19-year-old Adam Armstrong could still find himself sent out on loan this season, with Rafa Benitez keen to get him playing plenty of first team games to aid in his development.
But with Newcastle struggling to get their transfer targets through the door, whether Adam stays or goes could well depend on how well we do in the transfer market before September 1st.
Adam Armstrong at Fulham – could still go out on loan
Adam could be in the match-day squad of 18 for today’s game against Huddersfield Town and depending on how well the game is going in the second half, he could well make another appearance from the bench.
Armstrong had an excellent loan spell and scored 20 goals in 40 appearances for League One Coventry City last season, and they would just love to take him back on loan this season too.
But Benitez has yet to make a decision on the local lad who is an England U-19 International striker:
“I said to him that he will continue here and we will make a decision.”
“We have to consider each individual, and we have to think about our young players.”
“We have signed an extension for Rolando Aarons.”
“We need to think about the future, not just that we are doing something now, but also the future of the club is protected.”
“Adam is someone who will need to play. “He will need to learn from experienced players, and sometimes it is sensible to loan him out, but we will see.”
“At the moment it’s to see whether we will bring someone else in, then we will see.”
“We will change something today, and the two new players (Diame and Clark) will have a chance, for sure.”
The two new players, Mohamed Diame and Ciaran Clark, are in the squad for today’s home game against Huddersfield Town and it will be interesting to see if either of them start the game.
This is the team we thought could start against the Terriers today and would give us a lot more power and thrust than we showed against Fulham:
Sels
Janmaat Hanley Lascelles (c) Dummett
Hayden Diame
Ritchie Shelvey Aarons
Gayle
Subs: Darlow Clark Mbemba Colback Anita Perez Armstrong
What’s your team for today?

Comment #1Getting very tired of people constantly saying we or such and such a player is going to tear or rip up this league, end up on 100+ points, top scorers etc, etc.
It’s going to be a long hard slog and at the moment we have no effective playmakers and very limited creative resources.

have to agree with u,there’s not enough creation in this team at the minute,it was the first game last week but tbh, that game could of been anyone of last seasons games for me….not a lot changed….but the good thing was, it was the first game, the players need to step up and show some creative play….if they have it like.

Comment #3You tend to get a lack of creativity when you play with 3 defensive midfielders who only play backwards and sideways. Fulham only had to defend against four players, Gayle, Perez, Ritchie and Janmaat.

Comment #4I’d go with that side but start Mbemba over hanley as Huddersfield do have good pace up front.
Would love to see Armstrong start but now likely another 20 or so minutes off the bench

That’s what I said to the lads after last weeks game – continuation of last season – passed it sideways hoofed it long, sloppy in defence.
Ito be honest if Sissoko is fit I would play him with Diame in midfield.
My team: Sels or Darlow – both don’t ring me with confidence in the air/six yard box.
Fullbacks: another problem area but i’ll go for Dummett/Clark and Janmaat..
Centre Halves: Lascalles and Mbemba
Midfield: Sissoko, Diame, Hayden, Ritchie and Anita or Colback
Gayle and Perez
Struggling to find two forward as Perez and Gayle to much the same – lightweight.
Believe it or not might of put Riviere up front as I think we need a little bit of presence upfront which we sadly lack.
but what do I know just a mere supporter who will be there today – thinking of wearing my TOON army kilt today

Comment #6The Mag have gone pretty adventurous with their team – it is the Benitez favourite 4-2-3-1 formation.

You do realise that, even counting only one of anita or colback, you have selected 12 players? We shoulf definitely win with that 😀
