Benitez – We’re Doing Things Behind The Scenes – We Are Close

11:11 pm, Tuesday, July 26th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 5 Comments

There was news tonight that Cheick Tiote will likely be on his way out of Newcastle and be moving to join Al Jazira in the UAE Pro League; the 30 year-old is reported to be negotiating £80K/week wages on a three year deal.

Rafa was interviewed after the 2-0 friendly win at Southend United and he said Newcastle were doing some things behind the scenes and hinted we were close on a few deals.

Rafa Benitez – we are close

After Newcastle’s good performance in the second half last night at Southend, when we scored two good goals through Anita and Gouffran, Rafa said this on the situation with Tiote:

“We have some players that are in the market because other clubs are asking for them, but we have to wait and see if we receive the right offers for the right players.”

“Then we will move forward. The main thing for me is to be sure we can bring in the players we need to improve the squad.”  “We were moving quickly at the beginning.”

“After Premier League teams started spending some money, people were thinking that the prices would be higher and then it’s more difficult.”

“But still we have some things behind the scenes and we are close.”

There are likely to be other players moving out of Newcastle and one who almost certainly will leave for big money is Moussa Sissoko.

But there will also be other players like Tiote who will be moved out and some will be like Cheick- high wage earners who will be leaving.

One of those players is likely to be goalkeeper Tim Krul, who has been at Newcastle for 11 years now.

Tim is likely to join fellow Dutchman Ronald Koeman at Everton and be the long term replacement for Tim Howard.

Some fringe players like Emanuel Riviere and Yoan Gouffran, even though he scored tonight – could also be moved out.

And players who haven’t made it at Newcastle for the last couple of years like Sammy Ameobi, Haris Vuckic and Gael Bigirimana seem to have no future at Newcastle.

We have been linked with  a number of players who may be arriving at Newcastle and tonight we were linked tonight with Wolves defensive midfielder Conor Coady.

What do you think?

Jimmy, (from previous) given Sissoko’s performances last season, together with his perpetual “I’m too good for this league, come and get me” speaches, sell him, take the £35 million or whatever it is and buy FOUR players that can seriously improve the side for this season.

If they all perform, they will all have resale value in this division, if they cant cut it in the Prem. It’s a no brainer mate – who needs the disruption he will bring with him??

I know we are interested in Connor Coady as what looks to be a replacement for Tiote, but what about going back in for Mehdi Abeid or Olivier Kemen…

Abeid did not get much game time but he impressed when given the chance… I remember he bossed Toure in the Man City Cup Game and impressed at Liverpool.. Kemen was always highly rated in the U21s and people were comparing him to Cheick Tiote and then we let him go for some reason or another….. but im sure if Rafa coaches him he could be great

Im not sure if Bigi can still make it in to the first team, he is still young but has lost his way since that mystery illness

Yeah, it depends on how focussed and committed or otherwise he is, set against the money offered. But as I said previously, I think Rafa has the levers and tools to be very persuasive. I suppose Widjnaldum was sold because of concerns over focus, but I think Sissoko is valued more highly and so there’s more than likely far more to play out in this one than many believe. To be honest, with the squad as it is, I’d prefer one Sissoko, to 4 players who likely won’t step up with any great effect, and think Benitez may easily think similarly.

From what I hear from Wolves fans ,we should stay well clear of Connor Cody
They want rid of him ASAP

Sissoko. Is thick. Ranting on about how good he thinks he is and wittering on like a tart to any journalist who would listen about how he wants away. Idiot. Imagine you were looking for another job, wouldn’t you keep quiet until you had been offered another?
I reckon he is alienating potential employers and he could be stuck here. How embarrassing that would be for the blot.
