With Few Clubs Showing Interest – Star Player Could Still Stay

1:19 pm, Saturday, August 13th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 22 Comments

Sissoko has been pleading for Real Madrid to come in for him over the last week, but the Madrid news outlet MARCA on August 3rd reported that while they were aware of all the media speculation surrounding Sissoko and the Spanish giants, their understanding was that Real Madrid were simply not interested in signing the Newcastle midfielder.

Here’s the report we put out at that time.

Moussa Sissoko – his dream club may have to change again
Real Madrid are reported again to be not interested

And today MARCA have repeated the claim that their sources at the club  are telling them Real are simply not interested in signing Moussa Sissoko and never have been.

Here is a portion of their report today:

“Moussa Sissoko may have insisted that a move to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu would be difficult to turn down, but Real Madrid have denied that they have ever been interested in the midfielder.”

“After an impressive showing at Euro 2016, it had been expected the Frenchman would easily find a move away from the relegated club, but that has not been the case.”

“With former Real Madrid coach Rafael Benitez warning teams interested in the 26-year-old to make a bid before the transfer deadline, sources have told MARCA that Los Blancos have never even considered the player, despite headlines claiming otherwise.”

Rafa Benitez asked that teams interested in bidding for Moussa Sissoko put in their offers early and that Newcastle may not sell later this month.

This is what MARCA today have quoted Rafa as saying yesterday (it’s accurate):

“In football you receive offers but you must only sell if it is the right offer, we currently do not have such an offer and if someone thinks they will wait until August 31, I can promise them it will be difficult.”

There have been no satisfactory offers received for Moussa so far and it does appear that Newcastle will hold out for the full £35M for the big Frenchman.

That being the case there must now be a strong possibility that Moussa will still be at Newcastle on September 1st.

That may be difficult, because he’s already burned his bridges at Newcastle with his stupid comments in the press, at least as far as the Newcastle fans are concerned.

Comments welcome.

If he stays which is likely IMHO unless a big team gets an injury and are desperate then we still need a top powerful striker and Galloway at left back

    I reckon diame should start.

Not bothered either way tbh. If he stays benitez will get the best out of him if he goes then good luck.
I for one won’t be booing him as I don’t believe in booing our own players which I think can have a negative effect on the team and atmosphere.
Let’s be honest he’s good on his day whenever that is of course!

For what it’s worth Radio Newcastle (95.4fm) are covering pre -match and match commentary. From 2pm.

  • 9 Spoof // Aug 13, 2016 at 1:37 PM

I expect Diame will start as our attacking central midfielder replacing Perez but I do expect Sissoko to be on the benCH.

  • 10 Blofal // Aug 13, 2016 at 1:45 PM

    Sissoko won’t be fit.

And it’s too risky with the crowd. We need them to get behind the team but there will be a large section booing him every time he touches the ball which really doesn’t help the team at all.

get in!! would love forestieri. desperate for that spark which shelvey has failed so badly at on his 80k a week.

Diame is not really an attacking midfielder, he’s played there a bit but more as a central midfielder or defensive midfielder.

  • 15 ShirebrookToon // Aug 13, 2016 at 1:56 PM

Please let that be true about forestieri

In this league we should be playing 442. It’s all about going for it and scoring goals. It’s not a technical, tactical league. Get it forward, get it in the net. That’s why we did well last time and why Hughton has done well with every teem he’s managed in the championship .

I have to admit that I don’t know too much about Forestieri, but I always thought that he was a striker who played off a target man, with Rafa preferring a 4-2-3-1 I don’t know where he would play, I suppose he could play on either wing or as a number 10 but either way he would be played out of position, is he big/strong enough to play the Gayle role as a lone striker, I doubt that he is so where would he play and how would we play with him.

Don’t get me wrong as I’m not saying we shouldn’t sign him as I’ve said I don’t know that much about him, but from the little that I do know he doesn’t seem to fit into the normal Rafa criteria.

Wait apparently Ritchie had a knock so fair enough…

    Janmaat Mbemba Lascelles Dummett
    Shelvey Hayden
    Anita Diame Aarons
