We were supposed to have an end of season Fans Forum before now, but it has never happened.
The Fans’ Forum started having four meetings a year and then it was reduced the three meetings a year, and we have had three meetings in the last year.
One was last June when then new head coach Steve McClaren was in attendance and then we had one on 30th October and then the last one was on February 22nd.
Lee Charnley – hasn’t held an end of season Fans Forum
That was after the squad had just come back from their winter holiday in southern Spain for a full week, after being hammered 5-1 at Chelsea and Steve McClaren had told everybody that things would be fixed and we would come back strongly.
Newcastle then lost the next game 1-0 at Stoke City after going all out for a draw from the first whistle.
That was followed by being hammered 3-1 at home to Bournemouth and Steve McClaren was history.
During that last meeting Lee Charnley had said there was just no way we would be relegated and we had just spent £29M in the January transfer window on four new players.
It’s interesting that Lee Charnley has left the Fans Forum meetings hanging and up in the air; he needs to either have these meetings or scrap them.
We still think they can be beneficial, but the attitude from the club has to change to being more open and forthcoming – and much less defensive.
Having Rafa Benitez at each meeting would certainly make these Fan Forum meetings really worthwhile.
But it’s an indication of a poorly run organization when nothing is said about meetings that should have already taken place.
Lee Charnley needs to fix this and make some announcement on what the future of the Fans Forum will be.
It will be interesting to know what Rafa thinks about these meetings.
