So Palace have signed Benteke… There are also rumors of them signing Loic Remy…. What would people think about taking Connor Wickham? He can score goals in the championship… When he was on loan to Shef Wed he scored 9 goals in 17 apps…
or maybe put a bid in for Leonardo Ulloa …

  • 2 manxpie // Aug 20, 2016 at 7:05 PM

i always thought gayle was more of the owen type of finisher/poacher but he’s got a hell of a shot on him
about time we bought a player that doesn’t have a pea roller of a shot rivi,de jong, cabella all shocking

  • 3 Jail for Ashley // Aug 20, 2016 at 7:06 PM

I’d have Whickham on loan in a heartbeat but he’s not good enough for the PL so would not want him permanently signed. I’d have Nugent as well but he will want to have his last days in the sun with boro.

  • 4 NUFCPaul // Aug 20, 2016 at 7:06 PM

I’d take Wickham if we were struggling to find another striker, especially if he made a contribution to us being promoted. Imagine the look on the Mackem scum’s faces if he helped us up after they let him go? Even better if we swapped leagues!

SMBs, Smog Monsters and Palace to go down (bye bye Townsend, any regrets?) would be ideal.

  • 5 msk21dec // Aug 20, 2016 at 7:12 PM

So we drop janmaat and start winning. Mmmm

  • 6 Jail for Ashley // Aug 20, 2016 at 7:14 PM

    goal tino,
Jeeezus, Sels doesn’t look good at all in the fifty second clip 😮

  • 7 manxpie // Aug 20, 2016 at 7:15 PM

wouldn’t want wickham we’ve got mitro who is of the same calibre (but better) plus he’d cost about 15 mill

  • 8 Nufc-83 // Aug 20, 2016 at 7:17 PM

Nufc78 I would be delighted with either players you mention but doubt they would drop as they would have prem teams wanting them if they became available (as with Richie guess you can’t be sure though).

  • 9 Jail for Ashley // Aug 20, 2016 at 7:18 PM

It’s all very well saying we’ve got Mitro but we need a back up striker in the same mould for when the lunatic is injured and suspended, we have no one at the moment who can really come on and change things round when we’ve ran out of ideas. Fulham was the perfect example.

  • 10 nufc786 // Aug 20, 2016 at 7:19 PM

What about either Rickie Lambert (Back up for Mitro) or Danny Ings? I know Ings does have some injury concerns though

  • 11 Jail for Ashley // Aug 20, 2016 at 7:19 PM

Not sure if too many PL clubs would want Whickham anymore, he hardly set the league alight last year.

  • 12 BandB // Aug 20, 2016 at 7:20 PM

Good to see the mood changing.

Also good to see the scourge of fair-weather fans and the champion of rating fans by their postcode has reverted supporting his own home town club now they are top of the league, and we are relegated, and by his estimation these days, rubbish.

  • 13 nufc786 // Aug 20, 2016 at 7:22 PM

Against Cheltenham in the cup game, I’d have Janmaat play on the wing with gamez or Mbabu at Rb

  • 14 Shadow_Shearer // Aug 20, 2016 at 7:23 PM

I’m very thankful we a number nine who can actully hit a ball on his left foot. If that was cisse, he would have put it on his right side, opened up his body, tried to curl it in the far corner. This would have given the defenders enough time to get back & the keeper to read where the shot was going

  • 15 Jail for Ashley // Aug 20, 2016 at 7:24 PM

Rickie Lambert is a good shout but like Nugent he will want his last day in the sun with a chance of playing at Old Trafford rather than bench warming for us. Danny Ings would be an excellent shout but would be first choice over Mitro

  • 16 nufc786 // Aug 20, 2016 at 7:28 PM

    Jail for Ashley
Any ideas for Wingers? I know Gouffran can do a job especially on away days in securing the left flank but when at home we really need to blitz teams away

  • 17 manxpie // Aug 20, 2016 at 7:28 PM

aye jail but for the kind of money he’d cost there must be much better wouldn’t mind this bas dost fella 6.5″ and knows where the goal is

  • 18 Munster Mag // Aug 20, 2016 at 7:28 PM

Jail, good bet. I should have put on more. Might do yet.

  • 19 Jail for Ashley // Aug 20, 2016 at 7:28 PM

Basically we need a striker with presence who doesn’t mind being an understudy to Mitro, this is where the search gets tricky.

  • 20 Jail for Ashley // Aug 20, 2016 at 7:29 PM

    Pay 15M for Knockeart.

  • 21 Jail for Ashley // Aug 20, 2016 at 7:30 PM

Doubt you’ll get 10-1 now though.

  • 22 Jail for Ashley // Aug 20, 2016 at 7:30 PM

Barry Fry said he was having a few quid so I thought I would as well.

  • 23 Shadow_Shearer // Aug 20, 2016 at 7:39 PM

I agree we need a striker with presence. But an understudy to mitrovic, is to tricky.
Better off when someone who can rotate with Mitrovic. Perfect strike force. Two big men & two small men
    Mitrovic gayle
    Big man & perez
    Armstrong now and again

  • 24 Belfast // Aug 20, 2016 at 7:46 PM

    Will Grigg!!

  • 25 gonufc (Newcastle United Sports Direct Advertising Club) // Aug 20, 2016 at 7:48 PM

Apologies if this has already been answered but did Sissoko come on as a sub today?!?!

  • 26 Belfast // Aug 20, 2016 at 7:51 PM

He wasn’t in the squad. You won’t be seeing Sissoko playing for us until after the transfer window is shut.

  • 27 Belfast // Aug 20, 2016 at 7:53 PM

Hopefully there’s truth in the Inter Milan rumours, but I doubt it.

  • 28 jazzyp // Aug 20, 2016 at 7:58 PM

Ollie Burke is worth a shout from Forest if were after a attacking midfielder.
I am sure Richie could give him a good heads up both being Scottish.

Gibbs is still not getting any game time at Arsenal and would solve the left back position.
Gotta a feeling Knockaert is going to haunt us next saturday as he was head and shoulders above every one again today

  • 29 Jail for Ashley // Aug 20, 2016 at 8:03 PM

We’re you drunk the other night, why do you want us to lose.

  • 30 Jib // Aug 20, 2016 at 8:04 PM

Possibly the reason Janmaat was dropped

Before he signed for us he nearly went to Napoli

    They have revived their interest

Watford and West Ham also interested

  • 31 beefman13 // Aug 20, 2016 at 8:05 PM

Pleased with the win, hard fought, hanging on but we got the three, thing is the team sheet today looked for me so uninspiring, nowt to get the juices flowing, it’s gonna b a long season, hold tight.

  • 32 WWSBRD // Aug 20, 2016 at 8:06 PM

Wickham in a town shirt? No thank u

Diame -today – was that Sissoko with a end product?

  • 35 Hail Wor Ashley // Aug 20, 2016 at 8:13 PM

I’d honestly rather go for Crouch for a couple of million than some of the names suggested.

Know exactly what we get with him, good guy to have around the place too.

Yeah he’s not fashionable, but if you want somebody to compete with Mitro for the target man role, in the Champ you won’t come by much more experience and better than him.

Guaranteed to chip in with a few.

  • 36 WWSBRD // Aug 20, 2016 at 8:15 PM

    Id prefer Diouf

  • 37 manxpie // Aug 20, 2016 at 8:16 PM

might see abby clancy in a toon shirt too

  • 38 Jail for Ashley // Aug 20, 2016 at 8:24 PM

I’d have Crouch as well, still got a goal in him, well liked and very experienced, I think he’d be good to have around the place as well.

  • 39 Jail for Ashley // Aug 20, 2016 at 8:25 PM

    Which one?

  • 40 Jib // Aug 20, 2016 at 8:26 PM

    Abby in black and white

  • 41 neverwin // Aug 20, 2016 at 8:28 PM

    Sels – very scary

  • 42 GeordieTwo // Aug 20, 2016 at 8:33 PM

Does anybody know if I remembered to tell Kets not to overinflate his girlfriends? It’s says right on the bottom of the left foot “pressure not to exceed 15 psi or dangerous off-gassing may occur!”

  • 43 GeordieTwo // Aug 20, 2016 at 8:36 PM

Would rather have Ulloa than Wickham but that’s not saying much at all. Ulloa might get you 8 goals a season. With Wickham it might be five depending on playing time.

  • 44 GeordieTwo // Aug 20, 2016 at 8:37 PM

Not that I’m itk about Kets’s girlfriends or anything. I just can’t see an actual girl being interested in his FM experiences.

  • 45 GeordieTwo // Aug 20, 2016 at 8:38 PM

Crouch too old now. His pension benefits begin next year. We don’t have a shirt that would fit him either.

  • 46 WWSBRD // Aug 20, 2016 at 8:39 PM

El Hadjiof course haha nar Mame, I like Crouch alright but age is getting the best of him and am not certain he’d be able to cope with the number of games he would be required for over a full championship season

  • 47 Jail for Ashley // Aug 20, 2016 at 8:40 PM

Is that the spitting, snarling one?

  • 48 WWSBRD // Aug 20, 2016 at 8:42 PM

El Hadji is aye Mame is the other Stoke striker

Not sure El Hadji is still playing tbh

  • 49 JamesToon // Aug 20, 2016 at 8:51 PM

Just got back from Bristol. Very good win, defence was rock solid and everyone worked their socks off. Bristol fans were so bad

  • 50 Hail Wor Ashley // Aug 20, 2016 at 8:55 PM

Yeah, just think £2-3m to get 10 goals, somebody to keep Mitro on his toes who is generally seen as a top pro and good guy, it’d be a decent move allowing us to get the benefits of another good ST for this level with little outlay and little expectation of future things on his part should we return to PL, given he’s now 35, probably be retiring end of this season if not almost certainly end of next.

Our very own big awkward beanpole for opponents to contest with, we’ve come up against two 6ft5 STs so far, let’s one up them and get the best of the type in the country in recent times.

  • 51 Hail Wor Ashley // Aug 20, 2016 at 8:56 PM

Mame is Stoke’s leading ST, no chance.

  • 52 toontaff2 // Aug 20, 2016 at 8:59 PM

Sounded like we were not great but won on radio toon. That will do!
What did Ketsbia say, by the way =

  • 53 Toon Tang // Aug 20, 2016 at 8:59 PM

Buzzing off the win and the clean sheet like.

Still looking dodgy defencively though, one nil on another day to another team and thats a one-all game perhaps worse. Was watching on the b365 game board and it was dangerous attack, shot, attack, dangerous attack, corner, shot, attack for bristol in large parts of the second.

I know Rafa was just trying to grab the 3 but when Sels was supposedly as dodgy as he was it might be worth just continuing the attack till we bag a second for the cushion.

I tell thee what though, I can’t wait to see Gayle and Mitro up top. I reckon it could be fruitful. And especially in situations like today when it was tidal towards the end of the game.

  • 54 gorgonzola ( former Pecorino former to gorgonzola) // Aug 20, 2016 at 9:00 PM

Never wanted us to lose, If we play crap, there is no excuse sorry to say. I am so not sold on our core, I really hope Rafa is doing something about it. Can we get rid of Sissoko already so we can move on and get some fix the issues.

  • 55 WWSBRD // Aug 20, 2016 at 9:02 PM

    Ritchie was Bournemouth’s leading winger

  • 56 JamesToon // Aug 20, 2016 at 9:04 PM

I’d say our defence was rock solid today, Bristol didn’t really offer a threat, was more worried about Sels making a mistake

  • 57 Hail Wor Ashley // Aug 20, 2016 at 9:07 PM

    Crouch – £3m

    Brady – £12m

    Galloway – loan

    Sissoko – £25-30m

    SDJ – Loan

    Janmaat – £7-8m

    Krul – £5-7m

    Riviere – Curly Wurly

Keep one of Tiote or Saivet, depending on their own outlook.

  • 58 Hail Wor Ashley // Aug 20, 2016 at 9:13 PM

Yeah but he’d been with them a long time, on a comparatively low paying contract and they haven’t established themselves like Stoke who I imagine would turn us down in any case this late in the day for their no1 ST. We’d have to pay £15m+ in today’s market and he’d be away for African Nations. As I said, no chance.

  • 59 JamesToon // Aug 20, 2016 at 9:15 PM

Had a chat with Lascelles’ mum after the match, her son had a good game, tbh she’s quite attractive for her age 😉

  • 60 WWSBRD // Aug 20, 2016 at 9:22 PM

Hes not actually their no1 striker though and they are actively trying to buy another one pushing him further down the pecking order. As for price I dont care we are stupidly rich

As for ACoN he wouldnt be our only striker, pretty sure we’d manage for the few weeks he’d be away, Senegal arent all that good tbf

Thanks for the report from the game. It all rings true and is consistent with what I’ve seen of the performances so far. Gouffran cutting inside onto his right is so predictable and limiting.

  • 67 welshgeordie9 // Aug 20, 2016 at 9:39 PM

So what’s happened to Gamez, is he injured.

  • 68 geordie157 // Aug 20, 2016 at 9:44 PM

If janmaat does go, do we need another right back Anita, Gamez, Sterry and Mbabu can ask play there and Mbemba if needed.

Sels I’m not sure but it might just be a case of letting him settle in.

  • 69 geordie157 // Aug 20, 2016 at 9:47 PM

Didn’t get a ticket for the game today, so went and watched swindon vs port vale as I live in swindon, Alnwick, Streete and JJ Hooper all started for vale, nice to see some of our released players doing alright at a decent level.

  • 70 Belfast // Aug 20, 2016 at 9:51 PM

The big goalkeeper looks like a centre back asked to play in nets.

  • 71 JamesToon // Aug 20, 2016 at 9:56 PM

Have no idea mate, I remember seeing he was the very last one from our lot to leave the pitch at the end of the game, probably injured

We had four priority positions that needed strengthening before anyone left in the summer. CB, LB, LW & ST. We are still short in three of those positions and haven’t signed a LB or LW at all. It’s no surprise we were targeted down our left flank today when we were playing a striker at LW and a CB at left back. These should have been the first positions to be filled but still we wait….

  • 83 SUTTY1978 // Aug 20, 2016 at 10:27 PM

Jail, Steve McClaren used to have an inane grin every time we lost, that’s not too different from a smiley!

  • 84 jimmysmith // Aug 20, 2016 at 10:30 PM

Janmaat now, along with Sissoko, Tiote, De Jong all apparently set to follow Townsend, Widjnaldum, Collocini, Cisse and a few of the more obvious candidates out the door. I’m not sure there isn’t a side in the Championship and a few in the EPL that wouldn’t be desperately happy to take the whole lot of them. Losing that degree of quality in one go when you apparently don’t have to, does seem incredibly counterintuitive, but I do of course have far more faith in Rafa’s judgement than my own. It’s going to be a fascinating week in the transfer market, and on the pitch, with the much anticipated return of Mitro, and finally, kudos to Gayle. Excellent.

  • 85 Lee Charnley Bunga Party // Aug 20, 2016 at 10:35 PM

I just hope we do get the signings we need because if Janmaat, De Jong, Sissoko , Saviet and Tiote all want away and dont get their move what will their attitudes be like?

  • 86 Lee Charnley Bunga Party // Aug 20, 2016 at 10:37 PM

Liverpool fans online already turning on Klopp and we get called fickle FFS!!

  • 87 SUTTY1978 // Aug 20, 2016 at 10:37 PM

Jimmy, you only have to look at our bench today to see the dearth of talent . We have about 15 decent players plus the ones you mention that are leaving. If they go then we need a lot of quality players through the door in the next two weeks. We are certainly a weaker squad than last year.
The midfield/forward signings we have made seem to be doing well, the defensive ones, not so much

  • 88 SUTTY1978 // Aug 20, 2016 at 10:41 PM

This Sevilla / Espanyol game is quality #goalfest
Ben Yedder, who was linked with us previously has just netted on his debut

  • 89 BandB // Aug 20, 2016 at 10:50 PM

It is frustrating seeing our top players leave. But as a collective, they got relegated. Look in the scorebook.
Rafa’s added value in this division should come from his tactics and coaching. He can’t put lipstick on a pig and sell us hard as THE team to join right now.
His added value as a name, as a dream-weaver, will come if he gets us promoted again, when he can sell “come with me into Europe” to possible signings in the way your newly-promoted Championship manager usually can’t.

  • 90 jimmysmith // Aug 20, 2016 at 11:18 PM

BandB, I’ve long maintained that our best players were very probably the least of our problems, and that we simply didn’t have enough of them in the right positions, and so keeping them was our best bet and then allowing the four or five who were in their final year to see out their contracts in the lower level of the Championship under a top manager to then free up places in the roster just as we became better placed to strengthen as we went back up. But yeah, all those better players were at the core of the group that took us down, and the opposite is apparently going to happen, and possibly quite rightly when you consider the psychological toll on players when relegated, particularly ours when you add the previous difficult seasons too. Very interesting and big week ahead.

  • 91 tonetastic // Aug 20, 2016 at 11:26 PM

For the love of God why do we not play in our famous black and white stripes away when there is no colour clash. Surely the away strip should only be used when there is a colour clash. It’s probably all about money and selling the away strip. STOP IT!!!!!!!!! Wear our stripes with pride!!!!
