Rafa Wants To Sell Aleksandar Mitrovic This Summer

The Mirror are reporting on Sunday that Newcastle are ready to sell 21 year-old striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Something we had wondered for a while – the Mirror is reporting that Rafa simply cannot trust the young striker who was sent off twice last season including in the last game of last season when he for his red card with just over 20 minutes of the season left, when we were leading 2-1.

Aleksandar Mitrovic – Rafa wants to sell this player

At the time Rafa Benitez looked very displeased with the young striker as it put Newcastle in jeopardy with the score at 2-1 and Newcastle down to 10 men.

It also means the striker is banned for the first four games of this season.

The news is that Benitez would like to sell Mitrovic in the current transfer window – who in his first season picked up four yellow cards and two reds.

He was signed for £13M from Anderlecht last summer and Newcastle will want at least that much for him this summer.

This will come as a big shock to most Newcastle fans, since he is already a favorite on Tyneside and he will certainly not want to leave the club – which was his dream move.

Maybe that’s why he wasn’t too bothered he didn’t get or seem to want the iconic number 9 shirt that his hero Alan Shearer wore so famously?

And after last night’s inability to score goals at Fulham,  fans were looking forward to the Serbian striker being able to play in the final (5th) game this month after he serves his four match ban.

Aleksandar scored 9 goals in 36 total appearances for the Magpies last season.

What do you think?

given last nights game we need his sort of physicality to come in and change a game when we need it, its all well and good selling him but who are we going to replace him with who has his sort of quality, physicality build and who wants to play in the league, strikers are the hardest players to sign

Personally I don’t see any basis to the story and it’s lacking much detail, I think everyone should forget they have read it and move along as It’s not going to happen

Mentioned this a few times over the summer. He was in the centre circle on the last day after the game and Rafa was shaking everyones hand, he approached Mitro gave him the full death stare and just walked on past him. 🙂

Mitrovich has to learn and I was hoping that would be a ‘bonus’ of relegation to give him that chance to improve and start scoring regularly. But he hasn’t a great record so far and so if Rafa says ‘out’, so be it.

I got the impression last season that Rafa doesn’t fancy Mitrovic. Mitro was heating up towards the end of last season but Rafa wouldn’t start him. He probably doesn’t trust him and the red card at the end of last season capped that off.

We need Mitro though. His style of play would probably be quite effective in the Championship. We need to try 2 up front.

Seems to me we have a lot of “Armchair experts” on here contradicting what Rafa is reported to be considering.
Not that long ago they were pleading with the man to stay. If in his opinion the hothead has been given his chances and squandered them, who are we to argue the toss about his judgement.
Go Rafa, but bring in a better replacement please!

Much as I like him, Mitrovich always looks like an accident is just waiting to happen. His temperament is suspect to say the least and he doesn’t use his aggresssion in the right way.
The fact his scoring record is poor means that for the amount of money we paid for him surely we could purchase a more effective striker.
Finally, why are we still looking at players like Galloway when a top (or near the top) creative midfielder is more urgent? Why can we never get our priorities right?

Rafa gives the death stare to many not just Mitro. I remember Gerrard saying in an article that Rafa had never ever called him “Steve” all the time as manager. He can be a cold fish but that’s how he works. I don’t think he would have signed Mitro, but I don’t think he will sell even though he knows we need another striker!
