The Mirror is reporting that Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino will try to use 21 year-old Nabil Bentaleb in a part-exchange deal for Newcastle’s Moussa Sissoko.
Bentaleb joined Tottenham in 2012 from Dunkerque when he was just 17 and over the last four years has played 66 times with one goal for Spurs.
However this could all come to nothing since the French newspaper L’Equipe are reporting a loan deal with German club Schalke 04 has already been agreed for Bentaleb.
21 year-old Spurs midfielder Nabil Bentaleb
Since the Lille-born Frenchman is not in Mauricio Pochettino’s first team squad he has been training with the U-21 side this season.
One problem Rafa could face with a player exchange deal is what Tottenham would rate Bentaleb at in terms of a transfer fee.
It may be better to get a straight cash deal either with Inter-Milan or Liverpool, who were reported to be interested in Sissoko today.
What Tottenham seem to be doing is going for part exhale deal to drive down the price of Moussa Sissoko – and we’re not sure Newcastle would like to deal again with Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy, who is tough and stubborn negotiator.
Levy tends to rate his Spurs players extremely highly in the transfer market and the news is his valuation of Bentaleb is at £15M – so that wouldn’t be a good deal for Newcastle.
It really would depend on how highly Rafa Benitez rates the Algerian Intentional, but it may be better to hold tight and see if Inter-Milan or Liverpool or some other club are willing to pay £35M in cool cash for the 27 year-old French International.
If they are not, then Moussa Sissoko will stay at Newcastle for this season.
