Newcastle Reported Interested In Croatian Striker

Well it’s a strange move if Newcastle are indeed interested in this striker, but there’s news in German publication Bild today that we are interested in 36 year-old Croatian striker Ivica Olic, who is way past his best.

Olic played for Hamburg last season and scored only 2 goals in 25 appearances and we don’t know why we would be interested in this 36 year-old.

Aston Villa have also been reported having an interest in the 104 times capped Croatian striker (20 goals), who has played for Hamburg, Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga over the last nine years.

German newspaper Bild are reporting today that both Newcastle and Aston Villa are interested in signing the veteran striker.

Olic had a one year deal with Hamburg last season and that has not been extended after he scored only a couple of goals in 25 appearances and so he is a free agent with some reports that he has retired from football.

In his 20 year career, which started at Croatian club Marsonia in 1996, Olic has scored 228 goals in 582 total appearances.

If the Bild report has any truth to it at all, we would presumably sign him for one year as a back-up striker, although he can also play out on the wing.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Sky reckon Spurs showing interest in Gini – a bidding war with Liverpool then.
    Ashley smiling again then.

Armstrong has been back in training a fortnight now – plenty of time in the come days/weeks to allow Benitez to give him the once over.
Still think he should go back out on loan until January -then assess again.

Note – there are new loan rules -no emergency loans/only arranged in windows/no immediate recalls.

Laurent Robert the Legend … the wonderful Mr Tuff’s suggestion to contact the club’s PR boss is a good one (as are all of the splendid Tuff’s posts).  At the very least you’ll get a stadium PA announcement; you may get a free ticket; you might get some ‘official’ hospitality (especially now that there appears to be a move to regard fans as an asset to the club).

You don’t mention in your post at what ‘level’ your needs are;  are you a First Class traveller needing 5 Star accommodation, or a back-packer looking for a campsite/hostel?

Post a bit more detail about your itinerary and I’m sure you’ll get plenty of good advice.

    Allardyce interviewed first, then Bruce?

The FA must be keeping the best until last – Pardew!

Alarmingly, if the FA only interview those three, then there is only one winner. Many here will not be too pleased about it either 😮

Can’t believe we are selling our best players. After all of this ‘we don’t need to sell’ talk we go and sell anyone of any value.

What are the odds on us not get promoted? Could be seeing another QPR in the making here. Shortsighted doesn’t even begin to describe the situation.

According to reports Man U’s Varela, Wilson and Blackett are all surplus to requirements.

    Worth a look?

The money from Gini buys us a championship quality CB, FB and striker. Hanley, Henry, and McCormack. Wise investments? I think not.

Gini would score 25 goals next season and guarantee promotion. Tell the scouse to scout one of their own.

Pointless keeping unhappy players especially when there cannot be any promotion guarsntees.

The 3 lads from Man Utd would be great additions but I cant see them all being alowed to leave just yet.

Personally I have always found Mr Tuff wonderful and splendid.
At one moment it actually crossed my mind that the Indian gentleman may be one of his multiples in an effort to make him look erudite and worldly wise – but nobody could be that desperate and sad.
You see how this blog can effect one’s thinking ?

Players who have attitude problem should leave.
    Because it effects the squad
Sissoko was not the best player last season and simply cannot pass the ball correctly,he should leave

Wini doesn’t have an attitude problem but I think he is champions league player than championship…so he should also move on .

I would imagine any player that suffers relegation would be unhappy mate.Does that mean we transfer the whole squad ??
I don’t recall him mouthing off like Moussa and he’s under a big contract. We have hardly spent any of the transfer kitty so why sell one our better players.
I agree we need to get out of the championship first, But is selling the best players out of the 1st team going to help that.

    @13, Dazza,

What makes you so sure Gini would turn up in the Chanpionship and score 25?!! He didnt get amongst the hussle in the EPL, I could see him taking a few big hits and shying away in this league. I’d love him to stay…I actually said he’d be our next captain! But £25mil is decent business for the club and morale of the changing room if he doesnt want to be here.

So want-away Sissoko will tell every interviewer how much he wants to leave Newcastle and even call out to certain clubs that he wants to join but he won’t actually hand in a formal transfer request. Sure he wants the move but he and his agents want his share of the transfer fee even more.

We will have atleast 50m next season to buy new players and with Rafa ,better players than wini and sissoko would come to nufc without a doubt.

You can take Matt Richie as an example

I understand your point mate, But what does 50 mill buy you now.
Even Stoke are buying players for 20 odd mill.
This Rafa revolution we all keep on about doesn’t really have any headway at the moment.
Time will tell I suppose buddy

Wow – extreme and perverse mental workings here – probably not the blog having an input -probably your own thought before you even appeared on here.
No multiples associated with me – stand or fall by what I say.
Not interested in blog fans/being blog boss.

For your info I’ve posted before offering a welcome again I believe from a supporter in India who was coming to Newcastle.

Whereas I am the good Samaritan and would assist a fellow at the roadside – I suspect you and a couple more on here would initially pose as good Samaritans then go through the blokes pockets and nick his bag leaving the poor fellow more distraught.

From much earlier, I know we finished fifteenth that year but the aim was tenth, reach for the stars…..
It would be better to have a full squad of players suited to the Championship than to wait a year before buying PL quality, if we try and take shortcuts we might never get there.
