Rafa – Some Players Still Considering Futures At Newcastle

There’s been some wild activity today as Newcastle made a surprise move to activate the release clause in the contract of Hull City midfielder Mo Diame – and it looks very likely that Newcastle will get their man.

The release clause is for £4.5M, but Hull City have countered today with an offer of a new deal to the 32 times capped Paris-born Senegal midfielder.

But there are reports that Mo has turned that four year offer down and the Chronicle are reporting this afternoon they expect Newcastle to sign the player soon – in the next day or two.

Rafa Benitez – three of four players still undecided

With players still having to come and go this summer, Rafa is concentrating on new players coming in and the Chronicle are reporting we could have as many as four new players through the door soon.

There is also likely to be an effort this week to get some players signed – before we start our Championship season at Fulham on Friday night.

But Rafa will not want this transfer stuff to get in the way of our preparation for the game at Craven Cottage and hopefully we can pick up all 3 points in that first game.

We cannot be over-confident this season and every single game is an important one.

After the utter  frustration, humiliation nad disappointment of last season, we will be happy with every single win we can get this season.

This is what Rafa has said today, and it seems  that some of our players are still undecided about staying at Newcastle:

“We have three or four players considering whether they have to go or will stay. We have offers for some of them. It is a difficult situation for them.”

“The others who started the game will have to be here, but we will see how many soon.”  “I like to have competition for places so I don’t just want to say that this will definitely be the team.”

“Those who weren’t in it must know they have a chance – and they will have a chance. There are 46 games in the Championship. It means we can retain players and give all of them an opportunity.”

Players in that group probably include Cheick Tiote, Manu Riviere, Yoan Gouffran and Florian Thauvin, although there was news yesterday that an offer from Lazio for the Frenchman had been accepted.

We don’t think Moussa Sissoko is considering his future on Tyneside – he wants to leave as soon as possible and he hasn’t been shy about letting people know that.

Comments welcome.

I’m still expecting a fair bit of business to be done. I would imagine one of our GK’s will be on the way plus Sissoko, Tiote, Thauvin & Rivi as well as trimming the u21 (u23?) squad. I think a LB and another winger should be priority before any further strikers. I think Gayle, Mitro & Arma will be all playing for the 1 up top. Perez or SDJ in the no.10. I like we have proper competition for RB with Sterry, Janmaat & Gamez

If we get stuck with Sissoko, he will need to knuckle down and do what he can to impress for a January move 😀

Why are people leaving Mbemba out of their starting 11? If Hanley is to take someones spot pretty sure it wont be his

Why would we need to sign Knockhart? We have bought Ritchie in they both play the same position? We’d be better off buying an actual left winger instead of putting players out of their preferred one.

    Final League Position – 1st
Final no. of points – 100
League Cup round – quarter final
FA Cup round – 5th round
Player of the Season – Armstrong
    Top goal scorer – Armstrong
No. of goals for TGS – 25

I know it’s not expected that Arma will get many minutes but if he goes on a scoring streak, I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see him in the middle of the 3 supporting players and chipping in with a lot of goals – here’s hoping!

If Sissoko stayed – would be a canny midfield partnership of Diame and Sissoko.

Well, we have dithering opinions on who our best CH is. Obviously, Lascelles didn’t play much last season but towards the end he was easily our best, most vocal and passionate player. He has carried that through to pre-season and he looks very accomplished in that role. Having said that Mbemba was also a bright light in our defence last season and I agree in ways that he doesn’t deserve to be dropped. However, the reason I would start with that pairing is simply based on the fact that lascelles and Hanley both have championship experience, more so Hanley who captained Blackburn at this level. I just feel like our strongest defence is the one that I have put out. However I wouldn’t be upset if Hanley is on the bench against Fulham because I do really like Mbemba.

Diame – looks very good indeed if we get him.

Open Day – again looks like those who attended enjoyed themselves.

Next FF Meeting – Wednesday 10th August. – wonder what they will ask the club reps – now that there appears to have been massive changes for the better.

Lascelles is quickly becoming a very hyped young man, certainly hope he can live up to it but Mbemba was very good all season not just when Rafa came in. He doesnt have the experience of the Championship because he is above it

Id be amazed if Mbemba isnt one of the first names on the team sheet

Janmaat was not happy after Tiote took him out!
Big Vurn and Hayden as definite starters, along with Dummett. Those 3, Gayle and Lascelles were running around the outside of the pitch while the others were playing 5 – a -side- seemed Rafa was keeping them together for a plan! Mind Taffy Dummett was quickest, strange to see a white man catching everyone else – especially one not wearing a police hat or carrying a gun!

I’d say Lascelles is nailed on to be captain, can’t see Rafa giving it to anyone else after making him captain all pre-season. If that’s the case then he’s not going to be the fall guy and will be the first name on the team sheet. I can see a Mbemba/Lascelles pairing as well with Hanley waiting for Mbemba to slip up. I’m not sure who the fourth CB is though.

Not sure about that, lapses of concentration were a major flaw in his game last season, that may well be resolved with competition for places.

Mixture of being young, having a weary partner beside him, no coaching and being in a new league up against some of the best in the world

In the Championship though he will have none of those issues. He will still make mistakes but Id be very surprised if he has half as many as his competition
