Deal For Mohamed Diame Said To Be Close

The Hull Daily Mail are reporting today that Newcastle launched a (cunning) dawn time raid for Hull’s 29 year-old midfielder Mohamed Diame and activated the release clause in his contract.

That release clause is sad to be £3M and as we reported earlier today when the news first broke, there’s not too much Hull can do about it.

Nottingham Forest v Hull CityFriendly

Mo Diame – 29 year-old Senegal International

It now depends on whether Newcastle can reach terms with the player and his agent and then the deal can go ahead and be completed.

But since this news has now broken, expect some Premier league clubs to be interested in getting Diame, so we just hope that Newcastle are far enough along in their negotiators to tie up the deal.

Newcastle will want to move very quickly to tie up the deal and the Hull Daily Mail is reporting the deal could be closed within 48 hours.

So it makes sense that at least this transfer will not drag on for any length of time and maybe the next thing we hear is that terms have agreed and Mo is on his way to Newcastle for a medical.

The good news is that Mo is reported to be keen to join the Magpies, so maybe the terms have already been discussed and are acceptable to the 32 times capped Senegal International?

Mohamed Diame for £3M would be a terrific deal for Newcastle and he would presumably replace Moussa Sissoko who we expect to sell for £35M.

Not bad deal-making from Newcastle.

Comments welcome.

Agreed our Toon. He’s a powerhouse who can score a few goals. I actually think that he is very similar to Sissoko, he can drive with the ball. But we’ll see, he should be given a chance by the fans… Especially since Rafa is the one who is signing him. He must see him as a solid replacement for either Sissoko or Tiote.

A lot more to him than Sissoko. Really has a bit of everything in his game.

I think you may have my predictions but just in case you haven’t. I have changed it slightly.

    117 points
    League cup Win
    FA Cup 3rd round
    MOS Shelvey
    TGS Goufran
    24 goals

I based our total points so high because I reckon the defence is not going to concede many goals.

I selected Shelvey purely on what I saw at SUFC, if he can reproduce that all season then he will be easily our best player.

As for Goufron he could easily be the surprise packet, he has the ability. But I realise he’s a bit of a long shot.

As for the 3rd round exit in the cup, it’s a long standing tradition to go out to a non league side!!

Toward the end of last season I was concerned about the physicality and experience of our team going into the Championship. Rafa has recruited very well to a point where these things are our strengths.

    Potential line up for Friday…..

    ———- Hayden — Anita ————

    Ritchie ———Diame——–Knockaert

    over rated

thnk you might be pleasantly surprised. i think there are goals in this team. i think it might be a blessing that mitro misses 4 games because I do think a lot of teams will sit off us, whereas quicker more mobile strikers may get in behind.

I would say Diame’s best position is in the def mid of the game, although he rarely played this at WHU, he played this position mainly at Hull. The beauty of this, is his capability of getting forward from that position on the counter attacks. Be very happy if we sign him.

Diame, Shelvey and Tiote/Colback with Hayden competing could be a devastating midfield in the Championship if Diame is as good as he used to be (Ive not watched him since he left West Ham)

@wwsbrd – if the play off final is anything to go by Diame is possibly better than he was at west ham!
Remember some pundit saying if you want to win the championship you need to buy premier league standard players, it’s looking like we’ll have that in abundance

I would say Diame is just a pure engine/box to box midfielder, he’ll get back to defend, he’ll drive the team forward similar to sissoko on his day and but will get goals.

shocks me that people leave shelvey out of their line ups…
He might have struggled last season but he’s come back with a great attitude, trained in his holidays and shed weight, and has bossed the games in preseason.
We didn’t pay him 80k per week and he doesn’t have multiple England caps for nothing. He performed consistently for Swansea for all but his last 3 months there. Passing range is sublime, he creates so many openings and chances. We’re gonna have a lot of the ball next year, it’s tailor made for a player like shelvey to perform.

Only concern i see are the injuries, ACON, and that ive seen a few west ham fans going on about how diame was always going on about playing in the top 4? Seems familiar… but nevertheless ive always rated diame since he was at wigan

Even if we did sign Diame and Knockhart who are proven in this league our team lacks pace,
Our quickest player is Gayle then Arrons who isn’t that quick after all his injuries we have no one that can just run with the ball relieve pressure, make teams sit back through fear of us breaking away.

Yeah but Diame I’m sure is aware of how crackpot Hull are and their chances of survival are slim, the probability being we’re going to switch leagues again.

52000 crowds or 15000-17000 they’re likely to get this season?

    Rafa or ?????

As for contract, I’m sure we can match them.

Diame is no slouch. Have you never seen him play? As good a ball carrier as Sissoko. Better dribbler, slightly slower, just as powerful.

I do rate Diame, he is no where near as good as Sissoko though, he’d only be slighty slower if Sissoko was only jogging Diame is not quick at all
