Here’s the first photo evidence that Ciaran Clark is in Newcastle as he leaves the Benton training grounds after completing his medical.
It could well be a double announcement of the signing of both Ciaran and Mohamed Diame tonight or tomorrow morning – with Diame seen entering Freeman Hospital this afternoon.
What a two days it’s been for Newcastle United and Rafa is certainly shaking things up for the better – long may it continue.

I think you’re one of the posters in the camp that haven’t quite got to grips with this whole relegation malarky. This summers window was never going to be about putting together a team that would go up and assault the CL. It looks very much like he is putting together a tough no nonsense team together all with top flight experience that will do the job in hand AND hold their own in the first season back. Once back in the PL we can then attract that top quality LB, CB and ST. I think Rafa is planning for the long term and it’s going to take a few windows. Unlike before though, unless Masters throws a spanner in we’ll not be taking one step forward three steps back anymore.

Getting two young kids from Madrid would seem to be very much going against the grain from the players he has brought in so far and I don’t see them coming in to play for the U21’s

Comment #165On Hanley and Clark, maybe Lascelles and Mbemba might turn out to be a World class pairing under Rafas guidance, it doesn’t do any harm at all to have a Scottish and ROI defender as a back up to your main CB’s. Willo was a perfectly adequate back up and gave his all, his biggest problem was the lack of cover ensured that he played more games than the other three CB’s that came and went combined.

Saying that I’d have that young kid from Man U here as LB with Dummet as back up to him or vice versa and Gámez back up to Jaanmat, I don’t think we’ll be seeing much of Haidara anytime soon.

Comment #168Disclaimer:
Williamson did not make more appearances than the other three combined. It felt like it though and he made way to many appearances to be classed as a third choice back up.

Comment #169“Newcastle United will turn their attentions to attacking reinforcements after striking deals for Mo Diame and Ciaran Clark, who both underwent medicals on Tyneside today.
The Magpies want to sign an experienced forward and a wide player to complete a summer of huge change on Tyneside and are confident they will be able to do both deals long before the end of the transfer window.”
The sooner the better! How many red cards will Nitro get this season?

Mccormack and Knockeart with Sissoko going to WBA or Palace for 25M would make this the best window since Shearer signed.

I really have no idea about those players, but just read about them. They seem like useful players whom would do what you require: suitable for this window and we’ll upgrade when in the PL (Jail) ; battle-ready players, for second tier, now (Hibbitt)

Looking forward to the talk in tonight, hopefully the weather is good so I can potter in the garden while listening. Might even ring in for the first time and ask about the long term plans.

Comment #175Jail@161 – I think, in my defence, I have been realistic in my expectations. These latest signings are the first of which I have been critical. I get what’s required to make it in the Championship, and the restrictions that a team in this league has. I just have a problem with these two signings, and that gives me some misgivings overall. I have affiliations with both West Ham and Villa supporters which perhaps gives either a more accurate, or maybe more jaundiced view. We’ll see.
