It looks like 27 year-old Siem De Jong will get his wish and join his brother Luuk at PSV, as it appears his loan deal to the Dutch club for the season is going to happen.
Sources in Holland have told the Chronicle that his medical at the club will take place in the next day or two and the loan deal should be completed over the weekend.
Siem de Jong in action against Liverpool last season
Siem signed on from Ajax two years ago for £6M, but he’s had a bad time of it at Newcastle and has picked up a lot of different injuries.
At the moment he is out with a hamstring problem.
Newcastle would even have been willing to allow Siem to leave on a permanent basis this summer, but with his injury record over the last two years it’s hardly surprising that PSV want to take him for a season and see how he does.
If Siem does well and can stay fit, there could be other clubs who come in for him next summer, including his former club Ajax.
But at the moment there have to be questions about Siem’s fitness.
When Siem was signed from Ajax it looked like a good signing and Rafa Benitez has said there is no doubt about the player’s quality, it’s just that he always seems to pick up injuries.
That’s the test for Siem next season – to stay fit – because if he can stay healthy and have a full season in Holland he’s a good player and that will show through in the Eredivisie.
Siem signed a five year deal when he arrived at the club in 2014, so he still has three years left on his contract, but it will be a surprise if he ever plays for Newcastle again.
The loan deal will give PSV an option to buy the player at the end of the season.
What do you think?

Comment #2Most technically gifted player at the club but would get out muscled in an under 13 league.
We need pace, strength as well as guile

Comment #3Off subject but after all the time and effort to sign Hanley and on the assumption because of that then he must be good does anybody know what has happened here.
Why chase after him if he is maybe not up to it.
I know couple of Villa supporters and they say we better get used to mistakes by Clarke

Comment #4would be disappointed with this. I’ve always enjoyed him whenever he has played. he’s a smart footballer, which sets him apart from most of our others.
but, his injury record is appalling; if we get a decent replacement, then fine

Comment #5What a sick note this guy is. Shame as he was good back in his homeland. We should get rid as players as injury prone as this seldom play regularly all of a sudden. Once a sick note always a sick note.
We need pace and strength and Siem has neither, sell and replace.

Comment #6Anyone else just love the home kit this season, wish they’d just keep to that sort of design with stripes on the back with no plain black or white panel on the back, think the white socks with black hoops make it so nice as well.

Comment #7Jamestoon- yeah i really like the home strip. I think it’s the best one we’ve had in ages. Shame about the wonga sponsor though. It’s not as much what it represents that bothers me, but more the actual name ‘wonga’, it just sounds and looks stupid. Other than that nice kit.

Comment #9I honestly feel like I should be disappointed by this but I’m not. The reality is he has not performed or been able to play 90 minutes.
I think he lacks pace for the English game and is essentially a passenger which given the intensity is not an option.
If we could get what we paid, I think we’re laughing; however if he stays, I would happily be proven wrong as I was excited when we first signed him.

Comment #13Stupid signing. Nearly as bad as Thauvin and Riviere.
The player and his former club probably could not believe their luck when Charmless, Carr and the rest of the Goon Show turned up waving the NUFC cheque book.
