The Mail are reporting that Newcastle want to sign Tottenham’s American full-back DeAndre Yedlin.
DeAndre signed for Tottenham in the summer of 2014 after impressing for the US in the World Cup in Brazil and he was signed from his home town club – the Seattle Sounders.
DeAndre Yedlin – 39 times capped US International
On loan at Sunderland last season
The 39 times capped American international was on loan at Sunderland last season and played 25 times in the Premier League, but he seems to have no future at Tottenham under manager Mauricio Pochettino.
While DeAndre principally plays at right back he has some speed and can also play on the right wing.
The report is that Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez wants cover at right-back since Daryl Janmaat could well be leaving Newcastle before the end of the summer transfer window with West Ham, Watford and Napoli among the clubs interested.
Daryl is likely to want to leave the second division club before the end of August.
Rafa has made a practice of bringing in players to replace departing players before they leave the club and that could happen with Yedlin coming in prior to Janmaat leaving.
But Yedlin is also in demand from other clubs with Aston Villa reportedly ready to bid for the American a couple of days ago; Hull City and Derby County also interested in the 23 year-old.
Yedlin is available for around £4M and he seems to fit the mold of players Rafa Benitez is looking for.
Talented young players who have the ability to improve under Rafa’s coaching at Newcastle and can become better players for Newcastle in the future – they also have to be available at a reasonable price.
With the news breaking yesterday that Daryl Janmaat could be leaving the club and the fact he didn’t even travel with the team yesterday – suggests he could be on his way,
Yedlin could well be his replacement.
