Krul Signs New Deal – Could He Still Have Newcastle Future?

11:49 pm, Sunday, August 21st, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 8 Comments

Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul has been offered a new contract and will sign it before going on loan for the season at Ajax.

Tim is wanted by the Dutch giants as a replacement for Dutch number one goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen, who is joining Barcelona.

Krul has only one year left on his contract, but the news in the Mail is that he will sign a one-year extension before leaving for Amsterdam.

Tim Krul – on loan to Ajax

This seems to be like a play by Newcastle to protect their investment in a top goalkeeper, who can now prove his fitness in Holland for the coming season.

For the loan deal Newcastle will have to subsidize Tim’s £60K/week wages, but it seems the loan deal is a done deal and Tim will be leaving Newcastle for the loan soon.

It’s a good question as to whether there is an option to buy in the loan agreement.

Rafa may want to keep his options open and have Tim return next summer in pre-season – and that could depend on how well he plays in Holland and how well the Newcastle goalkeepers play this season.

This is what Rafa said last week on the goalkeeper situation:

“He has one year left on his contract and we have five keepers are the moment, he’s coming back from injury, training hard and improving.”

“We have Sels now, we have Darlow and we have Woodman so we can’t keep five keepers for the whole season.”

“If we can have a solution before the transfer window ends – he is getting fitter but it depends if anyone is interested, if they are, we will listen to them.”

It seems to us that Rafa will want Tim back next summer and that could also be the case with Siem de Jong if he can prove his fitness and form at PSV next season.

This deal gives Tim the chance to play all season and also will save Newcastle money on his wages, while we are in the Championship and getting lower revenues.

It seems a good deal for both the club and the player.

Comments welcome.

Wow, smart play by all concerned. Krul I’m sure quite fancies being a part of the Rafalution, as perhaps does De Jong. Pity we couldn’t have convinced Townsend to do the same.

I concur with Tsunki from previous thread. There is a lot of nonsense and controversial stuff posted on here and I’m sure Kets was under the influence of something or other when he made that vile post.

The problem is when someone insinuates such a sick and unacceptable thing as he foolishly chose to do , then he will never be able to disassociate himself from that disgusting comment.

I genuinely feel for expat as nobody deserves to be subjected to that sordid nonsense.

The way I look at it is if Krul does sign a one year extension and then goes out on loan with a view to a permanent deal then how could he benefit, he couldn’t because if he didn’t sign then in twelve months time he would get a free due to being out of contract and get a whopping signing on fee, so if he has done this then to me it has got to be loyalty, he has agreed to the loan and inevitable transfer but out of loyalty he has also made sure that we get a fee for him, if this is the case then hats off to the lad !

if he’s fit tho he should surely be here helping us than going out on loan especially with his experience

but he would lose out on a huge signing on fee.

Krul’s new contract means that we’ll get a fee for him when/ if he signs for Ajax. Good business sense for once – could it have been Charnley’s idea?

Those are old comments from week or two ago. Who says loan deal done and he’s signed an extension? ? Not seen any comments or reports to back it up
