Newcastle Striker – The Next Few Games Are Vital

Striker Dwight Gayle was signed from Crystal Palace for around £10M this summer and he came on in the second half against Bohemian at Dalymount Park on Saturday and scored a very good goal 7 minutes later, after he had hit the post 3 minutes earlier.

It was Newcastle’s first preseason friendly and it was a good display from the lads with Rafa Benitez getting most of the squad on for a run-out.

Newcastle won the game 6-0 and now have a game basically every three of four days for the next couple of weeks before we kick off the Championship season at Craven Cottage on Friday, 5th August.

Gayle has talked about the game:

“It was nice. It was fantastic support from the 400 fans that traveled.” “You just realise how big a club it is. It was great to get my first goal and a run out.”

“Jamaal hooked it back in, and luckily when I hooked it,  it just dropped underneath the bar and went in.” “It was nice to get an early goal.”

“The next few games are going to be vital for me to get my confidence for the beginning of the season.” “The main thing is just to get my fitness and to get the togetherness and tactical work for the boys to push on.”

“I know what I’ve got to do this season,”  “I’m going to take each game as it goes.” “I set these targets myself as you need to push yourself.”

“He’s (Rafa’s) putting it into us what he wants to do every training session.”

“Each week that goes by, we get better at it.”  “We’re going to be there or thereabouts when the season starts in a few weeks.”

Newcastle have found it difficult to score goals over the last couple of seasons so it was good to see the lads create so many chances and put the ball in the back of the net with six different players scoring on Saturday.

Next up is a game at the Keepmoat Stadium on Wednesday night.

Little and Large up front. We just need Mitrovic to be more aware and less selfish for Gayle to cash in.

As I said mate, We all witnessed the drivel served up last term. But Gini is still one of our top players.
I appreciate we are in the championship, But if we harbour intentions to go straight back up then surely we must do all we can to keep our best players.
Gini at a top club will be an awesome prospect, and let’s not forget he was played all over the park last season and never predominantly in one position to make his own
