From last thread 2 goal Tino

Wonder if we’ll see much of saivet. He was highly rated in France. Hasn’t really had a shot here. Normally that’s for a reason though.

    He started as a winger.

If Diame is a replacement for wini then sissoko must be staying 😉

Pritchard to Bighton might open the door for their winger coming to us and for thauvin leaving. Transfer merry go round.

ust offering my 2 cents on Clark. Ive seen him play quite a bit.

Here’s the pros of the deal:
Plenty of Pl experience. Is not injury prone. Gives 100% always. Rafa can make good defenders. Can play lb…A problem position for years. Takes a key player away from our rivals villa. Competition for positions is good. All that For 5m it is not a gamble in today’s financial climate. If he can get his act together he could become a good lb in the mould of Coleman who is a very good right back.

    Cons:
Makes a lot of mistakes. Very rash in the tackle. Only watch his last proper competitive outing as a player and you will see some horrendous mistakes. It was ireland vs. Belgium in the euros. Himself and o shea were dropped after for their blunders. Despite being a big lad he is only decent in the air. Willo would be better.
Doesn’t appear to have the finesse or ability to beat a player to be a good wing back. Would be the same mould as dummett in regards being a l.b. His arrival might hinder the development of lads like mbabu and dummett. If he was bought as a cb then it makes me worry that we might lose mbemba.

Overall it’s a decent deal. However personally I would have favoured a move for a better l.b. I worry this deal might end mean the defence is sorted.

great to see him building a good big squad rather than a first strong 11, theres going to be a strong bench which is always good to see, also delighted woodman signed a 4 year contract, he,s englands future

Assuming that both Diame and Clark sign, and also assuming that Sissoko, Tiote and Thauvin move on is you look at the squad it’s starting to look half decent, I know we all have our favourites and we would select a different starting elevens but if we started with

    —————————Sels—————————-
    -Gamez—–Mbemba—-Lascellas—Dummett–
    —————Hayden——Shelvey——————-
    —Ritchie———–Diame————-Aarons
    ———————-Gayle——————————

that would then leave a back-up team of

    —————————-Darlow————————
    Janmaat——–Clark————Hanley—–Haidara
    ——————Saivet———–Colback————–
    Anita——————-De Jong————–Perez—
    ————————-Mitrovic————————-

Now to me that is not a bad second string and don’t forget that we also have Gouffran and Riviere, perhaps we could try to get rid of those, and we also have the kids as well and I’m sure that Armstrong, Sterry and Mbabu will be desperately trying to feature, for me looking at that second string the biggest weakness is our wingers as neither Anita nor Perez are natural wingers and Haidara with De Jong cannot be relied upon, but generally I don’t think we are that far away from having a well balanced squad.

Fostino, interesting analysis on Clark. With what you say in mind do you think the rumor about Paddy Mcnair are of the mark?? we seem to be pretty strong at the back for a change. barring the LB.

Clark to me is almost indistinguishable from Steven Taylor in playing style, just has more years left in him and a much better injury record and therefore fitness level.

Despite not being a youngster anymore, maybe Rafa thinks he can take off his rough edges and make him a solid player. Rash judgement and bad decision making can be corrected if the player is bright enough and has a good teacher.

Taylor was thick to say the least, ageing and ever more injury prone, Rafa knew that and ditched him. Let’s hope Clark is a little more lucid, he has 4 years on Taylor, better fitness and a top teacher, now he’ll need to be a good student and prove that his shortcomings so far in football have been down to having crappy teachers at a club in turmoil and slow decline.

Don’t know much about mcnair or the rumour. Reckon if rafa has clark down as a cb cover then lb is still a problem position. Dummett imo is a better cb and haidira is injury probe and not Pl standard.

Let Pritchard go to Brighton…I’d rather us not deal with Spurs!! Then test Brighton again with the full £10m for AK.

I guess nothing came from the Forestieri whisper from the weekend!!Thought it was too good to be true!

Looking at everyone’s predictions for league position and TGS I thought I’d check the relevant odds,

For us finishing first with the following as TGS you can get,

    Gayle 12/1
    Mitro 16/1
    Perez 25/1

Yeah I realise that AC coming back would be very unlikely and as you say a pipe dream, especially as he had a very good end of season for WH and was close to being at the Euros for England.

Still an offer of Sissoko for him plus £15m could be a tempter. 🙂

I was really thinking along the lines of having a big strong un for set pieces to break down packed defences.

Having had time to ponder on it, Lascelles and Hanley could be the right men for that situation, Mitro ought to be able to do it as well just not sure if he has the bulk.

Bus parking could be a problem though.
