Newcastle To Announce Two New Signings Today

We knew of no interest for Mohamed Diame of Hull City and Ciaran Clark of Aston Villa on Sunday night, yet the two players will be announced as the 7th and 8th Newcastle summer signings today as Newcastle have done brilliantly in getting these two experienced and talented players to the club for £4.5M and £5M each respectively.

Both players were on Tyneside yesterday taking their medicals and assuming everything was OK on that front they will become Newcastle players officially today.

For an outlay of £9.5M the experience in the squad is raised significantly with players who have a lot of experience in the Premier League.

Both players were brought in for the fees in their release clauses so there’s not much Hull City and Aston Villa could do about it once terms were agreed and both players were reported as keen to join the Newcastle revolution taking place under Rafa Benitez.

The gross outlay this summer is now around £43.5M, but in net terms we are still making a profit of around £4.5M.

We have now brought in eight new players this summer and let eight senior players leave the club.

The news is that Rafa still wants two more players brought in – a winger and an experienced striker and it’s likely that both Moussa Sissoko and probably Florian Thauvin will leave the club in the near future.

I think Mohamed Diame could be the signing of the season. Just what we needed, a strong midfielder with presence. Now Colback can rot on the bench where he belongs.

I wondered why Diame was at the Freeman but then I read an article about how he was diagnosed with a heart condition when he was a young lad. Putting 2 and 2 together I wonder if they were doing some kind of tests on his heart e.g. ECG etc. as the Freeman has the heart unit.

All very clever signings, I’m not sure if any other team can boast of as many players with both Championship and PL experience.

Villa have tabled £10 million for MacCormack.

If that is too rich for Norwich’s blood I think the Toon will win this bidding war !

Really hope the winger and proven goalscorer arrive as I’m a little worried at the moment where the goals are coming from. We look solid now and with depth to cover but are we going to score enough to win games we will now doubt dominate.
A bit extra up top and we’ll go through this league like a dose of salts

The only player that I’m disappointed in leaving is Townsend, not just because I thought he’d do a good job in the Championship but because of how enthusiastic he sounded about staying, I saw a real Tyneside legend in the making. To then come out and say he left for footballing games reasons was a real kick in the teeth. I just wish that Ritchie hadn’t elected to play for Scotland and was able to take his England spot.

Mccormack hopefully goes to Norwich or villa, 15m for a 29 year old who won’t make the step up to the prem just isn’t worth it. The lad is at his level

jeraziah // Colback can rot on the bench where he belongs.

Nobody rots on the bench in the Championship with Benitez.

With Rafa going all out for the cups ( he knows no other way ) – the games will come thick and fast and have yer heid spinning !!!

If we can someone snag Sissoko to Real Madrid for cash plus Mariano Diaz then I would be very very happy.

Bit of back tracking there Jib, nobody rots on the bench now is it, Rafa didn’t sign anyone to sit on it last week you patronisingly told us.
    Bonny lad!

Nonsense colback is a solid player and will make a good contribution this season. Jail rafa will love tweaking the teams he chooses.liverpool fans and media gave him a lot of grief about it but he is all about fresh legs and tactics. If we get two more good players after clarke ( not sure if he much of a step up on dummett?) and diame (great if can get him) we will have a serious team/squad. We do need more creativity i think but we need key signings to stay fit, eg ritchie

Our toon, i disagree.mccormack is very dangerous. Its not really about being good a prem level. I rate norwich higher than villa and if they get him they will score a lot of goals

Budge I think you will find Gayle, mitro and Perez will score enough goals I am not concerned with this need for a proven striker as we have more than enough (debatable if McCormack is even better than any of them).

I have been speaking to a few people who seen a lot more villa games than me as I was not impressed with Clarke at all and they seem to back up my feeling. One person said he is worse on the ball than dummett and is probably not as solid defensively (he must be awful!!). Hope he turns out to be a decent purchase.

So happy with Diame think he will be most people’s fav player at the end of the season.

We are short on the wing and I still would like to see a creative flair player come in as we are going to be up against 10 men behind the ball in this league for large periods.

Would have liked a lb who can defend and contribute going forward to come in (maybe Gamez but not seen him) but it looks like we are finished in defence now.

I know you are a bit slow on the uptake but Munsters post at 16 might just give you a faint glimmer of what I meant.

Does anyone know the comparisons for the wage bill to date for our season in the championship compared to last season in the prem?

I’m curious as the squad seems better this summer and when sissoko goes there is no real big name, big wage and big egos left in the squad. I’m aware that we have lost as many players that we have brought in but those brought in compared to those that have left seem to be able to contribute more with the squad seemingly more balanced and rounded.
