Newcastle In Negotiations For Talented Young Player

There are various reports that Newcastle are interested in signing 22 year-old Utrecht striker Sebastien Haller, but there are other clubs also after the impressive young French striker.

Sporting Lisbon, Monaco and Everton are the other clubs said to be interested in the player

Sebastien only joined Utrecht last summer from Auxerre on a permanent basis, but he had a great season and in 40 appearances for his Dutch club he scored 24 goals and had 6 assists.

Rafa has said he wants to bring in a big striker and Haller seems to fit the bill at 6ft 2ins tall and he’s rated at around £8M and that is well within Newcastle’s budget.

The difficulty for Newcastle will be to persuade the 22 year-old that his future lies at Newcastle and initially in the English second division.

The player wants to move to the Premier League, so Newcastle’s challenge is to persuade him to spend one season in the Championship first.

Tottenham were favorites to sign him earlier in the year but that deal did not go through and earlier in the summer Everton were the favorites to sign him.

L’Equipe, France Football and Voetbal International are reporting he is Newcastle’s top striker target and that Newcastle are already negotiating for his transfer.

Ajax, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Monchengladbach and Schalke 04 were clubs also linked with the player earlier this year.

Haller has represented France 45 times at various youth levels and he’s scored 21 goals, so he looks like a top striker in the making and exactly what Newcastle need this season.

A player who can improve under Rafa Benitez and be ready to take the Premier League by storm – hopefully next season, assuming all goes according to plan.

Newcastle beat Bristol City 1-0 yesterday on the road and that goes with the 4-1 home win against Reading on Wednesday night.

Hopefully we are now off and running in the Championship and certainly the performance yesterday was a gutsy one from the Newcastle team and just what wee needed to get our first away win since last December.

What do you think.
