Official – Mohamed Diame Signs For Newcastle

Newcastle have just announced they have signed 29 year-old attacking midfielder  Mohamed Diame from Hull City and the fee is thought to be a modest £4.5M.

It follows a little while ago, when the club reported that Ciaran Clark from Aston Villa has also signed by the club after both players passed their medicals yesterday.

Mohamed Diame after signing for Newcastle

This is the announcement from the club.

====

Midfielder Mohamed Diame has become Newcastle United’s latest arrival, after signing from Hull City for an undisclosed fee.

The 29-year-old Senegal international has agreed a three-year deal at the Club and becomes the eighth player to join the Magpies’ first team squad this summer.

Diame began his career with French side Lens, before moving to Spain, where he turned out for Linares and Rayo Vallecano.

He joined Wigan Athletic in August 2009 and has spent the last seven years in England, turning out for the Latics, West Ham United and Hull City.

Last season he scored the only goal in the Championship play-off final at Wembley, as the Tigers booked their place back in the Premier League.

At international level, Diame has won 28 caps since making his senior debut in March 2011, and featured for his country at the 2012 Olympics.

====

This is what Diame said after the signing:

“It is a great feeling to be a Newcastle player,”

“Everybody close to me knows how desperate I am to play in the Premier League again, but when Newcastle comes in for you it makes you think.”

“I am looking to the future. Newcastle is a big name, a massive club and will be back in the Premier League, for sure.”

Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez added:

“Mohamed is a strong, attack-minded player with a lot of fight and determination to his game.”

“He is also someone who will provide the team with goals and assists from midfield.”

“He has good experience of the Championship and the fight needed to win promotion, which will be important for us.”

This is another excellent signing for Newcastle United.

even if it does become on of SSN deadline day scoops I very much doubt that it will have a negative impact for us seeing that we have already signed his replacement, not selling him could only strengthen us, we can’t lose, it’s win win due to us getting Diame in.

    Dear Mousa,
This is your replacement. Reckon you’re better than him? Better prove it to all those ‘big clubs’ that you keep harping on about.
    Sincerely,
    Football.

Great signing. Wanted him 5 years ago.

Still need 2 left backs, 1 winger, a playmaker and a striker.

Sounds like Rafa is going to play him as an attacking centre mid seeing that he was waxing lyrical about goals and assists, does that leave an opportunity for Shelvey to play behind him !

Sissoko has to start on fri if he’s still here.

    Sels

    Janmaat Mbemba Lascelles Anita

    Sissoko Diame Saivet Ritchie

    Perez Gayle

And if we brought in all those players you want just exactly how do we manage to register them all to play this season?

We can only have 25 players over 21 years that can be registered.

Not sure we have the room for many more, unless we can get rid of some.

I think Diame and Ritchie are good signings. Not sure about the rest. Ciaran Clark is full of mistakes and scores own goals. Hanley might be okay. Not sure about Gayle as he couldn’t get in the Palace side. Don’t know about Gamez. We could do with Abeid, Shane Long and Aly Cissokho.

Great signing for us. Been waiting for this one all day. The only thing bothering me about the deal id that it’s only a 3 year contract. Why? When we always do 5 years.

Kets at it again lol. Aly Sissoko ffs. You don’t rate Hayden either then? I think the best 3 signings so far have been Ritchie, Diame and Hayden. Gayle could be a star for us but unsure.

Sell Dummett and Colback. Both poor players. Keep Tiote, Saivet, Riviere, Sissoko and Janmaat. Riviere would tear teams apart in this league. Give him and Saivet a chance.

Probably because we sign players who will be 29 and in their prime at the end of their five year deal. Diame is theoretically in his prime and would on the other side of the hill at 34 by the end of a five year deal. Just business my friend.

The problem with Riviere IMO is he has no shot, he gets into good positions, can muscle defenders aside, but I have yet to see he take a shot at goal where the goal keeper hasn’t got the time to finish the entire works of Shakespeare while waiting for the ball to reach him.

Kets you sure are optimistic on Riviere tearing up the league lol I wouldn’t play him and the sooner we get rid of him the better. He is shot of confidence and he doesn’t look that capable anyway. Can’t score to save his life out asap!

Ketsy you rate Rivi above Armstrong and Gayle???? Based on what? He has been poor since he came to us. He can’t even make the bench most of the time. He has shown no ability to score at all. Rafa won’t waste a playing position on him. His shot reminds me of Luuk De Jong’s. No shot at all.

I think that Gayle will score a hatful, I honestly believe that he has been very unfortunate throughout his career but he has finally fell on his feet, he got kicked out by Arsenal for being too small, he’s nearly 5ft10″ so what that was all about I don’t know, he then played non-league whilst training to be a carpenter but made his way back up the football ladder to be signed for Palace by Ian Holloway, sadly he never got much of a chance under Holloway and the subsequent managers, Warnock, Pulis and Pardew all prefer a targetman as their main striker rather than a pace and movement striker which is what Gayle is.

This kid has not had it easy and he has had to work bloody hard to get where he is against odds which were stacked against him, but now he has a manager who prefers pace and movement and wants him, finally the kid is getting a break and I really do feel that he will respond, he is not a spoilt brat and he will not take it for granted, his journey to get him where he is will not allow that, he will rip this league apart.

And we’re not going to bring in 5 more players ketsy. Possibly two, and two or three to go out. We can’t go the entire season with 4 keepers so something has to be sorted there. Sissoko will probably go close to the end of the window. And I wouldn’t be surprised to see Janmaat go as well. Tiote is definitely looking for one last big payday.

5ft 10″ is well below average. Riviere just needs to get his confidence back. He is the fastest in the team.

Can you imagine what newcastle will do to the Championship if Sissoko stays and De Jong gets healthy?

everyone’s on sissoko’s case, but he can be really good on a balanced team.

de jong was the captain of ajax and we still havent seen what he can do when he’s healthy

    You do make me chuckle

Riviere has good positional awareness and seems to know where the ball is gonna be
But it’s a waste if he can’t get the ball in the net
I would rather see toney and Armstrong given a go

On Toney has he played any games in preseason

He may be quick but he doesn’t finish well at all. The French league is much different. He should go back there. He’ll never cut it over here.
