnaldum
it makes £35m look even more possible for sissoko
    happy days

  • 16 expatmag // Jul 18, 2016 at 1:41 PM

    Thauvin and Tiote too

  • 17 WWSBRD // Jul 18, 2016 at 1:42 PM

If he is on his way then Id expect a replacement signed up pretty quickly along with a CB, Rafa doesnt mess about

  • 18 Tsunki // Jul 18, 2016 at 1:43 PM

Ironically all this talk about Wijnaldum and sissoko being flogged for loads of dosh starts to make Messrs Carr and Charnleys purchasing model make sense. 🙂 oh dear ha ha.

  • 19 Mister Tuff // Jul 18, 2016 at 1:43 PM

If he does not want to be here – get him sold.
Same for Sissoko. And re- invest the money in better players.
It will be a long season – no place for whingers/doubters.

  • 20 expatmag // Jul 18, 2016 at 1:43 PM

    Add in 7m for Krul
    10 million for Janmaat
    10 million for Thauvin
    5 millon for Tiote

A very nice nest egg to rei nvest properly

  • 21 Tsunki // Jul 18, 2016 at 1:44 PM

In Carr we… he he he…

  • 22 goommy // Jul 18, 2016 at 1:44 PM

27M for Gini? Hey! prepare the chopper now!!

Hope this is real. If we can get 27M from Gini and 30M+ for Sissoko it would be nice transfer market for us 😀

  • 23 nightfa11 // Jul 18, 2016 at 1:45 PM

i think 25 mio fee is low.. we spent 15 to bring him here + signing on fee, agents, years salary..its closer to 20 mio..5 mio profit on a player who was PL unproven a year ago..yet our best scorer.. but im glad we’re selling players who dont want to be here..

  • 24 firebug666 // Jul 18, 2016 at 1:45 PM

I’m not so sure Thauvin will be leaving marra, but Tiote may leave but we have just brought in another DM too so no so worried. As WWSBRD just said @17 Rafa doesn’t mess about so replacements will have already been earmarked to come in.

  • 25 martoon // Jul 18, 2016 at 1:45 PM

So how does the Sunderland Echo know this yet our esteemed local reporters Mr Ryder & Mr Douglas do not?

  • 26 firebug666 // Jul 18, 2016 at 1:48 PM

Obviously on a coffee break marra.

  • 27 Bobbybee // Jul 18, 2016 at 1:53 PM

So i’m a psychopath now am i jail? And you’re a kiddy fiddler. Full blown paedo i hear. And i have EXACTLY the same evidence to back up my claim as you have yours.

  • 28 firebug666 // Jul 18, 2016 at 1:56 PM

Bit strong that marra, flinging that sort of mud about some will stick, regardless of your differences that is a step too far.

  • 29 dazza // Jul 18, 2016 at 2:29 PM

Can’t believe how many want us to sell our best players.

25M doesn’t score us any goals.

15M plus Ojo or Markovic maybe.

I wouldn’t sell Wijanaldum. Not even for 30m. Because who will you replace him with? We will never be able to attract a player of his calibre while we’re in this league. We need goals and he scores them from midfield. I would sell Sissoko as he is neither consistent nor a goalscorer.

  • 32 blacksmith // Jul 18, 2016 at 4:29 PM

Liverpool is a good move for Gini and if they can meet our valuation then it’s a good move for us. Gini was far and away our best outfield player last season despite going missing in away games. It was his first season. Thauvin did a runner. Others like Sissoko, who have been in the league longer, should have picked up the slack.

I don’t quite understand people criticizing Wijnaldum. He was class all the way through. It’s perfectly understandable that he would now want to leave. I for one wish him well. I see him doing well at Liverpool.

  • 33 lochinvar // Jul 18, 2016 at 4:43 PM

Well if this happens Everton and Koeman are going to be less than happy.
Ok so Liverpool have some clout but look what happened to Enrique….
If Gini goes for around £25m then that has to be a good deal for all concerned considering…

  • 34 dalton7675 // Jul 18, 2016 at 5:40 PM

I’d take 20 for him still a profit

  • 35 Moonraker15 // Jul 18, 2016 at 6:46 PM

Gini will disappear within the Liverpool squad and probably be used as a squad player. Unfortunately, he doesn’t impose himself on a game and becomes anonymous. Take 20 mil and get our squad invincible. Same with Sissoko; he’ll be running down blind alleys. I’m wondering if anyone will pay that money for him! If we fans know his faults then I’m sure the club scouts do! We could have him next season and in the Championship he will be a threat!
