Rafa Laments Too Many Mistakes – Only One Positive

Rafa Benitez has his work cut out to turn things around at Newcastle and get things on track for possible promotion next May.

But the manager is not panicking with two defeats in the two games we have played so far in the Championship – games in which the Newcastle side has not played well.

Rafa said this after the game:

“We were not expecting this performance, we knew they could be difficult to organize and break down.”

“They are well organised and were able to counter attack. We still didn’t play at the level we wanted to play.

“In the second half we improved a lot,  but it still wasn’t enough. We are really disappointed because we did not play as a lot of people expected us to.”

“I have seen the team doing well in training sessions so now we go into a game and show the same personality and quality we have seen in those sessions.”

“We have not seen that in the first two games and we made too many mistakes in possession. ” “Without the ball we were making movements we don’t usually do.”

“There were too many mistakes. We have to show character and confidence with the quality we have.”

“The players on the pitch were trying. It’s not a question to say we are missing this or that.” “We are working with these players and when we train and play they can do much better.”

“Why we aren’t playing at the level we are expecting I don’t know. We need to show character and confidence, and play the system.”

“The only positive we had today was the fans . They were behind the team and supported them, we just didn’t do well.”

Next up is Reading on Wednesday night but Newcastle will have to pay a lot better than they did in the two first halves we have played so far this season.

We have looked poor so far this season and were 1-0 down at half time in both games with those goals each coming in stoppage time of the first half.

Newcastle have to start that game and play an awful lot better against Reading if w are stop our run of defeats at two.

It’s been a disastrous start to the season – at least so far.

I think its enough. we need to sack RB. Absolutely clueless, just like SM before him. Too defensively , we shouldn’t really be seating back and counter attack . FFS we should be hiring Managers who have the balls to attack and innovate instead of RB.

Said this before. Anita is the reason we struggle. He joined us after we get 5th place, and since that onwards we are relegation battler and now in the championship.

Dummett is useless, Janmaat has no end product when he’s up the wind and Anita seems to either run into trouble or get pushed off the ball with far too much ease. We are desperate for Mitro to return, little boys up top won’t cut it in the championship against the big lads. First time in the Gallowgate end yesterday with my first season ticket … Fans were class! Rafaaaaaaaaa Benitezzzzz!

i never judge a season until at least 5 games in, due to varying levels of match fitness amongst teams etc. This is made worse for us as we have an entirely new set of opponents, virtually new squad, new mentality and new captain.

This isn’t going to happen overnight- stick by the team!
