Rafa Benitez Not Satisfied – Wants This From His Players

11:39 pm, Tuesday, July 26th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 25 Comments

Newcastle were not too good in the first half last night in what was a poor game, but there was improvement in the second half and two good goals by Vurnon Anita and forgotten man Yoan Gouffran got Newcastle what seems to be a comfortable win in the end.

But Rafa wants more from his players and the players seemed to back off Southend in that first half and we cannot do that in the Championship.

Rafa is making incessant calls for the team to improve and become more professional booth as a team and as individuals.

This is what Rafa had this to say to the Chronicle after the game last night:

“We have to say again, we must improve.” “It was a solid performance and we were fine but we must improve. We have one week and we have to adjust.”

“There are still two or three things that have to be better.” “It was a solid performance and we needed to do the job.”   “The first half perhaps Southend were a little bit better on the physical side.”

“After that we controlled the game and little by little we came back into the game.” “We did well on the counter attack and they had to take more risks. We then we managed the ball a bit better.”

“The answer to what team starts at Fulham is simple, we will be closer but we’ll see.” “We gave 60 minutes to the majority of the players and we will try to do a similar thing in our last friendly.”

The Rafa Benitez standards are sky-high and being a perfectionist he demands that Newcastle improve, improve and improve some more.

That sounds very good to us.

But we are mere mortals.

🙂 🙂 🙂

Two neat goals, both well taken.

I don’t think Rafa’s standards are sky high Ed ? The very bare minimum required from a trip to Roots Hall is a convincing win. Shame we didn’t get it ?

Sell Sissoko, Tiote, Riviere and reinvest the money in a left back, defensive mid, advanced playmaker and a winger

  • 5 jimmysmith // Jul 27, 2016 at 12:18 AM

    …….of modest abilities.

  • 6 jimmysmith // Jul 27, 2016 at 12:27 AM

    ………on 4 and 5 year contracts.

  • 7 expatmag // Jul 27, 2016 at 12:28 AM

Sell Sissoko, Tiote and Thauvin for 50 million

Sign Hughes from Derby, Robertson from Hull, Adams from Sheffield United, knockaert from Brighton and with Rafas coaching ability plus the promotion of Armstrong and Sterry ftom the Academy, we would have a strong healthy squad good enough to get us out if this division

  • 8 expatmag // Jul 27, 2016 at 12:40 AM

    Our current squad

    Krul Darlow Elliott Sels Woodman

Janmaat Mbau Sterry Lascelles Mbemba Hanley Dummett Good Satka Haidara Gamez

Anita Tiote Colback Hayden Saviet Shelvey Vuckic Ritchie Aarons Thsuvin Ameobi Bigi Sissoko Gouffran

    Mitrovic Gayle Armstrong Perez Riviere

Assuming Sissoko Tiote Thauvin Krul Vukic and Ameobi depart, I think there is still a beed to bring in 6 players to beef up the squad.

jimmy jesus man have you watched the same sisko as anyone else?
how can you say for the price we get for him we couldn’t get anyone better than him?
as i showed earlier a free transfer 2 years ago who for some reason is deemed shite on here scored the same but assisted 5 more goals than sisko in 8 less games and also a defenive mid!!
so no! defo not less modest abilities!
and if that means 4-5 year contracts of the same stats it’s a yes from me!
i’m sure sisko could rip this league up but so could many many others for far far cheaper and far far better attitudes than him
the villa and scum games showed that gini and sisko weren’t our best players and by a far margin

  • 10 jimmysmith // Jul 27, 2016 at 12:48 AM

Rivierre will be hard to shift, but probably has something to offer at this level, and is in the last year of his contract anyway. Tiote looks to be on his way, for a massive pay day, so good luck to him, and Thauvin is reportedly liked by the coaching staff, and does have great talent, and probably as importantly as anything else is here and in place having been given a clean slate under a new coach and as part of a new group, to make what he can of, as it should be, and of course he’s a winger, which we clearly need.

  • 11 manxpie // Jul 27, 2016 at 12:53 AM

to add to that the same free transfer (unfortunatley there isn’t the stats) but how many blocks tackles interceptions did he add to that at the same time let alone showing 100% effort as a given!
far less than sisko and i’d bet me house on it!

  • 12 jimmysmith // Jul 27, 2016 at 12:57 AM

Yes, these 25 million, 35 million quid players grow on trees. And you’ll have to refresh my memory regarding ever saying for the price we’d get for him we couldn’t get anyone better, although I do struggle to see how likely that is, in the Championship, and with prices likely to be that much higher this time next year.

  • 13 jimmysmith // Jul 27, 2016 at 12:59 AM

Manx, you do realise your view of Sissoko isn’t shared by Benitez, Deschamps, Klopp, Koeman and Zidane apparently.

  • 14 manxpie // Jul 27, 2016 at 1:03 AM

this whole arfa mentality thing boils my piss tbh
that players who actually show effort are dismissed regardless of talent in most cases but as soon as someone is bothered to even try they get lauded like greats and untouchables and every excuse is created for them
nolan and barton got rid of them types last time imo
so hopefully rafa is doing the same this time (and lascelles)! 🙂

    jimmysmith // Jul 27, 2016 at 12:18 AM

    …….of modest abilities.

wat was this comment meant as then?
as i have said many times it will be the deal of the century for US!

how many players have been bought over the years from a couple of good games at a tournament for big money
is colback worth 35 mil at the mo?
no ofcourse not but it shows the stupidity of football
tell me really wat we will miss from sisko apart from power!? oh and when he can be arsed
btw klopp apparrently said he scouted gini for ages but thought he would only be a stop gap…. he’s just payed 25-30 mill for him

  • 16 SUTTY1978 // Jul 27, 2016 at 5:43 AM

Sissoko has created more chances for us than any other player, created more than Cabaye when he was here. The fact they haven’t been banged in isn’t his fault. He’s definitely the most creative player we have.

  • 17 Jib // Jul 27, 2016 at 6:33 AM

We have never lost at home under Rafa.
10 games unbeaten in a row now for Rafa.
    SUTTY @ 16
Andros Townsend created more chances than Sissoko and he was only here for 10 games !

  • 18 Jib // Jul 27, 2016 at 6:34 AM

Balls knocked itnto the box nowhere near an attacker do NOT count as created chances.

  • 19 Jib // Jul 27, 2016 at 6:38 AM

Townsend 13 games one as sub

  • 20 Jib // Jul 27, 2016 at 6:46 AM

Townsend 12 PL starts 4 goals

Sissoko 118 PL starts 11 goals – 1 goal in the League cup – none in Europe or FA cup his record is truly awful.

You can’t quantify the games where he justified his selection with 2 or 3 eye-catching surging runs which produced bugger-all and zero input for the rest of the game.

  • 21 Jail for Ashley // Jul 27, 2016 at 6:53 AM

Sissoko dividing fans opinion again. If he stays and Rafa gets the best out of him then fair enough but if he’s determined to go and we see the type of performances we have done in the majority of games over the last three years then cash in while we can. This is another player we researched as having the “right” character who went on strike to force a move. His lethargic touchline warm up until the camera panned in when he kicked in like a duracell rabbit sums him up.

  • 22 Jib // Jul 27, 2016 at 7:03 AM

It’s really quite clever of Rafa.
He knows just how to get the best out of Moussa’s limited game.
He knows any coach worth his salt will be aware of his shortcomings .
He has put a CL players price on his head.
    It’s a win/win situation for the club.
As for any dressing room shenanigans – if he stays Rafa will be on his case straightaway.

  • 23 Jail for Ashley // Jul 27, 2016 at 7:10 AM

Danny Murphy mentioned Sissokos lack of effort in a majority of games during his commentary of a France game, if he knows this then so does every manager interested in him. Maybe Rafa thinks by giving him the captaincy he can get 100% out of him.

  • 24 Jib // Jul 27, 2016 at 7:19 AM

This article confirms what we already know.
That Sissoko (who is telling the French media constantly he is not staying at Newcastle)
has his future inextricably linked with the fate of Paul Pogba (who is still on holiday and unlike MS talking to no one )

  • 25 jimmysmith // Jul 27, 2016 at 9:43 AM

Manx “of modest abilities,” means that if we sell Sissoko and buy 4 players with the money, none of those players is likely to be of much impact should we return, and added to that all four would be on long contracts and quite possibly tough to shift.
