Darlow And Dummett Start – Hanley On Bench

Southend_United.svgnufc emblem

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez has just announced the team for the penultimate friendly at Southend United in this summer’s pre-season.

Newcastle (4-2-3-1): Karl Darlow; Daryl Janmaat, Chancel Mbemba, Jamaal Lascelles (c), Paul Dummett; Vurnon Anita, Isaac Hayden; Rolando Aarons, Jonjo Shelvey, Ayoze Perez; Dwight Gayle
Substitutes: Matz Sels, Jamie Sterry, Grant Hanley, Jack Colback, Henri Saivet, Yoan Gouffran, Florian Thauvin, Adam Armstrong, Aleksandar Mitrovic

Mitrovic is suspended for the first four games of the season and is on the bench as Rafa tries out potential starting line-ups for a week on Friday at Fulham in the first game.

Goalkeeper Karl Darlow gets only his second start in pre-season and Paul Dummett gets a start at left back with Daryl Janmaat at right back – with young Jamie Sterry on the bench.

Vurnon Anita and Isaac Hayden get their chance as the two holding midfielders, so Rafa has a number of players who can play there, but Cheick Tiote is not in the squad for tonight.

Shelvey gets a chance in the number 10 role with the two wingers being Rolando Aarons and Ayoze Perez with Dwight Gayle upfront.

It looks like Hayden is earmarked for the Tiote role.

Shelvey’s our “flair” player..much like late career lampard, gerrard or pirlo

he’s a positive offensively; but a massive liability defensively.

its essential that he’s surrounded by athletic midfielders, because they have to cover his position

Was hoping Sterry would be in the starting lineup to tonight, hope he plays well tonight to stake his claim for first team football.

I see the Northern Football correspondent for the Daily Telegraph has tweeted the following:

.@OM_Officiel are hoping to conclude the signing of Florian Thauvin from @nufc for £6m. #nufc

Lets see if this is true

Jail, wtf are you on about?? Re your discussions with Lilongwe , I criticised rafa for some of his early work with us, so what. Some of s are smart enough and opinionated enough to call things for what they are, or at least give a strong opinion. Like anyone I am thrilled to have rafa, but for some reason I cant state that IMO, rafa played Sissoko in an odd position in 2-3 games or more, not just leiscester. similarly I cant say he was too defensive v Makems at home???? Or Villa away?? Sorry, is this the ” thou shalt not criticise Rafa, ever” blog ?

Gamez banned for tonight’s game. Tiote did not travel with strong rumours he is on his way out to the Middle East for a big money move #nufc

Tiote is going to need a new fake driving license and falsified insurance for his new home.

Don’t be surprised if this is the line up for the starting game with perhaps gamez coming in.. Rafa said recently he will be starting to play what he feels is his strongest eleven in the friendlys and this can’t be far off that

well tiote was immense on his day but for the wages he must be on and his injury record the last 2 years its probably right for him to go now hopefully a new signing lined up soon then

You sure you don’t work for the Daily Mail ?
    You’re excellent at selective quotes.
Slank had earlier referred to his pedantry and took no offence at all.
Why do you feel the need to involve yourself in dialogue that took place when you weren’t even logged on ?

Tiote is not in the squad and rumours he’s moving on seems to ring true. Maybe China beckons.

Without Townsend,Tiote,Gina and Moussa not around lets hope the team gels and can impose themselves on opposition without the big time Charlies…

Jib if you think that is a valid link then your a bigger idiot than a took you for (which is tough going tbh).

Welsh Pritchard is an attacking midfielder who generally plays centrally but can play wide also.
