Rafa Benitez has just announced his team for the second away game of the season at Bristol City today and captain Jamaal Lascelles returns to the starting line-up and partners Chancel Mbemba at center-back.
Newcastle: Sels, Anita, Mbemba, Lascelles, Clark, Ritchie, Hayden, Colback, Gouffran, Diame, Gayle
Subs: Darlow Dummett, Sterry, Hanley, Shelvey, Aarons, Perez
Ciaran Clark keeps his place in the side but moves to left-back and a fit again Mohamed Diame comes back into the side, while Vurnon Anita keeps his place at right back.
There’s no Daryl Janmaat so maybe the rumors he will leave Newcastle this month are true.
Yoan Gouffran keeps his place after a good hard-working game on Wednesday night against Reading.
The two holding midfielders are Isaac Hayden and local lad Jack Colback, who comes back into the side in place of Shelvey who is on the bench.
Young local lad Jamie Sterry is on the bench presumably in place of Daryl Janmaat and he’s a very good right-back in the making.
This is what Rafa has said about today’s opponents:
“From all the reports we have from them we know they are doing well and are a team that play with confidence.”
“All the reports say they are a good team. They are physically strong and good at set-pieces, throw-ins and corners.”
“They are good at long balls and win second balls. They are a team that play with high tempo and it’ll be tough. We know it will be difficult.”
“We practiced on Friday and we don’t have too much time but we said that we have to be ready for a team with this type of approach.”
“They are a team who know what strengths they have.”
Almost seven fans in ten think we will win this game this afternoon.
We need to win this game but it could be very difficult.
Howay the Lads!!

Comment #363Pardew definitely favourite for first sacking like, and those new American investors hold more power than his pal Parish now I think.

Comment #365Not so bad eh…let’s hope all the doubting thomas’ have now fcuked off into their sad little burrows and will only obviously raise their sad little heads when we lose the odd one or two…because it will of course happen but we have a great manager and a large quality squad so we will prevail cometh the hour.

Comment #367Palace will be safe this season. Can see Sunderland definitely going down. They’ve made some poor signings and let their best player in Steven Fletcher go. Yann M’Vila has also gone.

Comment #369You can never complain when you’re winning and not playing well. Just imagine how well we’ll do when this team clicks properly. Huddersfield top and we’ve seen how crap they are – just we managed to be crappier on the day! 😉 .Mitro back Tuesday and then next week. Players still to come in. All looking better every week. Onwards and upwards.

maclown and his poor england record
pardew and those very long bad runs
BFS and that long ball
hogson and his failure to beat the easiest of teams
why don’t any of you bloggers bother trying to be manager it would make england proud to finally geta decent english manager and you all act as though you can do better.

Comment #381Good result today, yes it was only 1 goal and Bristiol City played much better in the 2nd half but you are going to get that in the championship, sometimes it’s about grinding results out plus this will be good experience for players that’s never player In this league.

Comment #385I’d take a scrappy one nil over any kind of loss. People have to remember, this is a process, instant result should not be expected.
We lost the first two, won the next two. Neither win was convincing, but give it time, if we keep wining, it will become convincing.
One more point I want to make is about the keeper sels. He was ment to be the best keeper coming out of Belgium. Ppl are already demanding him to be dropped after a nervy start here.
This is ppl demanding instant results. It all about process. I remember when I used to laugh at man united fans cause there new keeper de gea looked terrible. They said he was the best keeper coming our of Spain. Let’s just say I’m not the one laughing anymore!

Comment #386My mates ex wants me to come round to her house. My mates mum wants a two year casual relationship. Some bloke offered me £20 to buy a drink last night. The girl from last night wanted to bang on the first date. Had to let a few down because I just don’t have the time at the moment.
