Newcastle Fans React On Twitter To Yedlin Signing

5:52 pm, Wednesday, August 24th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 116 Comments

Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter on the news that 23 year-old Seattle-born DeAndre Yedlin is the 9th new signing for Newcastle United this summer.

Daryl Janmaat left earlier today for Watford and Rafa Benitez certainly doesn’t mess around.

I remember watching Yedlin play few years ago at the world cup for USA. He was awesome. Was raging spurs signed him that summer then. Must admit I stopped following his career then but reports says he’s improved as a player since then so I’m very optimistic

  • 2 Belfast // Aug 24, 2016 at 5:58 PM

That was a terrible joke Jamie

  • 3 lochinvar // Aug 24, 2016 at 6:00 PM

Spurs fans rated him ” faster than Usain Bolt” so the key to his signing is pace .
Rafa has a plan, an attacking plan.
Think he might even make the bench for Saturday.

Dummett picked for Welsh squad so two Internationalists at once….

  • 4 Shadow_Shearer // Aug 24, 2016 at 6:03 PM

My understanding is rafa doesn’t like to push his full backs forward. I’m sure this kid will do well. He looks rapid. Imagine another teams trying to counter down his side. He will catch them nearly ever time

  • 5 WWSBRD // Aug 24, 2016 at 6:04 PM

He’s not improved too much from what I’ve seen since the Workd Cup but hopefully he will impress for us, he will face the same issues Janmatt did though being very attacking anod not so well defensively

  • 6 Fostino // Aug 24, 2016 at 6:13 PM

    Anita mbemba lascalles jesus

    Whats happened to Alan Judge?

Locked in a hotel room with Barnetta!

  • 8 Readingmag // Aug 24, 2016 at 6:26 PM

    B %&B asked

So Robson-Kanu? Anyone know what’s happening with him? I like what I’ve seen of him.

Answer – DONT TOUCH HIM,. average player…Yes He scored that goal, not well thought of at Reading, and an odd ball as a person

  • 9 giimps // Aug 24, 2016 at 6:26 PM

Yeah, Craig Coozy has the key at the Jesmond Dene hotel

  • 10 WWSBRD // Aug 24, 2016 at 6:28 PM

I imagine Judges hold up could be medical related considering his leg break and issues surrounding that

  • 11 Our Toon // Aug 24, 2016 at 6:33 PM

Does this now mean more US sports channels will show toon games, meaning those of us here can stream games easier?

I’m well happy with this signing, young lad that can still grow, has pace to burn which is just what we need

  • 12 GeordieTwo // Aug 24, 2016 at 6:35 PM

Welcome to Yedlin and goodbye to Janmaat. Youth and pace coming in but defensively? Any better than Janmaat? I’ll have to wait and see. Still the pace is nice. Still worried about the left side though although possibly Gamez is going to actually play there? Where does that leave Anita? It’s exciting to see the club transformed though!

  • 13 Our Toon // Aug 24, 2016 at 6:36 PM

Robson Kanu had offers from China but turned them down as he wants to play in the premier league, I’d stay well clear of him the lad is pants.

Fostino – interesting line ups mate, shows competition for places but it also highlights the weaknesses in creativity, a strong DM and wingers. More so than a forward!!

  • 14 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 24, 2016 at 6:37 PM

Leaving aside that goal (he’ll never score another as good) his general play was very good. I don’t know about his attitude.

It’s all about winning mentality for me. The determination to make the vital difference in a game. The full blooded commitment. Too many players wear the shirt like any other. It’s just a job to them. They turn up, do their little bit, jump in their flash cars, drive home, out in a taxi down the town.

  • 15 GeordieTwo // Aug 24, 2016 at 6:43 PM

I’m getting seriously excited about my new venture Blog Droppings. It’s got all the hallmarks of the next Manly Men Inc. I read what you lot are thinking aboot on here then I formulate nice turns of phrase around that and sell it back to you in newsletter form for only7 euros a month! Beautiful!

  • 16 Our Toon // Aug 24, 2016 at 6:43 PM

It’s a classic case of a player performing in the euros, Robson Kanu had nothing to lose, he had no club and put himself in the shop window…..much like sissoko did and many others before them.

  • 17 Tsunki // Aug 24, 2016 at 6:45 PM

Pat absolutely spot on there couldn’t agree more with whatever you say next

  • 18 GeordieTwo // Aug 24, 2016 at 6:45 PM

Is this lad Judge still in a cast and on crutches? Even so he may be better than some of the MF we’ve brought in in the past few years. Can he start against Brighton?

  • 19 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 24, 2016 at 6:46 PM

Nobody has an opinion on Krul going?

  • 20 GeordieTwo // Aug 24, 2016 at 6:48 PM

    Bring back that lovin’ feelin’
    Whoa, that lovin’ feelin’
    Bring back that lovin’ feelin’
    ‘Cause it’s gone…gone…gone
And I can’t go on, woah
You’re doing it Rafa, you little Spanish fly you!

  • 21 Tsunki // Aug 24, 2016 at 6:50 PM

A strange one with Krul. Having spent so long out he come under the uber-critical scrutiny of a few bloggers who decided to forget his best bits and highlight the worst. Me included I’ll admit, I focused on his lack of ability to play from the back, maybe not his fault (dodgy tactics) but his distribution was lacking, and his kicks were too high and looping. As a shot stopping goalie though, he will be a miss. He was still our best. I think he just didn’t fancy his career with a championship campaign to come back to. Nice bloke though

  • 22 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 24, 2016 at 6:51 PM

Disappointed to lose Janmaat, but this is an ok replacement. We need to get rid of Dummett and Colback and replace them plus sign two wingers, a playmaker and 2 strikers

  • 23 Shadow_Shearer // Aug 24, 2016 at 6:52 PM

    Any updates on aarons injury???????

  • 24 GeordieTwo // Aug 24, 2016 at 6:52 PM

Hoy Tsunki mate. You’re trending on here. Why not be the first to subscribe to Blog Droppings? It’s got everything you need in a filthy lying rag. It’s got top, top rumours, enormous headlines, millions of chest hair adverts. Come on Tsunki.

  • 25 Fostino // Aug 24, 2016 at 6:53 PM

Out with the french and Dutch. In with the irish, Scottish, English and now American.

  • 26 Tsunki // Aug 24, 2016 at 6:54 PM

I’ll wait for the reviews G2. Besides I make up most of the crap myself. I should be getting royalties 🙂

  • 27 GeordieTwo // Aug 24, 2016 at 6:55 PM

To see Krul go back to Holland is very sad Blackley mate. Packing up all his really thin socks. Staring oot at the ground he has played so many matches on. Wondering if he’ll ever be back. Playing for so many pillocks over the years. Now it’s got me going as well sob!

  • 28 GeordieTwo // Aug 24, 2016 at 6:56 PM

You just can’t make up for skinny feet Tsunki. It ruined his distribution. A crying shame. He had many wonderful games for us.

  • 29 Readingmag // Aug 24, 2016 at 6:59 PM

    B & B

Hes not for us …attitude, not a team player.

think Sissoko then half it. the half it again.

Put it this way, there was no leaving presentation when He left. Glad When He left

  • 30 GeordieTwo // Aug 24, 2016 at 7:00 PM

Well here are the first reviews on this side of the Big Pond Tsunki to help you make up your mind:
“It’s absolutely vile. Where does he get those rumours? Is he completely mad?” The Boston Herald
“For the first time in my life I realized how horrible it is to read clearly fictional accounts of a fabulous football club and its supporters. Does the author have no shame whatsoever? I’m disgusted.” Seattle Post Examiner.
If you need more Tsunki I’ll send them right along.

  • 31 GeordieTwo // Aug 24, 2016 at 7:03 PM

So just 7 more incoming Kets? Hmmmm. That won’t cost much then. Unless you count Yedlin as one, then it’s only 6. Not likely. Two more at most.

  • 32 GeordieTwo // Aug 24, 2016 at 7:05 PM

Are you talking aboot Timmy Readingmag? That seems a little harsh. He stuck with us through one relegation already. He stuck with us through pinheads like Joe Kinnear, Johnny C., and Monsieur Steve McMuffin. He was a fine keeper for us. He deserves many thanks.

  • 33 Jail for Ashley // Aug 24, 2016 at 7:07 PM

Always a big fan of Krul, been here forever, adopted Geordie and not a bad keeper as well. Then one early Sunday afternoon we’re getting beat off the mackems, he’s seen walking down the tunnel at half time, not screaming and shouting and with a face like thunder but laughing and joking with the guy who’d just condemned us to what was going to be our fifth defeat in a row off our lowly rivals. From that day on I’ve never really thought that much of him.

  • 34 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 24, 2016 at 7:09 PM

Don’t rate Krul. It looks as if Rafa doesn’t either.

The ground for optimism is the two clean sheets. We have the makings of a good defence with Janmaat, Colo and Taylor gone.

  • 35 GeordieTwo // Aug 24, 2016 at 7:15 PM

Krul’s play did drop off in the last couple of seasons. I was surprised he wanted to stay during the first relegation. He has huge hands and great size for a keeper. A shame about the tunnel event. Not clear if that means he wasn’t a decent keeper for us though. Fifteen clean sheets in 2012 season. I remember a lot of very decent games.

  • 36 Readingmag // Aug 24, 2016 at 7:20 PM

    Gerald Geordie two

    What ‘Timmy’Reading Mag….what you on about…

It was a complement to Sissoko…engaged it yet.

  • 37 Jail for Ashley // Aug 24, 2016 at 7:20 PM

    From much earlier,
Two things, you say that I’m only posting to moan about moaners, I think I post on a wide range of topics and not just moaning. Admittedly I have been moaning about Munsters moaning because I think it’s been way over the top and not all the time called for (Rafa said he was quick) (another Rafa signing) (Rafa’s not exactly pulled any trees up). But you said that after I’d responded to ToF, he’d basically come out and said that Rafa was a yes man, model employee as in he’s doing what he’s been told and is pretty much just in it for the money, how am I moaning about moaning by disagreeing with that, wholeheartedly disagreeing with that in fact. I have not been able to like anything about the club for the last seven years and now I want to believe in them again because of the appointment of Rafa Benitez, I am not going to start griping about Ashley screwing him over until he actually does.
As for your second point about Rafa steering the ship until a better owner comes in, that I find much more palatable.

    Any news on aarons injury????

  • 46 GeordieTwo // Aug 24, 2016 at 7:25 PM

Oh, oh. Kets is raving again. Here we go with Santon. The man who’s failed several medicals recently and can’t kick a ball with his left foot when he plays LB. Das Boot has made it clear he won’t come to us as well as we’re not in the Prem. Not likely we’ll get KnockClarts either.

  • 47 welshgeordie9 // Aug 24, 2016 at 7:27 PM

Look Mister I’ve made a spelling mistake or is it just jib you have a go at even though everyone does it.

  • 48 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 24, 2016 at 7:27 PM

What about this Brentford player were trying to sign. That’s a joke.

  • 49 GeordieTwo // Aug 24, 2016 at 7:28 PM

Aarons has a foot injury that may keep him out for some time Shadow mate. His was the most serious injury of the three according to Rafa. They aren’t saying whether anything is broken yet as far as I can tell.

  • 50 welshgeordie9 // Aug 24, 2016 at 7:29 PM

Out of all of those signings let me see now how many of those we will sign, 1234……..none.

  • 51 Jail for Ashley // Aug 24, 2016 at 7:31 PM

No I haven’t and I’m not going to make bollocks up either. I think this guy has played at quite a high level though.
”But coming together with an opponent and smiling after he’s scored against you in a match of such importance? No, I’m sorry. I can’t understand why any player would feel the need to do that. At the end of the game? That’s not an issue — there is no more appropriate place for sportsmanship”

  • 52 Mag52 // Aug 24, 2016 at 7:33 PM

    My team for Brighton :

    Anita Mbemba Hanley Dummett
    Shelvey Diame Colback
    Ritchie Perez

Will be good to see Chrissy H back again. Respect to the man.
Hope the lads get it together and put on a performance, which would ensure a cracking atmosphere.
    Big test Brighton like!

  • 55 GeordieTwo // Aug 24, 2016 at 7:36 PM

Lightweight up front and most people don’t rate Colback this season Mag52 mate. Apparently Mitro will be available. It wasn’t a concussion.

  • 56 GeordieTwo // Aug 24, 2016 at 7:37 PM

Not sure Rafa will pick Hanley to start either.

  • 57 Jail for Ashley // Aug 24, 2016 at 7:39 PM

His time was up mate, unfortunately nearly five years of four, five and six goal defeats takes it’s toll, he became just to used to losing, that mentality had to be banished from the dressing room.

    Geordie Two.

Maybe you’re right on Colback, but I’ve a feeling that Rafa might rate him.
Gayle’s surely got to start hasn’t he, with Mitro, if he’s recovered coming on late.

  • 66 Fostino // Aug 24, 2016 at 7:57 PM

    Players out vs players in

    Krul vs Sels. …krul

    Janmaat vs Yedlin. ..draw

Colo vs hanley …Hanley. .Just about

    Taylor vs clark..Clark. .Just about

    Jesus vs mbabu…jesus

    Ritchie vs townsand …prob townsand

Diame vs wini….I’m going to say Diame will be more consistant

    Hayden vs tiote…hayden

Left wing is a grey area

    Cisse vs gayle…gayle easily

    Other striker a grey area

So out of 9 positions we’ve improved in 9 in my opinion

  • 67 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 24, 2016 at 7:58 PM

We’ve lost 7 big players in Townsend, Janmaat, Coloccini, Cisse, Thauvin and possibly Krul and Sissoko. We haven’t really replace them. I approve the following signings:

    Gayle needs time.

  • 68 Fostino // Aug 24, 2016 at 7:58 PM

    Improved I’m 6 I mean

  • 69 Pat On The Heed // Aug 24, 2016 at 7:58 PM

Jail. They say video killed the radio star. Not in your case, you’re soaring.

  • 70 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 24, 2016 at 7:59 PM

Hayden looks ok for this league. Not sure about Sels, Clark, Hanley and Gamez.

We need at least 4 attack minded players.

  • 71 colwell // Aug 24, 2016 at 8:04 PM

At last we have a full back who is rapid as fcuk, No one in the championship will be able to do him for pace. How many times does Janmaat come up against a quick winger and get ruined, booked and sent off. Yedlin for Janmaat is a great upgrade.

  • 72 welshgeordie9 // Aug 24, 2016 at 8:07 PM

Ritchie much better than Townsend, both can score and create but Ritchie is more consistent.

  • 73 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 24, 2016 at 8:08 PM

Ritchie was our best signing. Can see us resigning Janmaat if we get promoted. Good player.

  • 74 Jail for Ashley // Aug 24, 2016 at 8:08 PM

    Pat on The Heed,
Evetone has forgotten that I’d even called the radio except for Jibberish but that’s understandable, however carl was the first person to make a comment after I’d phoned in, then surprisingly Ian Toon, how bizarre, now you’ve mentioned it about five times, coincidence, I tells ya, it must be,
    catch ya later.

  • 75 Mag52 // Aug 24, 2016 at 8:09 PM

    Big players in what respect.
I wouldn’t say that Cisse, recent seasons, Thauvin, Sissoko, have shown themselves big for NUFC, while Colo, again recently, and Janmaat have been medium at best.

Divvent worry man, the fog’ll have cleared by then!
So will Mitro’s head hopefully. Bit of a tasty battle with that Lewis Dunk I reckon. Knockaert will need a bit of attention s our defence will have to get their act solidly together.
I’m expecting to start seeing some improvements in how we manage our defending, given Rafa is supposed to be known for a more defensive style generally.
Our results so far flatter us in terms of the defending in my opinion. Teams haven’t took their chances very efficiently against us.

  • 83 Tsunki // Aug 24, 2016 at 8:28 PM

Ket’s idea that we will sign ex-players who were in different or lacked loyalty in the past don’t quite carry the air of a Pogba-style scenario. Or any scenario come to think of it.

Ketsy, we won’t be going back cap in hand for Marveaux, Abeid, Santon or Janmaat. Honestly.

And if you had done the decent thing after your reckless juvenile outburst the other day, I wouldn’t expect your return either tbh.

  • 92 BandB // Aug 24, 2016 at 8:35 PM

Mbemba has been the quiet man in this whole window, keeping his own counsel, staying out of the limelight.
My mind keeps flicking back to him while looking at the seemingly ongoing search for defenders.
He was arguably the most successful of our signings last season.
It’s hard to believe he won’t have suitors, will be any more willing to play Championship football than any of the others who have left, or won’t be able to accrue a tidy profit.

  • 93 Belfast // Aug 24, 2016 at 8:36 PM

We keep reading we are chasing a central defender, maybe because as was said of Janmaaat today, we know another is leaving already. And Rafa made a big point on saturday of saying lots of players didn’t know whether they’d be leaving or staying.
A bit like Cluedo, it comes to the point when you know who it is because it can’t be any of the others.

Gooners are linked with half a dozen central defenders from Valencia to Manure. It doesn’t have to be Mbemba who I would hate to lose anyway

I meant among our defenders. Lascelles is captain, the other two have just landed. If someone is to leave now, all pointers point to Mbemba.
As always, it gets to the stage when you fear the window may have more shocks than surprises in store and you couldn’t even rule out an offer for Shelvey or Mitrovic being accepted.

Jurgen played him in the midfield a couple times.

People are calling this a rebuilding window, but its a purge window in essence. A total changing of the guard.

Less than 14,000 at the Paladium of Sh1te.
    Pink seats everywhere.

I try not to pay too much heed to them, but I will laugh my Cojones off if the Shrews beat them.

Haha we’ll sell Mbemba and won’t replace him. Joke. We’re not going up at this rate.

The comments section on the Shields Gazette website for this story was hilarious. So we have an article written by the resident NUFC reporter for the Gazette about a Spurs player sighing for the Toon and it was all Mackems talking about how much they hate Ellis Short and turning on Moyes for letting all their best players go. Hardly a mention of the actual article, just the Scum whinging as usual.

Oh look Pat on the Heed vents his umbrage at being id’d for the Rev Toon to the point that he forgets entirely to refute it. 😀 curious behaviour.

    Ketsy we probably have though.

I used to think the whole playing staff was like a Frankenstein’s Monster, with living body parts being stitched onto a rotting corpse every transfer window and going gangrenous in turn.
Maybe Rafa wants to ditch the whole Chimera. I’m sure he would be pushing on an open door, and let’s remember also that he seemed to hint last week that this was more than a one season job.

SMBs have just scored. Anyone fancy facing them at SJP in the next round? I’d take that.
