Here are the highlights from last night’s 2-0 win against Cheltenham in the second round of the EFL Cup.

Looks like we missed quite a few chances in that second half.

That pass from Gayle for Perez’s tap-in. What a wonderful example of a team player.

Looks like we could – should have 5 or 6 in fact – a few more accurate crosses and determination to bundle the ball into the net would have done that so job done.

    What was the attendance ?

Id have mitro as the Plan B until he is fully match fit.

Start with Gayle and give him x amount of minutes each match to build him up until ready. Would be nice to have him fully fit for saturday with Gayle but would ratehr have 11 fully fit players on the pitch to begin with.

Mick Lowe was saying it’s straight after the Mackems game tonight.

I thought Gayle was going to round the keeper when he passed, and he easily could have, good man. Many sitters, not chances, Ed! Perez skyed from 5 yards, Shelvey hit tangled up with the ball in his legs the list went on, several tap-ins fumbled and have been at least 5 nil. Dreadful first half but a lot down their horribly dense and dirty defending, and a rejigged team (as usual these days) . Shelvey seemed in command and if he played with the same effect in the championship he would be very useful – he should lay off shooting mind! Some of his passes and his spreading of play showed that if he concentrates he can be very good at tiring opposition midfields. Diame you could tell was missing a yard but unlike Sissoko he had a few tricks and is way better with ball at feet. He beat two defenders after a couple of stopovers, tell me when Moussa last did that! Entertainment was brief but memorable, the four back heel passes in a row was highly funny. The lads who stand right up in the back of the Gallowgate weren’t allowed in that section so moved to the right rear corner, and duly removed a section of the SD signage, which shows it’s not one-off cup visiting goons but regulars who can get up to shoddy antics. A very warm and muggy, slightly surreal night but nice to be back in my old gaunt and it seemed like more than 24k there.

    Ian / Pushy / Carl,

I think I’d rather be in a time warp than being lectured by a know nowt stalker, fantasist and prize bulls—–r. How’s your mate Al these days?

    Over rated frenchman.

Duly noted grammatical points. Most days I think I could get a job helping with literacy rates in the North East!

WOW some of those misses were unbelievable . They have got to start putting those chance away , we wont get them against brighton. We have to get into the habbit of showing more composure in front of goal , if we dont , we wont go up , thats my opinion, when a chance comes, we have to take it. Perez is ok , however not the finished article , he should have had 4 not 2 , sounds abit hard but its true

Funny they announced just over 24,000. Maybe they got their sums wrong on the night.

F me there was some stylish play in there. Some missed chances – but brilliantly created chances.

strange game last night …could and should have scored a lot more ….injuries were not from dangerous play and accidental …my main conclusions apart from those already mentioned were that shelvey put a shift in ..perez is getting better …diamme is going to be a big player this season ..and ,hanley (who looked slimmer) and jesus will be able to slot into first team
