There was news tonight that Cheick Tiote will likely be on his way out of Newcastle and be moving to join Al Jazira in the UAE Pro League; the 30 year-old is reported to be negotiating £80K/week wages on a three year deal.
Rafa was interviewed after the 2-0 friendly win at Southend United and he said Newcastle were doing some things behind the scenes and hinted we were close on a few deals.
Rafa Benitez – we are close
After Newcastle’s good performance in the second half last night at Southend, when we scored two good goals through Anita and Gouffran, Rafa said this on the situation with Tiote:
“We have some players that are in the market because other clubs are asking for them, but we have to wait and see if we receive the right offers for the right players.”
“Then we will move forward. The main thing for me is to be sure we can bring in the players we need to improve the squad.” “We were moving quickly at the beginning.”
“After Premier League teams started spending some money, people were thinking that the prices would be higher and then it’s more difficult.”
“But still we have some things behind the scenes and we are close.”
There are likely to be other players moving out of Newcastle and one who almost certainly will leave for big money is Moussa Sissoko.
But there will also be other players like Tiote who will be moved out and some will be like Cheick- high wage earners who will be leaving.
One of those players is likely to be goalkeeper Tim Krul, who has been at Newcastle for 11 years now.
Tim is likely to join fellow Dutchman Ronald Koeman at Everton and be the long term replacement for Tim Howard.
Some fringe players like Emanuel Riviere and Yoan Gouffran, even though he scored tonight – could also be moved out.
And players who haven’t made it at Newcastle for the last couple of years like Sammy Ameobi, Haris Vuckic and Gael Bigirimana seem to have no future at Newcastle.
We have been linked with a number of players who may be arriving at Newcastle and tonight we were linked tonight with Wolves defensive midfielder Conor Coady.
What do you think?
