Tottenham Poised To Make Exchange Deal For Moussa Sissoko

11:48 pm, Tuesday, August 23rd, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 96 Comments

The Mirror is reporting that Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino will try to use 21 year-old Nabil Bentaleb in a part-exchange deal for Newcastle’s Moussa Sissoko.

Bentaleb joined Tottenham in 2012 from Dunkerque when he was just 17 and over the last four years has played 66 times with one goal for Spurs.

However this could all come to nothing since the French newspaper L’Equipe are reporting a loan deal with German club Schalke 04 has already been agreed for Bentaleb.

21 year-old Spurs midfielder Nabil Bentaleb

Since the Lille-born Frenchman is not in Mauricio Pochettino’s first team squad he has been training with the U-21 side this season.

One problem Rafa could face with a player exchange deal is what Tottenham would rate Bentaleb at in terms of a transfer fee.

It may be better to get a straight cash deal either with Inter-Milan or Liverpool, who were reported to be interested in Sissoko today.

What Tottenham seem to be doing is going for  part exhale deal to drive down the price of Moussa Sissoko – and we’re not sure Newcastle would like to deal again with Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy, who is tough and stubborn negotiator.

Levy tends to rate his Spurs players extremely highly in the transfer market and the news is his valuation of Bentaleb is at £15M – so that wouldn’t be a good deal for Newcastle.

It really would depend on how highly Rafa Benitez rates the Algerian Intentional, but it may be better to hold tight and see if Inter-Milan or Liverpool or some other club are willing to pay £35M in cool cash for the 27 year-old French International.

If they are not, then Moussa Sissoko will stay at Newcastle for this season.

Comments welcome.

Id go for this. 20M + Bentaleb

  • 2 Bobbybee // Aug 23, 2016 at 11:57 PM

Tell levy to shove it. 15m? Cloud cuckoo price as always from that tight arse. Anyway, i’d rather keep him than let spurs have him cheap.

  • 3 Harley // Aug 23, 2016 at 11:58 PM

Never really seen him play. Anyone know what kind of player he is? (Without quickly googling him).

  • 4 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 23, 2016 at 11:59 PM

I’m delighted Janmaat’s going. I wouldn’t take him if he was free. And that rousing the crowd shite. Give me a break. He could rouse the crowd quite easily if he did something worthy on the pitch. He wins a corner and thinks he’s an all conquering hero. £7.5m. We’re having their eyes out.

So Bobby. Where were you sitting? In a wheelchair space?

  • 6 manxpie // Aug 24, 2016 at 12:01 AM

    get to fusk!

if mane was 36 million lets be real sisko is worth about 10
nowhere near mane’s class but since he “seemed” to have such a great euro’s for some reason he is worth silly money
so to have a swap with this failure no thanks!

  • 7 Bobbybee // Aug 24, 2016 at 12:04 AM

B&B, aye, indeed i was. Wasn’t a bad view for once, along the centre circle-ish.

  • 8 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 24, 2016 at 12:06 AM

I was near the pen spot at the Leazes end. If you entered or exited thatcway, you’d have passed me.

  • 9 manxpie // Aug 24, 2016 at 12:08 AM

5 prem games last season infact 684 mins total which is under 8 full games in all comps 15 mill!!!

  • 10 Bobbybee // Aug 24, 2016 at 12:10 AM

What seat number? I was at ten, right next to the entrance. Close to you, but further along a bit i reckon. Didn’t have to go down that far though.

  • 11 Bobbybee // Aug 24, 2016 at 12:12 AM

Manx, that’s why i said shove it. Levy thinks anybody Spurs sign must be worth a fortune. Can’t see any way he’ll get price for him. Half that at best. And they call us delusional! 😉

  • 12 Fostino // Aug 24, 2016 at 12:17 AM

Wouldn’t read too much into this rumour at all. Spurs do have Mason. .carroll and Yedlin all available

  • 13 JP...from The Rock // Aug 24, 2016 at 12:18 AM

Hahhaa Bentawho!?? Fcuk off Spurs with your ridiculous valuations of players. Money up front or go do one! We want ‘cool’ cash right Ed!? Lol

  • 14 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 24, 2016 at 12:19 AM

Seat 5. Next to a big wide bloke and his son who was in a wheelchair. I moved to 4 or 3 so I could sit one row behind to get a bit of elevation. The son started bashing his dad and his dad started to give it back.

  • 15 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 24, 2016 at 12:23 AM

I can see myself on Sky. I’m behind Diame swinging the ball in. The rare time Newcastle got in their half in the first 45. The boy’s in black and white in tge wheelchair and I’m one row behind in blue t shirt with white on end of sleeves.

  • 16 Bobbybee // Aug 24, 2016 at 12:23 AM

Nice dad eh? 😉 Football violence not gone away then?

  • 17 Pat On The Heed // Aug 24, 2016 at 12:24 AM

Janmaat is/was real class. Shone in a woeful team two years running, including one very deserved player of the season award. Gutsy too, contrary to the witless mob accusors ready to run their next scapegoat out of town, and will shine again in a technical team that has lots of the ball and probes in the final third.

Spin away though boys, spin away.

  • 18 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 24, 2016 at 12:27 AM

    Pat on the Heed
Are you a season ticket holder?

  • 19 Bobbybee // Aug 24, 2016 at 12:29 AM

I’ll keep my eye open. Right now though, i’m away to me bed. At least the injuries aren’t as bad as they could’ve been. Seems like Gayle and Mitrovic were just playing it safe. Poor Aarons looked broken when he passed us, i hope his isn’t as bad as it looked.

  • 20 Pat On The Heed // Aug 24, 2016 at 12:29 AM

Yes. Have you got toon army tattooed on your scroutum b&b?

  • 21 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 24, 2016 at 12:32 AM

Aarons is useless IMO. He’ll never make a top player. Wrong mentality. Not enough talent. Always injured. New and improved 5 year contract.

  • 22 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 24, 2016 at 12:36 AM

    Pat on the Heed
Janmaat will go the same way as Habib Beye. Mark my words. He won’t get a place in a decent team. I can understand armchair fans rating him but not anyone who sees his game regularly. How he got player of the year, I’ll never know.

  • 23 Bobbybee // Aug 24, 2016 at 12:40 AM

Wouldn’t say he’s useless, but his injuries will hold him back. If he ever gets a run of games we might see the best of him, but it’s keeping him fit for that run that’s the problem. He’s got the talent, just not the body it seems to me.

  • 24 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 24, 2016 at 12:40 AM

My prediction that Gayle will get at least twice as many goals as Mitro looks good value. Gayle has impressed me so far. Mitro was poor again, although he did look a bit slimmer and faster.

  • 25 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 24, 2016 at 12:44 AM

Aarons couldn’t get behind a league 2 full back. He’ll go the same way as Vukic, Bigi and all the many others. I see Mbabu hasn’t impressed Rafa enough.

  • 26 Bobbybee // Aug 24, 2016 at 12:49 AM

Aye, i like the look of the new slimline Mitro. Definitely put on a yard of pace too. Anyway, bed is calling and i’m ready. Looking forward to seeing Mitro and Gayle together on Saturday, should be interesting. G’night all.

  • 27 Pat On The Heed // Aug 24, 2016 at 12:49 AM

B&b have you been to Peru? Personally I haven’t had the pleasure, but I do know they have a lot of llamas there. I mean, a lot of llamas.

  • 28 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 24, 2016 at 12:51 AM

    Pat on the Heed
Who was the last scapegoat the witless mob ran out of town? King Percy? Wally?

It’s Rafa who’s selling him. Rafa appears far from convinced. He will be ordering the taxi personally at that price.

  • 29 Pat On The Heed // Aug 24, 2016 at 12:53 AM

We’ve barely started the season. Plenty of time for Aarons and Perez etc. to establish themselves. People had all but written Gayle off 10 days ago. Now he’s the main man. It borders on comical.

  • 30 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 24, 2016 at 12:58 AM

    Pat on the Heed
Have you had a bump on the heed? Perez has had years. Not good enough. Had a half decent game against league 2 oppo after he miscontrolled and got a bump on the heed. Of course, he reminded us of his usual game when he blazed a great opportunity high and wide.

  • 31 Pat On The Heed // Aug 24, 2016 at 1:02 AM

Who was the last player to leave with the fans blessing is a better question? In fact only player to leave with the fans’ blessing? Townsend. Andros – couldn’t wait to activate his deserter clause and press his claim for an England place at PALACE- Townsend. Cisse, Colo, et al who had stuck around for years picking up pieces in crap under-invested in sides got barely a nod of recognition.

Simpson, Williamson, Shola, Jonas, Taylor, Obertan were all meant to be holding us back. Turns out they weren’t. Unless you think relegation was the goal all along of course.

  • 32 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 24, 2016 at 1:03 AM

    Pat on the Heed
Aarons will never make a footballer at this level. The LuaLua boys had far more talent.

  • 33 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 24, 2016 at 1:08 AM

You’re on a wind up. Shola? Taylor? Obertan? Willo? The witless mob were bang on.

Simpson and Jonas weren’t seen in the same bracket as those four.

  • 34 Pat On The Heed // Aug 24, 2016 at 1:08 AM

Amazed and a bit sad to see supporters writing off players like Perez. Especially after scoring a brace. Yes he’s inconsistent but it’s in all our interests to give him a chance to improve. Have you got one of the cheap seats with an obstructed view b&b?

  • 35 Our Toon // Aug 24, 2016 at 1:11 AM

It’ll take mitro at least 5 games to get match fitness mate, we’re you expecting fireworks from him after missing 4 games?

On janmaat I agree, the bloke is a coward, getting sent off on purpose because montero was giving him a roasting, punching a wall to show he cares someone said on previous thread, if he cared he’d learn to defend and cross. The lad was and is a big waste of space…..good riddance.

Aaron’s crock, wasted a 5yr contract on him!!

Benteleb yes please, very good young midfielder with quality on the ball and decent tackler, 15m plus him permanently is a good deal for us and I’d take it

  • 36 Pat On The Heed // Aug 24, 2016 at 1:12 AM

Good squad players who took the brunt of fan frustrations at lack of overall investment. Results were nearly always better with those players in the team. The 11 game unbeaten run – our last good run in fact – featured Obertan as starter. Easier to look past the annoying stats that don’t support your argument i suppose. Especially when you’ve made the placard and everything.

  • 37 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 24, 2016 at 1:15 AM

4 games missed. 5 games to get up to speed. It’s not as if he’s been injured.

If it had only been tonight I was judging Mitro on, fair enough. But it isn’t. He played tonight like he’s played throughout.

  • 38 Pat On The Heed // Aug 24, 2016 at 1:19 AM

Janmaat’s ‘getting sent off’ is a classic case of emergent norm syndrome.

Totally unfounded flights of fancy becoming immutable folklore amongst a group of people with too much time on their hands and too little data..

  • 39 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 24, 2016 at 1:25 AM

Fans get frustrated at the owners, managers and those players who regularly frustrate them with their poor performances. They tell it how it is. Except the many fans like you who won’t have a bad word said against any player because he plays in black and white. All of us want our players to succeed but some don’t measure up. Does every player measure up to you? If not, who doesn’t? Or are they all good players?

  • 40 Our Toon // Aug 24, 2016 at 1:28 AM

So janmaat didn’t bottle it and pulled montero back in Swansea’s half for what reason? Wasn’t any danger, can you come up with a rational explanation

Blackley – yes missed 4 games and take 5 to get up to speed, it Neville and Carragger were saying it takes plays 4 or 5 games to get match fitness after a full preseason. Mitro had a preseason but he’s missed the last 4 games. I’ll take the word of experienced pros that have played the game over old blackley on this one…..sorry mate

  • 41 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 24, 2016 at 1:29 AM

A classic case of emergent norm theory is Janmaat getting player of the season. What other explanation can there be?

  • 42 Ian Toon // Aug 24, 2016 at 1:35 AM

Blackley- Perez has been a major disappointment for me and just has not progressed as I anticipated. I did not see/ hear tonight’s game but saw he scored twice. . I saw him in December at Spurs and I really rated his overall game- he has gone back and plays like a weedy kid who thinks he is star material. He should have used pre season to bulk up in the gym – far too easily brushed off the ball , Certainly one player who has regressed under Benitez.
    Just my opinion.

  • 43 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 24, 2016 at 1:39 AM

Neville and Carragher are talking about 5 games to get right back in the swing. I know exactly what they mean. It can even take quite a bit longer than this to get back to your top game.

But Mitro’s dropped a division. And he should still be very fit, if not fully match fit.

For a big lad, he used to get knocked about and bullied too much. Now he appears slimmer. And he appeared tonight to get knocked about just the same by league 2 players.

  • 44 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 24, 2016 at 1:44 AM

My first impression of Jesus is that he’s not comfortable at left back. Made a couple of good tackles on their winger in the second half.

  • 45 Ian Toon // Aug 24, 2016 at 1:45 AM

On Aaron’s his game was not helped by Macca playing him at LB. Seen as a tactical ploy to move the team 20 yards further up the field.
He certainly didn’t merit a 5 year contract but we were clearly in fear of him moving on for free- which is how we got him from Bristol City. His whole body language does not show confidence.

  • 46 Sliema // Aug 24, 2016 at 1:48 AM

Whether Janmaat intended that second booking or not, it was a pathetic piece of play and he was a bit of a coward imo. Still cheap at £7.5mil if that’s what it really was.

  • 47 Pat On The Heed // Aug 24, 2016 at 2:08 AM

Janmaat lashed out, having been beaten for pace in a desperate team collapse. I don’t believe for a minute he did it to ‘get sent off’. I suppose you think it’s possible, but given we don’t know what he was thinking we could give him the benefit of the doubt, based on his otherwise strong efforts to fight for the team over 2 seasons.

I know giving a good player (and character) the benefit of the doubt isn’t as fun to write on blogs and doesn’t look as good on a banner.

  • 48 Shot Bru // Aug 24, 2016 at 2:11 AM

I reckon a swap deal with Everton for McCarthy and Sissoko, plus cash is better business than dealing with Spurs.

  • 49 Pat On The Heed // Aug 24, 2016 at 2:14 AM

I must say how funny I found all the pats on the back Townsend got on here, having slammed in his transfer request 2mins after the transfer window opened. Coloccini, all round club stalwart of years and years, got dogs abuse meanwhile because of something he was meant to have said about being homesick 3 years ago that stuck. Strange and inverted sense of loyalty on this blog, I tells ya.

  • 50 manxpie // Aug 24, 2016 at 2:17 AM

ourtoon bentaleb a good deal at 15 mill are you serious!?
did you see my stats for last season and that was just playing time!

we got ritchie and gayle for 20 mill!

  • 51 manxpie // Aug 24, 2016 at 2:21 AM

if he’s worth 15 mil then tiote is worth 80 mil and colback 40 mil lol
    ridiculous price

  • 52 Our Toon // Aug 24, 2016 at 2:23 AM

Yes good deal if we get 15m and benteleb permanently, cisse had best mins per goal ratio 2 season ago based on stats, does that mean he was better than aguero that season?

Benteleb had a injury hit season last season, he couldn’t force his way back into the starting line up as Dier and Alli really kicked on. As a prospect and player he’s head and shoulders above anything we have for that position as a holding or box to box midfielder. The fact you compared him to Ritchie and Gayle is a bit confusing as they are attacking players, Gayle a forward and Ritchie a winger / wide player.

Yes I think it’s a good deal for us, we get rid of a player that’s not wanted and we get a very good young prospect

  • 53 Our Toon // Aug 24, 2016 at 2:27 AM

I could give janmaat the benefit of doubt but then Southampton away he was out of position, failed to cut out a a through ball apparently got injured and then punched a wall

  • 54 manxpie // Aug 24, 2016 at 2:36 AM

its not confusing as they are 2 attackers which are far more expensive and always are you have just been saying we need more creativity, for 20 million we have bought what might get us out of this league
and you make the excuse for him being injured but he is now surplus to that club why?
it’s not 15 mil we get btw its he is valued at 15 mil its rediculous
its like us selling tiote for 15 mil he had injury probs last season would we get it?
no ofcourse not but he is still twice the player bentaleb was

  • 55 dazza // Aug 24, 2016 at 2:36 AM

Take us to church Pat. The man speaks the truth.

I’d have Bentalab and Mason off them.

Team them with McCarthy and we would have a decent midfield.

Still need another goal scorer though…

    bentaleb “””””” 26 ga 0 goals 2 ass

    colback 2015/16 29 ga 1 go 1 ass
    bentaleb “”””””” 5 ga 0 go 0 ass

is colback worth 15 mill ourtoon?

  • 58 Our Toon // Aug 24, 2016 at 2:52 AM

He’s surplus because they bought a fella called wanyama for 12m, he’s a beast and ahead of both Dembele and benteleb. That’s why he’s surplus to requirements, if you didn’t know that already then how can you make an informed opinion?

Yes we lack creativity no doubting that but we also lack a LB, a winger and a proper DM with quality.

Would we get 15m for tiote who’s now 30 odd? Has 1 year left on his contract… we wouldn’t just like if benteleb was 30 odd and in his final year of a contract we wouldn’t pay 15m for him. You are comparing a player who’s coming to the end of his career to a player who still has minimum 12 years left in his career.

As for 15m, that’s what levy values him at, he’s not worth that but sissoko isn’t worth 35m. If we get 15m for sissoko and benteleb in exchange then I’ll repeat it’s a good deal for us. We paid 5m for Hayden and he was a bench warmer for Hull and didn’t make the grade at arsenal, and you twist about transfer fee for a player who established himself in a very good spurs side 3 seasons ago.

You have your opinion and I have mine though, it’s clear we won’t agree so let’s agree to disagree

  • 59 Our Toon // Aug 24, 2016 at 2:55 AM

Sissoko 38 games 1 goal, is he worth 35m? Colback matched him if not exceed him does that mean colback is worth 35m – 50m?

Your argument is flawed mate, give it a rest and agree to disagree, when benteleb continues and grows into a good midfielder at another club we’ll continue the debate!! Good night

  • 60 Our Toon // Aug 24, 2016 at 2:58 AM

No I agree when someone punches a wall it shows that they care, but when in a relegation battle though rather than punching a wall and injuring yourself when your club needs you most is definitely a cowards way out.

Catch up tomorrow people, funniest thing I’ve read for a long time though, colback is better than benteleb!! Nice Manx good debate. Hopefully tomorrow brings news of more signings and good news on the injury front

  • 61 manxpie // Aug 24, 2016 at 3:01 AM

ourtoon he ain’t worth 15 mill and certainly ain’t 20 mill if sisko is worth 35 mill
thats my point and let agree to disagree but jesus if we buy a flop for 15 mil after already spending 5 mil more than that on 2 french flops i will seriously blow my top
i’d rather spend 15 mil on your said and my needed places we don’t even need him ffs you surely must admit that!?

  • 62 manxpie // Aug 24, 2016 at 3:10 AM

ourtoon i have already said how ridiculous it was for sisko infact using many many stats but the main point is he “ran about a bit at the euros” i’m still amazed btw!
so no my argument isn’t flawed thanks
it means he is flavor of the month that is all, even tho we know wat he is like!

  • 63 dazza // Aug 24, 2016 at 3:14 AM

Looks like he just signed for shalke. Oh wells. Night all.

  • 64 Our Toon // Aug 24, 2016 at 3:25 AM

Good luck to him dazza if he’s signed for Schalke, not good enough for the toon but good enough for Schalke.

Manx I don’t think any player is worth 10m but unfortunately the money pumped into the PL has massively over inflated prices, what you could get for 5m or 8m now costs 15m. Lukaku is worth 79m more than higuain, the world’s gone mad. Rather than penny pinching over what we pay, we need to join in otherwise we are left behind. Unlike others we’ve signed one thing benteleb would have done is make that jump to the PL which can’t be said for most of the midfield we have except Diame and Ritchie.

Good chat buddy!! Knockaert, forresteri, LB, Yedlin and a forward please

Any news on what type of injury it is for Aarons yet? Bristol City looking more and more like they called it right on releasing him due to injury worries (and attitude).

Pleased we are through, some mixed reports on the performance, and hopefully the injuries aren’t too serious. Still, into the next round, and 3 wins on the bounce can only be good for morale.

Lilo@69. No recriminations from Bristol City faithful about letting Aarons go. I have that on impeccable authority, and Jib of all people might acknowledge that source because he picked up on my reference in a previous post to my uncle Ken.

Talk of exhibit 1 for the defense, for not pursuing these cups too aggressively, when you have a weak squad like NUFC: Last night’s game.

Still, positive: a winning mentality, giving fans a lift, possibly playing against a… PL side.

Negative: depleted squad, a but of a distraction from our real goal.

PS. Feel for Aarons as a person. But I don’t get the five year contract. Anyway, good for him.

  • 75 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Aug 24, 2016 at 7:51 AM

Charlie in the Leazes End tonight
    just got in from match

    My report
Poor first half until we scored – much better second half but we still play the ball sideways and backwards to much

MoM for Toon Diame – Sissoko with attitude more than a replacement.
Shelvey also had a good game along with
Jesus – I know I have called him but put in a decent shift tonight.

Rest OK but we are still ponderous going forward.
Darlow – Looked more assured than Sels came and attacked crosses unlike Sels who flaps
Sterry – Did ok but winger got round behind him to easy
Hanley – looks slow and cumbersome.
Lascalles – OK but not with Hanley – got in each other way time and time again.
Jesus – Had a good game but not under much pressure – linked up well with Perez
DIAME – MOM – strong and powerful – on last nights showing could make a decent centre forward.
Shelley – had a good game but given to much room by Cheltenham – still ha snot brought his shooting boots to the TOON.
Colback – had a decent game did what Colback does best – tackled and broke up play.
Mitro – put himself about – looked rusty needs game time sadly bang on head put paid to that.
Perez – anonymous till bang on head different player after that
Aarons – struggled – wants one to many touches on the ba – ll

Goufran – Had another decent game – got to be in starting 11 for Saturday
Gayle – Set up Perez second goal
Anita – Had a decent game again – missed great chance from great Jesus cross to make it 3

OH and a word for Darlow – got to start with him Saturday – much more assured than Sels

Best player on the pitch was their number 7 Pell ran midfield – Me would put a bid in for him tonight – very good player.

Very glad Janmatt is seemingly going. For a nation of natural footballers he doesn’t seem to have the tools. As poor as Taylor with his positional sense while defending and yes Janmatt gets forward but to almost zero affect with usually a shocking final ball that sails over everyone at the back post. Class he most definitely isn’t.

  • 77 The overrated Frenchman // Aug 24, 2016 at 8:06 AM

Pell is a bit of a knucklehead from what I’ve heard.

  • 78 Jib // Aug 24, 2016 at 8:08 AM
According to Lequipe there are 3 serious teams now in for MS.

    Inter , Everton and Spurs.

It will be so ironic if he ends up at Spurs – the hated rivals of his lifelong supported beautiful club Arsenal.

You needed to day “effect” in that context Rotonda.

You needed to say, to day, Rotonda…..dammit…

  • 81 cyprus // Aug 24, 2016 at 8:14 AM

Thanks for that report. BTW, we should be picking up these players that manage to embarrass our millionaires.

The way they are talking in the Spanish media
Emmanuel Riviere to Osasuna is a done deal.

On transfers, this has not been an outstanding window by any means. We’ve sold some players (our best you must say, or at least the buyers said) for a lot of money. We’re financially sound, buy two three Crouch level players, Rafa. Now, not in January, when it’s notoriously hard, AND it may be a bit late. Don’t do a Wenger.

We will have to play a hell of lot better if we want to beat Brighton than we did last night – especially first half where Cheltenham were the better team.

overrated – Pell – knucklehead – on last nights showing knucklehead or not still would take him. Got up and down the pitch, distribution good always wanted the ball, dropped into space to pick the ball up – TOON could not get near him and he had a voice

  • 86 hibbitt // Aug 24, 2016 at 8:34 AM

not sure what i can add to charlies very good summary
the first half was shocking then perez scored and things started to improve thing to remember this was cheltenham not a prem team
as charlie says pell is well worth a look ran the game for them and looked like he could make the step up

we made it look very hard in the first half but got strong in the second

Diame is starting to look a good buy looked a lot fitter last night and wanted to be part of the game one of the few players who had a decent first half

  • 87 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Aug 24, 2016 at 8:34 AM

From what i could gather from the text comentary, Chelts spent the first half kicking us to fcuk. When we managed to get past that, they had to stop, hence we dominated from there. Since you were there, you can probably tell me how close to.the truth that is? Its hard to get a good idea from text comms.

Steve Ryder said the injuries were weird because it was by no means a dirty game.

  • 89 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Aug 24, 2016 at 8:42 AM

Newcastle United Times on Facebook are saying Rafa has said mitro, gayle and perez should all be fit for saturday, and will let us know soon for certain. Fingers crossed.

  • 90 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Aug 24, 2016 at 8:44 AM

From what I could tell, Chelts were keeping it just this side of legal, but playing hard like a lower league team often does against -suposedly- technichally superior opposition. Once we got round that we seemed to control.

  • 91 hibbitt // Aug 24, 2016 at 8:48 AM

what i would consider normal in ya face lower league cup football they wanted to to win

  • 92 lochinvar // Aug 24, 2016 at 8:49 AM

Janmaat is going to wake up at Watford Gap and feel petty peeved when he sees that Gini’s at Liverpool and Moussa’s at Inter or Spurs or Everton or Palace or QPr or whoever….

  • 93 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Aug 24, 2016 at 8:51 AM

    You couldn’t make it up
I didn’t think they were dirty – seen a lot worse – no more niggly than Colback – just our injuries were weird.
Aarons – seemed to got stood on – won’t surprise me if he has a broken metatarsal.
Mitro – clash of heads when defending
    Gayle – likewise attacking

Rotonda- I sometimes wonder whether your in a football time warp. Scouts are not invading Dutch football it’s not special . I watched PSV on tv on Sunday and was not impressed by the overall standard on display individually and collectively. No wonder the best managers and players speak so scathingly of the slow decline. We were looking for an alternative to the French market but it should not have been the Dutch. Anita was going to be our Fitz Hall one size fits all – geddit! He was an expensive flop for me and another Carr mistake; being unsuited on physicality grounds in the PL. c But under Benitez he seems to have had a good pre season and I keep an open mind going forward. Janmaat I am sure will play a lot better in a better team but I am not overly sorry to see him move on given the incoming replacements.

  • 95 juan // Aug 24, 2016 at 9:23 AM

Must be only me who thinks benetez has made some very poor signings?? Only gayle & Ritchie look and good to me.
I don’t know how people feel about the visit of Brighton but I can’t see us winning against a side that look as though they know how to play together?
