Lascelles, Diame, Colback, Clark And Gouffran Start

Bristol_City_FC.svgnufc-emblem

Rafa Benitez has just announced his team for the second away game of the season at Bristol City today and captain Jamaal Lascelles returns to the starting line-up and partners Chancel Mbemba at center-back.

Newcastle: Sels, Anita, Mbemba, Lascelles, Clark, Ritchie, Hayden, Colback, Gouffran, Diame, Gayle
Subs: Darlow Dummett, Sterry, Hanley, Shelvey, Aarons, Perez

Ciaran Clark keeps his place in the side but moves to left-back and a fit again Mohamed Diame comes back into the side, while Vurnon Anita keeps his place at right back.

There’s no Daryl Janmaat so maybe the rumors he will leave Newcastle this month are true.

Yoan Gouffran keeps his place after a good hard-working game on Wednesday night against Reading.

The two holding midfielders are Isaac Hayden and local lad Jack Colback, who comes back into the side in place of Shelvey who is on the bench.

Young local lad Jamie Sterry is on the bench presumably in place of Daryl Janmaat and he’s a very good right-back in the making.

This is what Rafa has said about today’s opponents:

“From all the reports we have from them we know they are doing well and are a team that play with confidence.”

“All the reports say they are a good team. They are physically strong and good at set-pieces, throw-ins and corners.”

“They are good at long balls and win second balls. They are a team that play with high tempo and it’ll be tough. We know it will be difficult.”

“We practiced on Friday and we don’t have too much time but we said that we have to be ready for a team with this type of approach.”

“They are a team who know what strengths they have.”

Almost seven fans in ten think we will win this game this afternoon.

Dont mind the playing of a CB at LB – should mean we are stronger in the air and hopefully at set pieces.

Perez needed to take the bench until he either stpes up or fades away – should have spent the summer in the gym.

It does highlight the areas where we are lacking though, Rafa will hopefully come through this week with what we need.

colback cant pass like shelvey, but will graft more…i guess thats why he’s in….use colback to get a foot hold in the game then maybe bring shelvey in later to create something.

Not a Clark hater, too early to judge, but I was at the game in midweek and he was deeply unimpressive. Not just the mistake. Seems weak in the air, didn’t seem up for it and didn’t even put the challenge in much of the time. As a result their CF managed at least half a dozen flick ons which could have been v dangerous. Nor do I remember a tackle.
Overall reminded me of Saylor in his gait and his being error prone, without Saylor’s redeeming features, such as winning headers and generally getting stuck in.
On what I’ve seen Lascalles every time.

agree with u,but just hope that it does not stagnate our football since i doubt goofy will venture too much up field and that will perhaps leave ritchie and diame as our only creative outlet and if city have them closely marked,i fear the worst.but i hope i’m totally wrong.strange how these away games instill uncertainty in within me.

Dummett is pretty bad tbf but Clarke is 100x worse so not at all impressed with him at lb!!

Goufffran is terrible and shouldn’t even be playing in league 2 let alone in our first team wish Aarons was starting but oh well the rest of the team in happy with so let’s do this!!!

With Colback playing, we will get overrun in midfield. Can’t remember many games where he has played that we have dominated in the middle of the pitch.
Would prefer Diame dropping back into his natural midfield position and Perez, Aarons or Armstrong at No.10

Shelvey will still be building his fitness. Put a lot of work in over the summer to improve his endurance and thus mobility over the 90, but it’ll take time before he can play many games in quick succession.

He started from a very low bar, had a body like chewed up bubblegum last season, in his early 20s as PL footballer that wasn’t good enough.

Hopefully we’ll see (hear) more of Diame today and Hayden puts in another solid all-action display.

    Sels
    Anita, Mbemba, Lascelles, Clark
    Hayden, Colback
    Ritchie Diame Gouffran
    Gayle

Suppose it will switch to 433 on the attack. Diame will push back to help out hayden & colback when defending. Well that’s what I feel is best. Box to box in that position.

There will be no online streams as no U.K or overseas T.V take 3:00pm championship games – best you can hope for is that a fan at the game will stream it via periscope.tv
Failing that it’s highlights on channel 5 at 9 tonight

Just come back from Greece, used a VPN service to access BBC and Sky. Caught Fulham game (unfortunately….)
As well as making me appear to be in the UK it also gives me the options of USA, Canada or Aussie. So are there any expats out there who could arise of any free to air services in those countries that show matches, or failing that any reasonable and safe subscription services that show the games?
    Thanks

Its a more defensive side than what we had against Reading, it’s more like the Fulham and Huddersfield sides, I just hope his tactics aren’t the same as Rafa gave those games away due to his approach, Colback for Shelvey and Diame for Perez will naturally bring a more defensive system, I don’t like the side, again to defensive for me, Diame for Shelvey and leaving Perez in would have been better for me, I just hope that Colback and Diame are allowed to get forward and regularly at that, if not then we could be in trouble again, why so defensive, it’s Bristol City and not Man City ffs.
