It was on the St. Etienne web-site earlier today that Henri Saivet has gone on loan to the French club for the season – and now it’s been posted on the Newcastle web-site.
It’s not clear whether there’s an option to buy in the contract, but it doesn’t seem that Rafa rates the Senegal International too highly, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens at the end of the season.
Henri Saivet – off to St. Etienne
This is what Newcastle put on their web-site today:
Newcastle United midfielder Henri Saivet has joined French club Saint-Etienne on loan until the end of the season.
The nine-cap Senegal international joined the Magpies in January from Bordeaux but has made just four appearances to date and only two of those starts.
Saivet last featured for United at the start of February, when he stepped off the substitutes’ bench for the final minute of a home victory over West Bromwich Albion.
The 25-year-old will now play back in Ligue One for the remainder of the 2016/17 campaign.
We wish Henri all the best in France – it’s been a harrowing time for him at Newcastle over the last eight months, but to his credit he’s acted very professionally.
And news today that Daryl Janmaat has passed his medical at Watford, but if the fee is just £7.5M we could have got more than that for the Dutch International.
We thought Daryl would go to Tottenham, because Watford is a smaller club, but it looks like that’s where he’s headed.
Vicarage Road has a capacity of just under 22,000.
It seems that over the weekend it was decided that Daryl would move out and Rafa and Lee Charnley then started to work on bringing Tottenham’s 23 year-old American right back DeAndre Yedlin to the club.
Yedlin is undergoing his medical today at Newcastle.
Here’s the 12 senior players we have shipped out and the eight we have brought into the club – up until now.

We’ve only played well once in the last five games. I can’t be on with blowing smoke up players’ arses on the basis that they’re good players who are rusty or just not gelling or just settling in. People were making the exact same excuses for most of last season. Players are having average games and people are saying they’re brilliant. What’s wrong with saying it how it is? Not how it might be. Because if the players don’t improve quickly, and if Rafa doesn’t get it right soon, this season will prove very difficult. We should be pulling out all the stops to get a striker to play alongside Gayle. And to get a couple of top midfielders.

Comment #7Not sure why we let Saivet go, he’s versatile and could be useful at some point. 2msk21dec; de Ceglie would be a good call in 2012 or so… He’s hardly kicked a ball since, we need hungry players – not this kind of profile.
Janmaat started off well, but had a poor poor second half last year.
