It’s Official – DeAndre Yedlin Signs Five Year Deal At Newcastle

It’s been a busy day on Newcastle’s web-site and the club have just announced the signing of Tottenham right back DeAndre Yedlin on a five year deal, after the American passed his medical.

The 23 year-old becomes the 9th player signed by Rafa Benitez this summer as the Spanish manager is completely rebuilding the Newcastle squad.

DeAndre is thought to have cost us £5M.

Newcastle United Unveil New Signing DeAndre Yedlin

DeAndre Yedlin signs five year deal at Newcastle

Here’s what Newcastle have just announced:

Newcastle United have completed the signing of United States international defender DeAndre Yedlin from Tottenham Hotspur for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old full-back has put pen to paper on a five-year-contract at St. James’ Park and becomes the ninth player to join the Magpies’ first team squad this summer.

Yedlin began his career at the University of Akron in Ohio, before turning professional with the Seattle Sounders in January 2013.

After 18 impressive months with the MLS side, he crossed the Atlantic to join Tottenham Hotspur,  but found game time hard to come by and spent the whole of last season out on loan at Sunderland.

A 39-cap International, Yedlin made his debut in February 2014 and had represented his country at the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Copa America.

Here’s what DeAndre had to say after signing his five year deal:

“Newcastle is such a big and historic club, and I’m excited to have the honor of playing for them. Hopefully I can do great things here,”

“I’m excited to learn under Rafa Benitez as well. He has an amazing resume and I know he will help improve me a lot.”

“I can’t wait to get started.”

Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez added this:

“We have known for a little while of Watford’s interest in Daryl Janmaat, so it was important for us to bring in a replacement immediately.”

“In DeAndre we have a player who knows English football well.”  “He has good experience, an attacking mentality, ability and great pace.”

“I think he can do really well for us and will give us good competition on the right.”

There is competition building in every position at Newcastle and for instance for the right back position we now have DeAndre, Vurnon Anita, Jesus Gamez, Jamie Sterry and Chancel Mbemba who can play there.

This could turn out to be another excellent signing for us.

Here are the 9 senior players brought in so far with the 12 players who have already left the club.

We are now only making £7M profit and if we keep going like this we may even have to spend some real money this summer.

The key word here is pace,

That would suggest Rafa’s tactical plan…and Spurs thought he was faster that Usain Bolt so he must fast. I think he’ll flourish at SJP as Americans have a can do winners attitude and that’s going to be a positive.

Out with the old,,,,in with the new

So Robson-Kanu? Anyone know what’s happening with him? I like what I’ve seen of him.

Gabby Obertan has ended up in Dagestan , East of Georgia and North of Azerbaijan on the shores of the Caspian Sea.

He has signed for Anzhi Makhachkala,

De ceglie for left back and balotelli on loan and giovinco for left wing .. That should do it.

We played them in our last Europa campaign.

Not convinced on Yedlin, he has loads of pace but I think he’s lacking quite a bit. Saying that though I only saw him last season at the mackems and they were nearly as bad as us.

Hopefully Rafa will have him well drilled before he starts a game. I’m expecting Dummy & Gamez to be full backs at the weekend

He appears to be a free agent looking for a big pay day after running his contract down, Blackers.
He says he thinks he’s earned the right to play Premier League Football.
I haven’t heard of us being linked with him. He looked okay at the Euros.
    But then, so did Sisssoko.

    Fostino …

Arma rumoured to be away to Ipswitch on loan
    Haidara forever injured
Rolando looks like he picked up another serious injury last night

I think this kid is a good signing, Janer never really convinced me. He had some good games but god he had some howlers. If Rafa can get this kid to learn the defending part of his position he will be prefect. He is quick going forward and had a bigger engine than Janer.

It’s comforting that Rafa’s on top of things by getting replacements in before outgoings. He really must be beating Charnley over the head to break his inertia!

I can only assume that what we’ve seen of late in Charnley’s difficulties in getting players over the line might have been nothing more than him obeying His Masters Voice (Ashley)’s desire to keep spend to a minimum.

Read earlier that Robson-Kanu is waiting until the last day of transfer window to make his big decision for some reason. Why take that kind of chance? Just look at the offers and get settled!

Living in the states and following the US team, Yedlin, yes is fast. He’s improved on defending, but still needs a good amount of work. The big thing that drives me crazy is he can beat his man, but can’t deliver the ball.

As a Seattle resident and both a Newcastle supporter and a Sounders fan, I’m pysched about Yedlin becoming the 2nd player (after Obafemi Martins) to wear both the rave green and the black & white.
