Newcastle Ready To Make Move For Left-Back

Newcastle were first linked with 19 year-old Walsall left-back Rico Henry in January of this year and there’s news today in the local press that Newcastle are now seriously considering making a bid for the twice capped and talented England U-19 International.

The 19 year-old was born in Birmingham and joined local club Walsall at age 11 and he made his first senior appearance for the club shortly after his 16th birthday in July 2013 – in a preseason friendly against Leeds United.

Rico Henry – 19 year-old Walsall left-back

Rico made his full debut for the club in December 2014 as an 18 year-old in the Football League Trophy area semi-finals, as Walsall beat Tranmere on penalties after a 2–2 draw.

Henry started last season as a regular in the Walsall first team and he has so far made 50 appearances with 3 goals for the first team.

But Rico is now attracting some top clubs because of his excellent form and they include Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham and Leicester and if Newcastle sign the lad he would be a very good acquisition and presumably one for the future.

But Benitez will be looking to sign good young players now who can then develop in the next couple of years and be fighting for a place in the first team.

With Rafa in charge and unifying the coaching at all levels of the club that is now can become a successful strategy.

Henry stands 5ft 9ins tall and because of his playing style and speed he has been compared to Arsenal great Kenny Sansom.

While we have a lot of cover at right back we don’t have that much at left back with Paul Dummett and Sadio Haidara being the two natural left footed left back at the club but new signing Jesus Gamez can also play there.

Comments welcome.

    Gamez and Mbabu RB
    Dummett and this guy LB
Dont think we can rely on Haidara to play 20 games a season so until he does he is just a bonus when fit.

We just can’t have people like Sissoko at the club no matter what their ability is. He’s poison and could potentially ruin the morale of the dressing room. We need a mentally strong and determined group of players filled with characters, experience, grafters and leaders, not players who just don’t want to be here. The same goes for Wijnaldum.

Get around £40-50million for both and that will give us funds to get a decent number 10, a winger, left back and centre back

I think two Dutchmen could be out of the club fairly soon.
Sources round Liverpool are saying it’s the young right-back John Flanagan plus cash for Wijnaldum which could mean Daryl Janmaat could be gone as well.

    Laurent Robert the Legend.
Pleased to see another Toon supporter from far afield.
Whilst I cannot help out with specifics -(your post very general) I can point out the following.
Newcastle has a sizeable population of Indians – (has Sikh and Hindu Temples quite near the ground)
Also there are a lot of students from India who attend Newcastle Uni and Northumbria Uni.

Newcastle City Centre is compact with the ground, railway station, Unis’ being in the centre. No taxis needed.
Airport about 5 -6 miles away – flights include from Heathrow/Gatwick as well as other EU hubs – Paris/Amsterdam.

Tickets etc – why not write to Lee Marshall at the club – PR Guy (email on official site) explain your plans and see what he can offer.

I presume you are a younger traveller – I note there is a Newcastle South Asian Society on Facebook – look like bloody students – you might be able to make some enquiries there.

Hope this can start you off – let us know how you progress.
December in Newcastle – warm clothing essential.

Comment #9 saying part exchange incorrect. If we had of appointed Stuart Pearce or George Burley I would be very worried with these departures. I have full belief that Rafa anticipated these moves and is planning accordingly.

The Italian media are saying Filip Helander the 6’4″ Swedish CB is definitely leaving Hellas Verona and NUFC are favourites.
I think the delay in anouncing him is caused by the Swedish national side wanting him for the Rio Olympics starting Friday 5th August with the Championship kicking off the following day .
