Some Good News This Week For Newcastle

12:45 pm, Monday, August 8th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 42 Comments

There was great news posted on the Newcastle United Twitter account today that the total sales so far are over 50,000 so the game at St. James’ Park against Huddersfield Town will surely be a sell-out now.

And with the disappointing result last Friday in London will hopefully inspire Rafa and the players to want to  play really well and get the win which will send everybody home happy – not to mention all the many fans supporting the club all around the world.

St. James’ Park – what a stadium!

This will bring  some good news to Newcastle United this week – 52,000 attending the first game in the English second division game.

At which other club in England would that ever happen?

Unbelievable fan support on Tyneside – and it will remind Rafa, the coaches and the players at Newcastle what a great and proud club they are at.

On last word – we have to beat Huddersfield on Saturday.

I’ll say this for Sissoko, he’s a well rested man. All these dream clubs – Arsenal, Real Madrid, PSG. Must get plenty of sleep to be having all these dreams.

Sunderland are trying to sign Danny Ings apparently!!

If he is available we should be making calls to get him in

  • 9 geordie157 // Aug 8, 2016 at 1:20 PM

Yep that’s the line up I’d like to see.

  • 10 martoon // Aug 8, 2016 at 1:24 PM

Goromagpie @4 – Apart from Gamez is that not the line-up we finished with against Fulham?

  • 11 jayphoto // Aug 8, 2016 at 1:26 PM

Reports coming out of South Africa that we’re signing Khama Billiat for around 5m…. he’s 25 so not really a development squad player. be an interesting one

    Try again – Jayphoto

Question what makes you think Hayden is good?

Admit he looked a good advanced defender making it a 5 man backline, but he was the main culprit for passing back and dilly-dallying – IMO

Following wide reports over the weekend – understand Brendan Galloway is close to a loan move to #NUFC from #EFC

  • 16 jayphoto // Aug 8, 2016 at 1:40 PM

@lindisfarne – thought his positioning looked good, he mopped up well and was decent in the tackle. He is what he is for me, a ball winning defensive midfielder, the problem was he had no1 alongside him that was looking to make stuff happen.
Midfield wise we dominated the game in the middle and he contributed to that

  • 17 NUFCPaul // Aug 8, 2016 at 1:50 PM

geordie157 – you said you’d like another Ritchie earlier. I’d go for Lionel. That’ll have us all dancing on the ceiling. And I think he’d sign too because he was quoted as saying ‘Hello? Is it me you’re looking for?’

  • 18 Lindisfarne // Aug 8, 2016 at 1:53 PM

I suppose my disappointment with the result has clouded my judgment, he may have and I hope he was good in the tackle but I can not remember!

However, I think Rafa is likely to use the same starting line up in his man management role, in order to give them the opportunity to establish their places and despite a lack of creativity from the centre of midfield. IMO with the lack of a lone striker we need to be playing with two up front and a midfield diamond, which is possible with the same players.

  • 19 Goromagpie // Aug 8, 2016 at 1:54 PM

We played better football in second half with these players. Maybe Diame for shelvey would be good to see. Armstrong looked lively. Aarons gets into the box frequently which is very good to watch.
I think seim de Jong maybe good.

NUFCPaul is three times a lady

  • 21 jayphoto // Aug 8, 2016 at 1:57 PM

@lindisfarne – Id be surprised if Anita starts wide right again. Ritchie looked far more dangerous on the right than the left. Colback seemed a bit petulant when he went off too, looked livid! He was really poor. Shelvey looked good attacking when he came on, made some passes and looked for runners but gave away stupid fouls. Perez couldn’t handle the central role, looked lost.
My bet would be starts wide left, Diame comes in and Ritchie right with Anita dropping into midfield at the expense of colback or hayden

  • 22 Wayayman // Aug 8, 2016 at 2:03 PM

Lindisfarne @ 23 Re Hayden. From the away end Hayden looked class. He ran the 1st half, timing tackles well and making interceptions and always quick to make himself time on the ball. There’s a difference between dithering and delaying the pass to see what your options are. Toi be totally fair o the lad, it looked like he was dithering on the ball as he had no option at times, other than a backwards pass as Colback was nowhere of any use to him. Offensively, Aarons was woeful, he’s a trciky lad but seems like one of those kids who is great running at people but has no crossing ability or the calmness of mind to pick the right pass. Time after time both against Vitesse & Southend in the friendlies then agains Fulham on friday he wandered inside instead of hugging the touchline to stretch the midfield. That creates the space people like Ritchie and Hayden need to run at players. One a very small pitch v Fulham we needed him to do that, instead he came inside and received a pass with his back to goal.
The one time we got a player running the channels, Anita put in a good cross which we nearly scored from.

Aarons is not the answer for us in my opinion. We’d be better off with Ritchie on the left (unless we get a more attack minded left-back) and moving Janmaat up to right midfield allowing Gamez to play right back. We just dont really have the wide options at the minute.

  • 23 giimps // Aug 8, 2016 at 2:04 PM

Lindisfarne, i agree with the midfield diamond with Dejong at the base, Ritchie and aarons either side and Gayle just behind Mitro, (once Mitro is avaialble) until then i would try Diame at the tip and Gayle as the striker.
I wouldnt use Ritchie and Aarons as wingers though, reverse them so theyre both in on goal with their prominent foot ,Push Jaanmaat and Dummet up when we are in posession and leave Hayden sitting deep for protection.
We would still have the 4231 formation but much more attacking while at home and vs weaker opposition.

  • 24 Wayayman // Aug 8, 2016 at 2:05 PM

Sorry that was in response to Lindisfarne @13

  • 25 Ian Toon // Aug 8, 2016 at 2:07 PM

Munster – You’ve been around long enough to know that many fans see everything as black or white and that there are no shades of grey. I said before the game that it could well take a while for players to gel and we should not expect fluidity and flowing football just yet. What I hadn’t planned for was such a stilted cautious tactics. Having Colback, Hayden and Anita in front of a back four merely cramped any chance of flowing play and being so overly defensive it gave the initiative to Fulham and left us chasing a game we should have dominated. I am still trying to work out what Colback’s role was as he looked bemused by what was going on around him. I made the point earlier that it was a hangover from so many away games last season.

It will take time for Rafa to get the right blend and tactics but an injection of creativity and a proven goalscorer will go a long way to achieving that goal. I am hopeful that Shelvey will find a berth because we need that range of passing not seen since Cabaye left.
We were asked by Benitez to be patient, to allow individual
technique to flourish into a team structure. Bearing in mind we have sold, are selling our best players then new players will need time to settle.

We need more pace and creativity. If we have to sell Sissoko then let’s put a bid in for Cabaye who’s range of passing would free up Gayle from his Fulham anonymity; just as it did for Cisse. I am still hoping that Shelvey can fulfill that role .

  • 26 Wayayman // Aug 8, 2016 at 2:07 PM

I honestly cant see why people rate Aarons. He’s done nothing to warrant a start, he looked like he couldnt be arsed on riday. Came on then 5 minutes later was meandering back after he lost possession.

  • 27 martoon // Aug 8, 2016 at 2:08 PM

    @jayphoto & @lindisfarne
Surely Rafa realises that if you have a midfield with Anita, Colback & Hayden you are not going to get much in the way of attacking flair. I hope he doesn’t play all 3 in the next 2 games at home – far too defensive!

  • 28 Lindisfarne // Aug 8, 2016 at 2:09 PM

I agree with your suggestions and I was equally pleased with the passing shown by Shelvey, which we had desperately been missing. Colback reminded me of Jonas diving to the floor and I would replace him with the former and perhaps start with Aarons instead of Perez. Trying to second guess Rafa this would require Anita to play in midfield.

  • 29 Wayayman // Aug 8, 2016 at 2:09 PM

Ian, Hatden is basically doing Colbacks job for him. Just better. I think Diame will make a difference next to Hayden then we wont need Colback in the starting line up.

I was actually thinking the other day I’d like to take a closer look at Keagan Dolly, Billiat’s young teammate at Sundowns.

Billiat would be interesting, but he is quite lightweight, and probably a couple of years older than his registered age apparently. His first club are notorious for age cheating.

  • 31 jayphoto // Aug 8, 2016 at 2:22 PM

@Lilongwe – not seen or heard anything of Dolley. Billiat had a transfer to lille fall through so maybe they’re just trying to drum up interest? He’s absolutely rapid mind so the lightweight issue might not be a problem?
I always liked Tshabalala, never understood why he never got a European move after 2010.

  • 32 jayphoto // Aug 8, 2016 at 2:25 PM

speaking of age cheats, its Mbembas birthday today! Not sure which birthday it is mind.
    Happy 22nd, 27th, 29th or 31st birthday chancel 🙂

Hayden looked very good on Friday

  • 34 Ian Toon // Aug 8, 2016 at 2:33 PM

Wayayman– I was at the game. Hayden I thought was our best player in the first half keeping it simple but tidy.

  • 35 jayphoto // Aug 8, 2016 at 2:33 PM

the African reports are pretty interesting actually because they claim we were in talks to sign Ahmed Musa but got gazumped by Leicester city. What a signing that would have been!

  • 36 Graeme // Aug 8, 2016 at 2:33 PM

Jay – I thought that was all sorted out and confirmation obtained when he joined us??

  • 37 Belfats // Aug 8, 2016 at 2:34 PM

Get some decent Irish players in

  • 38 Belfats // Aug 8, 2016 at 2:37 PM

  • 39 martoon // Aug 8, 2016 at 2:43 PM

Although I’ve only seen him play twice my first impressions of Hayden is that he is a younger, better version of Colback (obviously not ginger either 🙂 ). He should be played in place of Colback and not alongside him.

  • 40 Wayayman // Aug 8, 2016 at 2:48 PM

Re that fast, lightwieght South African player: Did Rafa really say post-match that we’re busy in Africa & Brazil or is that website just full of it?

  • 41 jayphoto // Aug 8, 2016 at 2:49 PM

@Graeme – aye it was! was a joke! Just always makes me laugh that at one point in Belgium, chancel was asked when his birthday was and he himself was 3 years younger than he thought 🙂

  • 42 toontaff2 // Aug 8, 2016 at 2:50 PM

Was I the only one who had Hayden down as player of the season?
Any Welsh lads out there waiting to be signed – Robson-Kanu – free, Chris Gunter – unfortunately right, not left back, Simon Church with MK dons – maybe Taffy Dummett can have a word.
