Newcastle Make An Approach For Anderlecht Striker

12:22 pm, Thursday, August 11th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 22 Comments

The Telegraph is reporting that Newcastle United are interested in signing Anderlecht striker Idrissa Sylla, according to a report.

The 25 year-old only joined Anderlecht from French club Le Mans last summer and seemed to have a mediocre first season in terms of goal-scoring – he scored only 9 goals.

Idrissa Sylla

25 year-old Anderlecht striker Idrissa Sylla

He is often referred to as “Waddle” because his style is very similar to that of former Newcastle and England great Chris Waddle, who played on the wing.

Sylla came through the Le Mans Academy before he left for Belgium club Zulte Waregem in 2013.

He was born in Guinea and Rafa Benitez is trying to sign another striker before the transfer window closes on August 31st.

We seem to be in the same position as last year at this time and lack enough proven goalscorer in the squad.

Newcastle seem to be enquiring about a number of strikers and are expected to sign at least one before August 31st but which one it will be we don’t know.

Last season Sylla scored only 9 goals in 39 appearances for Anderlecht so he is hardly a prolific goalscorer.

Anderlecht came in third in the Belgian Pro League last season behind Gent and Champions Club Brugge.

While at Zulte Waregem he made 63 appearances with 18 goals and he has played 14 times for Guinea with a couple of goals and made his International debut versus Cameroon in May 2012.

Looking at his stats he doesn’t seem like he scores too many goals.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

    Jib
No sunshine uve pushed the Insigne story a few times since it cropped up…trust me Ive read comments. If u cant keep track of ur meaning bud how can anyone else?

Though ur recent spat with BandB is because shes called u on it after u slapped down someone else for doing something very similar…u could of course own it hold ur hands up and say u got swept up in the Insigne story but not quite ur style is it

Ah well u do u…think most are well aware of u these days

Jib Jibberish – whilst not really following the Olympics I’ve noticed there is some ladies rugby being shown.
Being a rugby man can you not comment on that and maybe join a ladies rugby forum – where I’m sure your rugby knowledge will be more acceptable than your football input on here.
You need to change your game.

We desperately need another target man upfront. Last time in the championship we Carroll & hardwood. If I recall correctly, we had lion best.

This time we have perez & gayle. Two similar attackers, in the sense small fast, make runs but can’t hold up play. Only target man we have is mitrovic, need another one for a perfect combination.

I seriously doubt we could land Insigne of Napoli. He would be amazing for us but being in The Championship I doubt we stand a chance of pulling that miracle off.

On this bloke from Anderlecht, he doesn’t score enough does he. Though he does look strong and is tall. If he plays similar to waddle though he might be good for us, but I doubt he is half as good as waddle was.

Come on we need creative guys as we have none in the team.

Team for Saturday should hopefully line up as:

    Selz
    Janmaat, Mbemba, lascelles, dummett
    Hayden, Shelvey
    Ritchie, Diame, Sissoko
    Gayle

Hopefully rafa shows some guts after the shocking display against Fulham

    Jib Jibberish – poor retort.

You could busy your time in a more productive manner by getting involved in the King Percy Dance Club – newly formed by a trio of dancers identified earlier by Jail.

You could pay homage to your man King Percy by perfecting his dance routines and share your experiences with other dolts and dopes.

Whilst I’m not really up to date in modern “street talk” I’ll give it a try – here goes.

    @Our Toon

I don’t agree with the team mate. Not sure about bringing in Sissoko like that, much prefer to see Aarons. And as for full backs, Dummett imo is not a LB and Janmaat wouldn’t be my 1st choice. Prefer to see Sterry or Gamez.

  • 18 dazza // Aug 11, 2016 at 1:25 PM

How many did Mitro score at Anderlect? We need more quality than this lad.

Come on Rafa, surprise us with a big signing. Big wages. Give them a get out clause in case we don’t get promoted.

  • 19 jimmygscot // Aug 11, 2016 at 1:42 PM

    dazza

You are right we need better quality than this.

A big signing is required. Rafa has almost completely rebuilt the team but i am not sure there is much quality.

  • 20 mactoon // Aug 11, 2016 at 2:07 PM

The reported interest in this type of player worries me. We need a prolific goalscorer, he isn’t prolific.

    Danny Ings for me
