There is news today that Liverpool may offer Newcastle a player or players on loan for the coming season, as part of the overall deal to sign Gini Wijnaldum for around £25M.
But what good would a loan player be to Newcastle this season, unless he was a top player who we would play as a starter, simply because he would be better than what we have.
Rafa Benitez – do loan players make sense for him next season?
But to take a young Liverpool player on loan or a mediocre player on loan seems to make no sense.
What good would it be to Newcastle for Rafa to start bringing the best out of a young Liverpool player over the season when we have youngsters of our own to develop?
Players like Rolando Aarons, Isaac Hayden. Jamie Sterry and Adam Armstrong to name but a few , who need playing time to develop.
There was speculation when Rafa signed Isaac Hayden from Arsenal, whether it would be a permanent deal or a loan deal like he had completed at Hull City last season.
But Rafa was smart and brought the 21 year-old in permanently for £2.5M.
So we would be very surprised if we get a loan player from Liverpool as part of the deal for Gini, unless it’s somebody very experienced whom Rafa would use a lot and we would have an option to buy in the loan contract.
Somebody like holding midfielder Lucas Leiva may be one of the few who would make sense to come on loan, but we’d still rather have Lucas come in on a permanent basis.
What do you think?

Comment #2Don’t know Alex Pritchard and Ryan Mason well but looks better alternatives than the rest to replace Wijnaldum and Sissoko. The midfield needs strengthening with someone creative than any position. And those two may be worth having.
Don’t think the likes of Lucas Leva are the solution. The likes him lost his best for a while now.

Comment #3Liverpool paid 25 million for gini and thats what they paid us?
Really?
So the agent got nowt?
if he works at the 2013 average of 20% he will have lost 5 million.
If we received 25 million then its cost them at least 30 million.
By the same token the 80 million ed says we spent is probably closer to 100 million if you add agent fees on top of transfer.
We are quite a way from recouping 100 million

Comment #6I do not want us to loan players, the thought of us allowing other clubs players making mistakes in our team so they learn and develop and then go back to their parent club appalls me, surely even though we are not PL we are still bigger and better than that, piddly little clubs like Sunderland do that regularly but surely we are bigger and better than them.

Comment #8Would rather not loan players in an ideal world but tbf it worked quite well last time we went down so I cant gripe too much
If we could get an agreed fee that would be perfect
I actually think Lucas would be a real dominant force in the Championship if we could keep him fit but that seems to be his biggest issue recently at Liverpool
If the Madrid deal touted for Sissoko is correct Id push for loan moves for both Odengaard and Asensio (if we could wrangle an agreed fee that’d be out standing)

Comment #9Btw to the numpty who called me a weirdo and said my name is ironic.
Hoy numpty,
Football is fun, transfers are fun.
Operating under a false premise is irritating not fun.
Its a false premise to say that if a player costs the buying club 25 million that the receiving club gets 25 million.
This gives you ridiculous ideas about how much a club has left to spend.
That causes endless posts whingeing about how money hasnt been spent (non existent money) and thats not fun.
It causes post after post by people doing nowt but moan about the club, ashley and the manager.
All caused by a false premise.
None of it fun.

Comment #10What is needed for NUFC is an attacking midfielder who will know how to use his wingers. I’d buy a few rather than develop someone else’s rising star.

Nufc is no different to any other club when buying and selling players! Except we are one of the few that deal mainly cash up front and that is a huge advantage if you can do it. One thing’s for sure though is Wijnaldum ain’t worth 25 million whether we have to pay a sell on or not it’s a great deal for us.
