Rafa Benitez Speaks Out About Wijnaldum Leaving Newcastle

In his press conference after today’s 4-0 win at KSC Lokeren,  Rafa Benitez spoke about Gini Wijnaldum leaving the club yesterday.

Rafa has always said that if a deal was good for the club this summer then Newcastle would do it – and so it happened with Gini, with Newcastle getting a massive £25M in cool cash up front from Liverpool for the Dutch international midfielder.

Rafa was asked about Gini in his press conference after the game today:

“I said before that we didn’t need to sell, just if we wanted to sell.” “In this case, we have lost a very good player.”

“But I think that was the best decision for him and for us.”

“We want to be sure that the players here really focus and understand what it means to be promoted for the club, the fans, the city.”

“Gini was a good player, and we allowed him to go to a Premier League club.”

“For us, the reality was good, because it was a good transfer, but also we keep a good team at the same time.”

It’s possible Newcastle will do more deals with players leaving the club and one of those players will be Moussa Sissoko, who has wanted to leave Newcastle for a bigger club for a few years now.

Rafa has some of the youngsters playing well in preseason and they include Ayoze Perez who scored two good goals today and Rolando Aarons who also again looked good.

20 year-old local lad Jamie Sterry  got another start at right-back and he’s another one that Rafa seems to be bringing through to the first team.

New signing Grant Hanley wasn’t in the squad today and Matt Ritchie had a slight groin problem and was not risked.

It was a good win and a good display from the lads – just what we all wanted to see – and next up is a long trip to Southend United on Tuesday night.

Its a recurring theme, spectacular FB who flatters to deceive, lets be honest here, defensively we have been the worst for how long, yet player of the season has been either a keeper or a defender for how long, ignorance is bliss my friend but take a look, how can defensive players be our player of the season when we are possibly the worst defence in PL history.

With Rafa in charge we will absolutely walk the Championship ! Once he’s got his squad complete we will be almost unbeatable at this level! The confidence he gives out is amazing!
