We never fancied Dwight Gayle much when we saw him play for Crystal Palace – and when he was signed for £10M in the summer, we were certainly willing to give the lad a chance, but didn’t think he was a particularly good signing.
All change – please.
So maybe we were completely wrong – again – and Dwight looks very good and a natural goalscorer; he could very easily become a big star under the world-class coaching of Rafa Benitez.
Dwight Gayle scored great goal to win the game Saturday
Dwight scored a great goal and is our man of the Match for the first time with 43% of the vote.
We should say that Dwight also went close to making it two in the second half, when his brilliant turn and shot resulted in the ball hitting the post.
Dwight has made a very good start to life as Newcastle’s new number 9 and has 4 goals in 4 games – long may it continue.
Second in voting with 17% is Mohamed Diame and if Moussa Sissoko does leave the club this month, which now looks likely, we will have a new powerhouse in Mohamed Diame, who scores more goals than Moussa.
Diame had an excellent first half and brilliantly set up Dwight for the winning goal.
He tired in the second half, but once he’s fully fit this lad is going to be some player for us – and he cost all of £4.5M – an incredible acquisition by the club.
Third in the voting with 12% is that man again – Yoan Gouffran – for his second good performance for Newcastle in four days and we are hoping the Frenchman, who works his socks of for the side, stays this season and helps us get promoted.
If Yoan does stay and continues to play well and we do get promoted next May – he will be fondly remembered by Newcastle fans.
Anyway, it’s a refection of the man’s good character that he can put these displays in when there’s so much uncertainty surrounding his future this month.
It was an excellent result for Newcastle and a very good defensive display that bodes well for the future.

Comments welcome.

Comment #1How did I forget Mitro?!?
I’d love to see Saivet actually get a game before he leaves so we could at least know if he’s too far below the standard to be of use to us this season. However, he will probably be gone.
I hadn’t seen that Gamez was injured. What is it and how long is he out?

Comment #5Convinced Saviet has one of those clauses – Add on payment after 5 games another payment after 50 games etc etc
Or maybe he’s just shite.

Comment #7If Campbell starts for the U21s today, maybe he’ll only play one half and then another half or more tomorrow? It’s possible. He’s young enough to do that and not feel too many after effects.

Comment #8Wijnaldum gone, De Jong almost gone, Janmaat and Krul likely to go, apart from Anita who is the worst player of the lot it appears as if Rafa isn’t too keen on our Dutch imports ?

Comment #9What can one make of the Galloway business ?
After all the delays and procrastinations, he goes out on loan with WBA.
I suppose it just shows how Rafa is up against it to get anyone decent into our squad.
That, unfortunately, is the harsh reality of relegation.

Comment #10So Rafa is steadily trimming down the squad and has stated he wants to work with about 25 players. Who do we think he’ll have in that core 25? Feel free to add possible players he’s yet to sign (Haller, etc.)
