Middlesbrough Try To Hijack Newcastle Deal

11:23 pm, Saturday, August 13th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 38 Comments

Losing our first two games of the season is not exactly going to help us in getting good players to the club before the end of August.

And today the People are reporting that Premier League club Middlesbrough have made a late bid to try to gazump Newcastle’s season-long loan move for Brendan Galloway of Everton.

brendan-galloway

Brendan Galloway – coming to Newcastle on loan?

The Smoggies have matched Newcastle’s terms to take Brendan Galloway on loan to the Teesside club for the coming season.

That would give Brendan the chance of playing Premier League football on loan next season, rather than in the second division with Newcastle.

It seems that Middlesbrough have suffered some injury problems in defense and manager Aitor Karanka has moved in for the impressive 20 year-old defender.

The good news for Newcastle is that Ronald Koeman will probably be loath to lend out one of his top young players to a Premier League rival, much the same as Rafa Benitez will not want to loan out young Adam Armstrong to a Championship club.

There is also likely to be some kind of detailed agreement in place between Newcastle and Everton on the loan deal.

Koeman is trying to bring in some defensive replacements before allowing young Galloway to make the move to Tyneside.

Newcastle are said to be hopeful of closing the deal next week.

We shall see.

Always an enjoyable occasion watching Pardew get beat.

  • 4 Belfast // Aug 13, 2016 at 11:36 PM

Ed pushes the gremlins button 1 hour before kick off and then it’s bedlam.

  • 5 Belfast // Aug 13, 2016 at 11:39 PM

Tsunki you where a sensible poster for a two hour period this afternoon. It was awful.

  • 6 Belfast // Aug 13, 2016 at 11:45 PM

Boro signed a left back a couple of days ago and their first choice left back signed a new contract. So sounds like a spoof to me.

  • 7 Belfast // Aug 13, 2016 at 11:53 PM

Keeping the place ticking over here.

Could be a perfect moment for Jesper to slip back in while I’m manning the gates??

  • 8 Mister Tuff // Aug 14, 2016 at 12:05 AM

Moanster – you are such a clot – if I’ve been saying the same as you how am I am hypocrite.
I’ve voiced concerns about the team on loads of occasions – you need to pay attention.

Linking you to the King Percy Dance Club is not picking a fight it’s taking the piss.

“Yo get down and do dem funky moves”.

Is incompetence transmissible? I’m just thinking about our signings, seeing our results….Rafa is working closely with Charnley, every day it seems. I can’t help but wonder…

  • 10 jimmysmith // Aug 14, 2016 at 12:36 AM

Is bad luck transmissible? Charnley doesn’t look like he’d have much luck with women to be honest, and you know what they say, “unlucky in love, unlucky”. Could explain things.

  • 11 The overrated Frenchman // Aug 14, 2016 at 12:44 AM

Jimmy, you make your own luck. Or at least we do, and I know that because Mike Ashley said it.

  • 12 FollowFollow // Aug 14, 2016 at 1:01 AM

Don’t worry folks. We’re over the worst. We played long and far too slow for one and a half games. In the second half today we shortened it and Ritchie influenced a quickening of the pace. That takes some doing with the dawdlers Janmaat and Shelvey. Rafa is a quick learner and will adapt.

  • 13 Munster Mag // Aug 14, 2016 at 1:48 AM

Tuff u stupid gobshite i explained that rafa had weaknesses when he came here and these have been amply demonstrated in most of our games. But for some stupid reason you claim i have an interest in pardew. You stupid halfwit. Go and join Jail in the ” i know very little about football” department. Since when did it become a crime to question rafa and then see the actual issues i raised happen on the pitch. Go learn the game and stop laughing at Jib or Bobby or whomever with your silly nonsense.

The relegation before last, what the squad lacked in quality was made up with by spirit and mentally. This relegation was always going to be different. The squad was rotten to the core and Rafa has had to sort that along with a number of other club structural issues.

The fact is it isn’t sorted, that mentally and spirit grows over time and will hopefully grow as the first 11 become a team, Rafa nailed it in the interview with Holloway, this is not us, the first part of the season will be a lot of countering opposition tactics before the team can start to be more dominant, something that will come with that understanding and hopefully the spirit and mentality.

  • 15 Munster Mag // Aug 14, 2016 at 1:57 AM

Overrated.. Sadly this has nothing to do with charnley or ashley both of whom are doing fine. Its all about Rafa. We cant make a full judgement about him yet, until he buys yet more players. What we can say is that he is a defensive manager first and foremost and this has been hugely obvious since he arrived. The hope is that he will get more powerful and creative players and unleash us from his 4231 defensive approach with anita playing anywhere bar goalie. Time will tell but his approach is a little worrying i think. Lets hope for the best.

  • 16 Offkey // Aug 14, 2016 at 1:57 AM

    I’m still positive

  • 17 Munster Mag // Aug 14, 2016 at 2:00 AM

Offkey this isnt la liga mate. We worry about countering other teams tactics?? What happened to tearing into teams like Huddersfield at home, when you have bought some of the best players in that division and have spent 50 million??

  • 18 Offkey // Aug 14, 2016 at 2:03 AM

Whilst other teams have signed a lot of players as well, our team was rotten…..and that rot was set in a long time ago by those running the club

  • 19 lesh // Aug 14, 2016 at 2:08 AM

    Brutoon

You forgot to mention that Anita’s probably responsible for the Zico virus as well as the demise of Newcastle United!

    Get a grip.

  • 20 lesh // Aug 14, 2016 at 2:14 AM

What’s behind Forestieri’s refusal to travel today? Could he be pushing for a move somewhere?

  • 21 posada // Aug 14, 2016 at 3:20 AM

Shocked by that. Selection, tactics and formation made no sense at all.
On recruitment. Not impressed by any of the new players apart from Richie. That’s the biggest worry for me.

  • 22 posada // Aug 14, 2016 at 3:28 AM

We only have one player at the club who can call himself a midfield player. Jack Colback.

Toite – In the Q for the exit.
Shelvey – Can’t or won’t track back and defend.
Hayden – Can only defend. He’s essentially a defender.
Diame – Not sure what he is.
    Saivet – ?
Anita – Can only defend and too light weight.

To be a midfield player you need to be able to attack and defend in equal measure.
Hate the term AM it means he can’t defend.
Hate the term DM it means he can’t attack.

Colback gets a bit of stick on here. Has done well depending on who his partner is in the middle.
We beat Spurs 5-1 with him in there.

  • 23 expatmag // Aug 14, 2016 at 3:55 AM

Dont know whether it has been mentioned earlier but that lad Forrestieri wasnt part of Sheff. Wed. Squad for tbeir match at Norwich today.

Jamestoon reckons his agent was at SJP yesterday.

  • 24 jimmysmith // Aug 14, 2016 at 4:13 AM

Saivet can go, but that midfield group has a decidedly Championship ring to it, if you take Tiote and Sissoko out of it. If Rafa is going to stick with two DM’s then Tiote and Colback in tandem with Sissoko as the AM and the others as capable reserves looks to me our best bet. He needs to keep them both. Ritchie and a starting left winger to swing them over for Mitrovic, with Perez and Aarons in reserve, and a starting left back. The title winning team we all thought we had is still within reach, just not one with real midfield finesse. That may have to wait another season.

  • 25 Jail for Ashley // Aug 14, 2016 at 5:17 AM

    Jimmy,
It would be difficult to buy a PL midfield while in the Championship

  • 26 jimmysmith // Aug 14, 2016 at 5:25 AM

Well that’s right Jail, so lets hold onto the EPL players we have, if we can.

  • 27 Jail for Ashley // Aug 14, 2016 at 5:30 AM

    Jimmy,
We had very few in the first place and that’s why we got relegated. Wijnaldum was determined to go as is Sissoko

  • 28 Jail for Ashley // Aug 14, 2016 at 5:34 AM

    Continued.
Taylor and Collocini should have gone years ago and Cisse has been disinterested and injured since Pardew played him on the right. It’s no good people moaning about Hayden now when they were raving about him a month ago. It’s no good going in to full on doom and gloom mode when we have a brand new team obviously still struggling to put the managers ideas in to practice. If he hadn’t of come in things would be a whole lot worse.

  • 29 jimmysmith // Aug 14, 2016 at 5:41 AM

I think we have a few who can hold their own in the Premiership, Sissoko, Tiote, Janmaat, Mbemba, Krul, Colback, Shelvey, Mitrovic, Perez, Ritchie now, and a few that could have more than held their own in the Championship this season, Cisse, Collo, Obertan, and of course Widjnaldum and Townsend, who were very good, though I accept hard to keep. Nonetheless, losing the lions share of your better talent would smack of not trying hard enough or even being a bit deluded.

  • 30 jimmysmith // Aug 14, 2016 at 5:43 AM

I’m not moaning. I’m largely sympathetic. Just interested.

  • 31 Jail for Ashley // Aug 14, 2016 at 6:09 AM

Not saying you were moaning Jimmy, you’re just airing your views, some of the comments yesterday were just nonsense. We’re heading for league two??

  • 32 Jail for Ashley // Aug 14, 2016 at 6:10 AM

    Jimmy,
Unless Obretorooon was willing to take a one year deal he’s better off in Ligue one or two.

  • 33 cyprus // Aug 14, 2016 at 6:58 AM

Why we aren’t playing at the level we are expecting I don’t know

Not my words. Come on Rafa, figure it out.

  • 34 The overrated Frenchman // Aug 14, 2016 at 7:16 AM

Jimmy, would any of our squad based on form from last season and so far in this one be a regular starter at a Premiership club? Apart from Ritchie and not including Sissoko I doubt it.
On Hayden, I agree he doesn’t look like a natural midfielder, even if he thinks he is (Wenger didn’t think he was). I’d be playing him in defence at least as a trial. You can’t say our defence is the finished article as is.

  • 35 jimmysmith // Aug 14, 2016 at 7:27 AM

I think the players were ok, but the circumstance that brought them together was badly floored. You need to create the correct platform for the players to gel and perform and we certainly didn’t do that. I’m reminded of Klopp commenting on our plight last season, “no one knows why they are down there.”

  • 36 jimmysmith // Aug 14, 2016 at 7:27 AM

    flawed

  • 37 jazzyp // Aug 14, 2016 at 7:30 AM

    Overrated Frenchmen

On yesterday’s performance mate were not even Championship standard.
I just don’t know what the hell has happened to our beloved club. There is just no direction on the pitch or any way of breaking a side down.
As i said last night lets not forget we were playing Huddersfield town……Not Liverpool or Southampton But Huddersfield town.
The first half we were clueless at best and were rightly booed off the park. Second half we picked up the pace and offered a bit more going forward, But still an absolute shambles
