Rafa Benitez Pours Praise On Unlikely Player

Rafa Benitez has tonight praised the professionalism of Yoan Gouffran, who works hard every day in training and tonight he ran his socks off for the Newcastle cause, even though he knows he could be leaving Newcastle United before the end of this month.

Yoan was a surprise starter on the wing and he was involved in two of the goals in the 4-1 win over Reading at St James’s Park tonight.

When he was replaced late in the game, he got a good round of applause from the appreciative fans.

But Benitez included Yoan tonight because he thought the former Bordeaux forward could contribute on one of the wings and we have to think he has been impressive in training.

This is what Rafa said about the Frenchman tonight:

“Until the end of the transfer window, it is quite complicated to keep everybody focused,” “But we are doing what we have to do every week.”

“We were talking about Gouffran, and maybe he was thinking about offers that could come, but he had to play and he did really well.”

“It is not easy for any player to think ‘I have to be really concentrated and focused when maybe tomorrow I will leave’, but you have seen examples in the Premier League of players playing one game and then leaving the following day for another team.”

“I’ve said a lot that these players are quite professional. “Every training session they are working hard, even the players who know they might leave.”

“He is a good professional, a good player, and we needed a bit of experience in the wide areas. I think he did well.”

Good deserved praise there from Rafa Benitez.

Maybe Yoan’s hard work could pay off in the Championship – we thought he would be a good squad player this season for Newcastle in the final year of his four year contract.

But he could still leave the club in the next two weeks.

He can do a job this season when called upon. This is probably his level anyway. Problem though, if we want to make anything from him he will have to leave now or free next yr. Im sure he was only a cheeky 1-2 mil buy, maybe worth keeping?

Decent squad player for this league.

Gouffran’s adopted Sissoko’s behaviour – bust a gut and play your best to interest potential buyers.

Best of luck to the lad.
