Official – Mohamed Diame Signs For Newcastle

5:05 pm, Wednesday, August 3rd, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 120 Comments

Newcastle have just announced they have signed 29 year-old attacking midfielder  Mohamed Diame from Hull City and the fee is thought to be a modest £4.5M.

It follows a little while ago, when the club reported that Ciaran Clark from Aston Villa has also signed by the club after both players passed their medicals yesterday.

Mohamed Diame after signing for Newcastle

This is the announcement from the club.

Midfielder Mohamed Diame has become Newcastle United’s latest arrival, after signing from Hull City for an undisclosed fee.

The 29-year-old Senegal international has agreed a three-year deal at the Club and becomes the eighth player to join the Magpies’ first team squad this summer.

Diame began his career with French side Lens, before moving to Spain, where he turned out for Linares and Rayo Vallecano.

He joined Wigan Athletic in August 2009 and has spent the last seven years in England, turning out for the Latics, West Ham United and Hull City.

Last season he scored the only goal in the Championship play-off final at Wembley, as the Tigers booked their place back in the Premier League.

At international level, Diame has won 28 caps since making his senior debut in March 2011, and featured for his country at the 2012 Olympics.

This is what Diame said after the signing:

“It is a great feeling to be a Newcastle player,”

“Everybody close to me knows how desperate I am to play in the Premier League again, but when Newcastle comes in for you it makes you think.”

“I am looking to the future. Newcastle is a big name, a massive club and will be back in the Premier League, for sure.”

Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez added:

“Mohamed is a strong, attack-minded player with a lot of fight and determination to his game.”

“He is also someone who will provide the team with goals and assists from midfield.”

“He has good experience of the Championship and the fight needed to win promotion, which will be important for us.”

This is another excellent signing for Newcastle United.

even if it does become on of SSN deadline day scoops I very much doubt that it will have a negative impact for us seeing that we have already signed his replacement, not selling him could only strengthen us, we can’t lose, it’s win win due to us getting Diame in.

  • 2 SuperShearer // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:11 PM

    Dear Mousa,
This is your replacement. Reckon you’re better than him? Better prove it to all those ‘big clubs’ that you keep harping on about.

  • 3 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:13 PM

Great signing. Wanted him 5 years ago.

Still need 2 left backs, 1 winger, a playmaker and a striker.

  • 4 Spoof // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:14 PM

Sounds like Rafa is going to play him as an attacking centre mid seeing that he was waxing lyrical about goals and assists, does that leave an opportunity for Shelvey to play behind him !

  • 5 Ron Knee // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:15 PM

Good news. When can he start?

  • 6 El Sleeve // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:16 PM

So what if Diame has a b blinder v fulham and plays better than Moussa, will we even get north of £20m for him?

  • 7 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:16 PM

Sissoko has to start on fri if he’s still here.

    My team would be:

    Janmaat Mbemba Lascelles Anita

    Sissoko Diame Saivet Ritchie

    Perez Gayle

  • 8 El Sleeve // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:17 PM

    Next Borthwick-Jackson please

  • 9 firebug666 // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:17 PM

And if we brought in all those players you want just exactly how do we manage to register them all to play this season?

We can only have 25 players over 21 years that can be registered.

Not sure we have the room for many more, unless we can get rid of some.

  • 10 El Sleeve // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:18 PM

Would Rafa play Sissoko on Friday?

  • 11 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:19 PM

I think Diame and Ritchie are good signings. Not sure about the rest. Ciaran Clark is full of mistakes and scores own goals. Hanley might be okay. Not sure about Gayle as he couldn’t get in the Palace side. Don’t know about Gamez. We could do with Abeid, Shane Long and Aly Cissokho.

  • 12 JP...from The Rock // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:19 PM

Great signing for us. Been waiting for this one all day. The only thing bothering me about the deal id that it’s only a 3 year contract. Why? When we always do 5 years.

  • 13 firebug666 // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:21 PM

In 3 years he will be 32 mate, so maybe they will look at him again then.

  • 14 nut meg // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:21 PM

According to transfer market Clark has only played left back 7 times,he’s a centre back.

  • 15 Belfast // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:22 PM

Good signing. I’m nearly sure Benitez wanted to sign him when he was Liverpool manager.

  • 16 JP...from The Rock // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:23 PM

Kets at it again lol. Aly Sissoko ffs. You don’t rate Hayden either then? I think the best 3 signings so far have been Ritchie, Diame and Hayden. Gayle could be a star for us but unsure.

  • 17 Ron Knee // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:23 PM

So two more signings to come?

  • 18 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:24 PM

Sell Dummett and Colback. Both poor players. Keep Tiote, Saivet, Riviere, Sissoko and Janmaat. Riviere would tear teams apart in this league. Give him and Saivet a chance.

  • 19 Belfast // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:26 PM

    Probably Hodgson actually lol

  • 20 JP...from The Rock // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:27 PM

Firebug666- I could have sworn I read somewhere he was 26 lol anyway happy days!

  • 21 The American // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:27 PM

Probably because we sign players who will be 29 and in their prime at the end of their five year deal. Diame is theoretically in his prime and would on the other side of the hill at 34 by the end of a five year deal. Just business my friend.

  • 22 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:27 PM

Not sure about Hayden. Couldn’t get in the Arsenal team and was sub a lot for Hull. Sounds like another Frimpong.

  • 23 El Sleeve // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:27 PM

Kets, please man, get off football manager, Cissokho and Rivière are pure gash!

  • 24 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:28 PM

I actually rate Riviere higher than Armstrong and Gayle. His pace is electric.

  • 25 firebug666 // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:29 PM

The problem with Riviere IMO is he has no shot, he gets into good positions, can muscle defenders aside, but I have yet to see he take a shot at goal where the goal keeper hasn’t got the time to finish the entire works of Shakespeare while waiting for the ball to reach him.

  • 26 JP...from The Rock // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:29 PM

Kets you sure are optimistic on Riviere tearing up the league lol I wouldn’t play him and the sooner we get rid of him the better. He is shot of confidence and he doesn’t look that capable anyway. Can’t score to save his life out asap!

  • 27 JP...from The Rock // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:30 PM

Kets you seriously rate Riviere more than Gayle and Armstrong!? Hahha mann I want some of what you’re smoking must be some quality shiiit lolol

  • 28 Bobbybee // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:30 PM

Stop biting and he’ll get boreda. 😉

  • 29 Bobbybee // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:32 PM

Bored i mean. No idea what a boreda is. Sounds like something italian though. 😉

  • 30 JP...from The Rock // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:32 PM

Bobbybee yeah I betta lol there’s no point in carrying on, hopeless lol

  • 31 Jib // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:34 PM

    This was

    Moussa last Friday.
And you want him to play this Friday !

  • 32 GeordieTwo // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:36 PM

Ketsy you rate Rivi above Armstrong and Gayle???? Based on what? He has been poor since he came to us. He can’t even make the bench most of the time. He has shown no ability to score at all. Rafa won’t waste a playing position on him. His shot reminds me of Luuk De Jong’s. No shot at all.

  • 33 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:37 PM

He’ll come good if given the chance. He was awesome at Monaco.

  • 34 Spoof // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:40 PM

I think that Gayle will score a hatful, I honestly believe that he has been very unfortunate throughout his career but he has finally fell on his feet, he got kicked out by Arsenal for being too small, he’s nearly 5ft10″ so what that was all about I don’t know, he then played non-league whilst training to be a carpenter but made his way back up the football ladder to be signed for Palace by Ian Holloway, sadly he never got much of a chance under Holloway and the subsequent managers, Warnock, Pulis and Pardew all prefer a targetman as their main striker rather than a pace and movement striker which is what Gayle is.

This kid has not had it easy and he has had to work bloody hard to get where he is against odds which were stacked against him, but now he has a manager who prefers pace and movement and wants him, finally the kid is getting a break and I really do feel that he will respond, he is not a spoilt brat and he will not take it for granted, his journey to get him where he is will not allow that, he will rip this league apart.

  • 35 GeordieTwo // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:45 PM

And we’re not going to bring in 5 more players ketsy. Possibly two, and two or three to go out. We can’t go the entire season with 4 keepers so something has to be sorted there. Sissoko will probably go close to the end of the window. And I wouldn’t be surprised to see Janmaat go as well. Tiote is definitely looking for one last big payday.

  • 36 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:45 PM

5ft 10″ is well below average. Riviere just needs to get his confidence back. He is the fastest in the team.

  • 37 lukes26 // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:46 PM

Can you imagine what newcastle will do to the Championship if Sissoko stays and De Jong gets healthy?

everyone’s on sissoko’s case, but he can be really good on a balanced team.

de jong was the captain of ajax and we still havent seen what he can do when he’s healthy

  • 38 beermonkey // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:46 PM

    You do make me chuckle

Riviere has good positional awareness and seems to know where the ball is gonna be
But it’s a waste if he can’t get the ball in the net
I would rather see toney and Armstrong given a go

On Toney has he played any games in preseason

  • 39 GeordieTwo // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:46 PM

He may be quick but he doesn’t finish well at all. The French league is much different. He should go back there. He’ll never cut it over here.

  • 41 GeordieTwo // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:48 PM

He may never be fully fit again lukes mate. Not after a collapsed lung and lots of leg problems. He looks delicate to me. He has great football sense but very little pace or power.

  • 42 Legolas // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:49 PM

To be fair I think we have made some good signings. Especially for the league we are in, let’s not kid ourselves. (Not so sure about Hanley as I haven’t seen enough of him). Football is all about opinions but Rivere wasn’t awesome at Monaco. He scored 14 goals in something like 48 appearances in a much inferior league. That is not a good record for a striker. IMHO.

  • 43 lukes26 // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:49 PM

Riviere always just seems unbalanced to he doesnt know quite what his legs are doing

outscored falcao at monaco…not sure if that means as much now as it used to

  • 44 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:49 PM

We can let a keeper go. We have 4 good keepers. Krul is the best but the others are good enough. We have Janmaat, Gamez and Anita who can play right back. Haidara is always injured. Dummet is poor. Santon on loan would be a great signing or Aly Cissokho. Sell Colback to Palace for £5m. Aarons, Thauvin and Ritchie on the wings isn’t enough. We need one more. Shane Long would be a decent coup.

  • 45 GeordieTwo // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:54 PM

Colback is always underrated but he is very steady most of the time. He can play left back better than Dummett as well. Dummett can play a decent CB for a few games. I agree that the left side is the weaker one for us though. A left side player at fullback or wing and a senior striker would make us much stronger.

  • 47 Spoof // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:56 PM

in fairness to Riviere, and to Kets (bless him) I suppose, at Monaco he played as a winger more than as a striker, to a degree I do agree with Kets, he will not be a striker but his pace and power if used correctly could be useful in this league, as a wide player in a 4-3-3 I think he could be handy to have, but he is not a CF whereas Gouffran is yet he has never had the chance to show what he could do as a striker, for me we have opinions of these two lads which are based on what we have seen when they have been seriously mis-managed, don’t get me wrong as I’m not saying that they are world beaters but I am saying that they could possibly be better than what we have seen.

  • 48 Hail Wor Ashley // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:58 PM

Will contend with Ritchie for our signing of the season I think!

Now, what business is left to do?

    Thauvin – £9-11m

    Krul – £5-7m

    Sissoko – £30m+

Currently we’re at about £-5m net.

After those we’ll be £40m in the black minimum.

Probably need 1 more. A winger. Gouffran, Riviere and Haidara I wouldn’t mind seeing the back of, provided a new LB is brought in.

SDJ too, big fan, know he has class, but he is plagued by injuries and I hope we can get some Dutch club to cough up a few million so we can recoup some cash before he prematurely retires.

  • 49 Jib // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:58 PM

Shane Long has just signed a new contract at Soton

  • 50 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:58 PM

If we keep Sissoko and Thauvin and sign a left back and striker, we would’ve had a good window. Hopefully, we will be promoted by January, so we can sign some top players for the Premier league next season.

  • 51 Rotonda heights // Aug 3, 2016 at 5:59 PM

SDJ should just have his contract terminated and see if we can get any insurance pay out.

  • 52 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:00 PM

Siem De Jong will come back in a few weeks and break his leg in the first match back. He’s nearly as bad as Marcelino.

  • 53 Ron Knee // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:01 PM

“Are United finished yet on the transfer front? They’re not. They still want:
Striker – experienced target being considered at the moment
There won’t be anything else before Fulham (just two days away now) – but possibly next week we might see something else. Exciting times.”

  • 54 JP...from The Rock // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:02 PM

Completely agree Rotunda. As for Riviere – fast – joking me? Remember when he got in behind the city defence and panicked and shot from 40 yards. I just thought, Pardew has been spinning us one about this mans pace, assuming he was fit. Rotunda, Pardew wouldn’t spin one would he ? 🙂

  • 59 Legolas // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:10 PM

They both could play a part for us next season. All I am saying is he Rivere was not great at Monaco. We need a large squad and as we all know Rafa likes to rotate his teams. Everyone has a chance to play and hopefully they might just surprise a few people if they do.

  • 60 Munster Mag // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:10 PM

US Magpie, the Toon shirt has been washed and is drying. Lets hope for a good start

  • 61 GeordieTwo // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:10 PM

There’s quite a lot of goals in this side now. I think Mitro, Perez and Gayle will get at least 50 between them. Ritchie should be good for 10-12, Diame might get 8-10, and the rest of the midfield will probably get 10 or so. With a few goals from set pieces that would get us 75-80 goals. The defense is much better now so we should be able to keep it to around one a game against. That’s a +30 goal difference. We’ll be up near or at the top with that.

  • 62 lukes26 // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:12 PM

Agree on colback. Doesnt catch the eye like other players, but newcastle look more organized when he plays. basically he’s the opposite of shelvey

  • 63 Spoof // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:12 PM

    Geordie Two

Can you please explain what you have seen which then gives you the impression that Colback is a better LB than Dummett and Dummett would be better as a CB, do you realise that this myth about Dummett as a CB started through John Carver who said that he could see him developing into a CB in years to come, but do you realise that he has only ever played a hand ful of games as a CB, yes he played well but then he would wouldn’t he because he is good at defending, which is something which is debateble about Colback seeing that all he tends to do is get forced back putting the team on the back foot, remember his with Anita last season, and then to give us a break he commits an unnecessary fowl to make us sit even deeper, yet you say he is a better LB than Dummett who has faced all the top right wingers in the PL and never been fully put to the sword, yes Dummett will get skinned from time to time as all defenders do but he has never been destroyed, certainly not like Janmaat on the other side of the pitch.

  • 64 Munster Mag // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:13 PM

A left winger and physical striker would do for me. Even now, we have a serious looking squad. btw Clarke, from what I have seen is a centre back with potential. Wouldn’t think much of him as a left full. Dummett quicker in a straight line I would think.

  • 65 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:15 PM

RAFA – pleased with the squad but still needs to bring in players for balance.

His main ambition at the minute is to beat Fulham.

There will be defeats this season but we have to stick together and we need the fans behind us and at home and hope will make the difference.

We need players with experience and PASSION

  • 66 GeordieTwo // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:16 PM

Dummett is never going to set the world on fire as a CB or LB spoof mate. I think he could be a fifth choice CB. If Haidara could have stayed fit we would know if he’s ever going to be decent by now. I don’t think he’ll cut it. All I’m saying is Dummett is steady at best at either position and gives us a bit more flexibility on the left side. I would much rather have a new LB though if Gamez is not going to play there. I still rate Colback. People are far too negative about him.

Some common sense needed for Keta and Co. SDJ is not, and has never looked like, an athlete since he came here. Thauvin is a slow nonce. Sissoko is worth about 25mill. we are doing really well if we get 30k+ for a guy who cant tackle and has limited passing ability.

He spent 11 years (apart from 2 bad years at Chelsea ) playing in Spain.
Fulham have had a good pre-season and are at home.
I think we should beat them but please don’t think we are going to hump them.

  • 71 GeordieTwo // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:22 PM

People who diss Colback had better get used to seeing him in the side most of the time. I think Rafa rates him as steady with the odd goal or two in him. Tracks back well and recovers the ball without getting yellow carded (Tiote) as well.

  • 72 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:22 PM

RAFA – says we are still looking for two or three players.

  • 73 GeordieTwo // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:23 PM

  • 76 Spoof // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:27 PM

Do you not think that we have had enough of these so called wing backs, Haidara, Santon, Janmaat and so on, they aren’t effective, I seriously feel that people still look back at Beresford and feel that he is the role model and all fullbacks should pile forward as he did, thats in the past and how many times are we going to get burned due to these wing backs, thankfully Rafa doesn’t seem to be a wing back fan either which is why when you look at what he had with Dummett and kids to support/cover him and Janmaat with kids to support/cover him to chose to get a rightback, why would he get a rightback if he thought that leftback was the weak point, he wouldn’t would he, if Dummett was a weaklink we would now have another LB, but we haven’t so what does that tell you, it tells me that according to Rafa Dummett is not a weal link and due to that I am getting a bit frustrated with the Dummett views because so much confidence is instilled within Rafa yet they are in a round-a-bout way saying that he is wrong, seriously I feel it’s time to support the local lad as he has never let us down, unlike some.

  • 77 lukes26 // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:29 PM

Colback was the most yellow carded player last year & was 2nd in the league the year before

not a negative in my eyes though. i like his tenacity

  • 78 Hail Wor Ashley // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:31 PM

    Colback doesn’t get carded?

A little research shows he’s had 24 bookings since been here.

11 in 27 matches worth of playing time.

If Colback can engage brain more and doesn’t commit fouls when the player in possession is going nowhere, he can be the steady Eddy next to Shelvey, but Hayden is now waiting in the wings and Tiote is still around for the time being and I’m not convinced he’ll depart.

Well said if you support Dummett spoof mate. I think he’s steady at best which is acceptable for the Champs but not when we go back up. Good points about Colback lukes mate. I see a lot more positive about him than most. And the idea that he only passes sideways or back is ridiculous. He pushes the ball around quite well. I’d like to see his successful completion rate and compare it with some of the others in the squad. Tiote for example.

  • 83 GeordieTwo // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:35 PM

I surrender as far as yellow cards to Colback go though. The facts speak for themselves. I hadn’t realized his yellow card rate was so high.

  • 91 SPRINGY // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:40 PM

rafa thinks perez best position is number ten, behind the striker

  • 92 Munster Mag // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:41 PM

James, its gotta be Mitro. The man will run through walls with that jersey on ! 🙂

  • 93 JamesToon // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:43 PM

Mitro is a character and a man of heart and passion, in that sense hes’s perfect, he just needs to improve his game a bit and try and get 15-25 goals this season. he’s capable but he needs to be responsible.

Did you see on NUFC’s youtube video on the bus and mitro just said f*** off man, so funny

  • 94 SPRINGY // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:43 PM

mitro will be happy as a pig in shite to get the number 9 shirt….hopefully it inspires him to start blazing away with the goals.

  • 95 SPRINGY // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:44 PM

    james toon
is there a link to that video?

  • 96 Spoof // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:44 PM

I am fearful for Mitro due to Rafa’s preference for a more mobile CF, if Mitro gets the nunber nine shirt then it would allay my fears somewhat as I doubt that Rafa would give it to him if he didn’t rate him and it would be a tremendous boost for Mitro as well.

Lascellas will be captain, unless Rafa springs a surprise and makes Sissoko captain again.

    here you go mate:

  • 98 Legolas // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:47 PM

Jamestoon. I have seen the video. Funny.

It’s on NUFC TV. Just go on line and type NUFC TV.

  • 99 JamesToon // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:47 PM

between 1 and 3 minutes he says it

  • 100 Essex Geordie Bill // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:47 PM

For the benefit of all of those who are picking their teams fro Friday I’d just like to point out that Shelvey is a certain starter as is Laselles, Anita, Mbemba and Dummet. Just fill in he gaps as appropriate.

  • 101 Essex Geordie Bill // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:49 PM

Sorry about my grammar, I didn’t have a Grammar school education.

  • 102 Jail for Ashley // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:51 PM

I just spoke to him about the five year deals 😀

  • 103 lukes26 // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:51 PM

Its often incorrect to say Player A or B is ‘good’ or not

It was nearly unanimous in this blog (myself included) that Danny Simpson was not the type of RB a Champions league aspiring team would want

But you look at Leicester & they had Simpson on one side and Fuchs on the other …neither great going forward.

What im saying is, Dummett can be a great player depending on who he’s surrounded by & tactics utilized by the manager

  • 104 SPRINGY // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:51 PM

    cheers james/legolas
    al have look

  • 105 lukes26 // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:54 PM

I would bet good money that Shelvey will not start

  • 106 manxpie // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:55 PM

Jamestoon it’s gotta be mitro as he said there was 2 who wanted it and he wanted to have a comp to decide it then said but it’s sorted between themselves lol only gonna be 1 winner there like

  • 107 firebug666 // Aug 3, 2016 at 6:58 PM

I would like Mitro to get the 9 shirt, but I think he will stick with his 4+5 and Gayle will be the No. 9.

  • 108 magscar // Aug 3, 2016 at 7:04 PM

He said it was between 2 players and they didn’t have a competition but decided between themselves so I don’t think that is a bad call.

Good interview/phone in even the usual cliches/manager speak sounded good coming from Rafa 🙂

  • 109 spaghetti bandit // Aug 3, 2016 at 7:04 PM

Was that you jail haa,, heard ya.. I could listen to Rafa talk Newcastle and football for hours on end

  • 110 Essex Geordie Bill // Aug 3, 2016 at 7:07 PM

Not knowing how Rafa is thinking I wouldn’t take that bet but I think he is a nailed on certainty however we will see.

I am wondering if the 9 shirt will be allocated to anyone current in the squad.

  • 111 geordie157 // Aug 3, 2016 at 7:08 PM

When was the last time we beat Fulham at the cottage? I’m sure it’s one of away bogey grounds for us.

I think it’ll be a close game and a good test for us.

  • 112 carl // Aug 3, 2016 at 7:09 PM

Jail was Dave caller no 8. He said at the outset that he had a couple of questions for Rafa – but only got one.

He asked why were we giving 5 year deals ?
Rafa gave a gold answer that CB’s were 23,24 and 26 and they’ve been well scouted and can grow and play at a higher level in EPL.

  • 113 Jail for Ashley // Aug 3, 2016 at 7:10 PM

    Spaghetti bandit,
Wanted to say loads more but was nervous as fcuk ha ha

  • 114 YoungMagpieFromBurnley // Aug 3, 2016 at 7:10 PM

When was the last time we had this much team depth? It’s almost impossible to know what team Rafa is going to line us up with on Friday. It’s really refreshing since last season everyone knew what our team was going to be.

  • 115 firebug666 // Aug 3, 2016 at 7:12 PM

Last season the team picked itself, this season the manager will be picking the team……. happy days ahead.

  • 116 lukes26 // Aug 3, 2016 at 7:13 PM

i think rafa said he wanted to start his strongest team for the final friendly with vitesse & shelvey was a Sub for that game. so im just speculating based on that

i like shelvey though & hope rafa finds a way to use him

  • 117 Jail for Ashley // Aug 3, 2016 at 7:17 PM

(c)arl, the couple of questions were, and did the five year deals mean he was staying for five years but I forgot to ask. Not being media trained like you and Ian, I was a bit nervous.

  • 118 SPRINGY // Aug 3, 2016 at 7:21 PM

dont know if i misheard or was a slip but when rafa was asked are u ready for fulham, did he say yes but we have players coming in,was that meaning clark and diame or more to follow?….its sounds like he may attempt bid again for knockeart, even though it sounds doubtful.

  • 119 firebug666 // Aug 3, 2016 at 7:22 PM

Rafa Benitez has suggested that Newcastle United will “move on” from Anthony Knockaert.

The club has had a bid for winger rejected by Brighton and Hove Albion.

Newcastle have already signed eight players this summer, and Newcastle manager Benitez is also looking to add another wide player to his squad.

Championship rivals Brighton, however, do not want to sell the 24-year-old, who is rated in the £10million-bracket.

Asked on BBC Radio Newcastle about Knockaert, Benitez said: “We know that will not be easy.

“It will be tough to convince them. Normally, you try and if you cannot (sign a player), you move on.”

JFA- I can’t speak for Carl but I thought you did OK. Certainly better than Caller No.3 Alan the non Spanish speaking Geordie. Telling Rafa we hadn’t got enough goals in the team and what was he going to do about it.
