Rafa Benitez Upset About Newcastle Winger

Rolando Aarons has been fit most of this year and we were hoping he could stay fit and get some playing time under his belt this season, but it was bad news last night as Rolando seems to have picked up a foot injury and he was stretchered off last night in the first half.

We don’t know how serious it is – whether it is a fracture – but it is likely he could be out for some time.

Rolando Aarons – picked up an injury

Last night was a bruising affair as four of our players Ayoze Perez, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Dwight Gayle and Rolando Aarons all picked up some kind of injury.

The first three suffered concussions, but all three will be available for the important game against Brighton at St. James’ Park on Saturday.

However, that’s not the case with Rolando who left the ground last night wearing a protective boot.

This is what Rafa said after the game:

“We are really pleased with the result because we won and go through. But we are disappointed because we have injuries, three concussions, but I don’t think they will be a problem.”

“Rolando has a problem with his foot, so we have to wait to see what the doctor says. That is the most serious of the injuries.”

“I was worried during the game because we had three substitutions and at 2-0 if they pull one back in a cup competition anything can happen.” “I didn’t want extra time or anything like this.”

“We were trying to protect Dwight Gayle because he’d played the last few games and Mitrovic needed match fitness.”  “We had to change it around quickly.”

“We won though and hopefully they’ll be fine.”  “We are really upset for Rolando though.”

It’s a pity about Rolando – let’s hope the injury is not too bad for the youngster.

Expect Aarons will be a bad one, doubt we will see him again before New Year others should be fine for Brighton

Need attackers and a LB in sharpish

Given Rolando’s history, I wonder if his susceptibility to injuries is a product of his lifestyle?

    Any thoughts?

That’s Aarons out for a few months I think.

Colback did well, in parts. As mentioned before he kept hold of the ball and wax alright sideways, but when it came to getting forward was still easily confounded even against this opposition. Alarmingly I’d say he’s doing well to be a mainstay in a championship team, I really hope he’s not going to remain our go-to in midfield.

I suppose apart from the win, the positives to take out of the game is that it really highlights the need for a LW and another striker.

I wonder if he’s got some kind of pay per play involved in his deal, it’s getting ridiculous.

Aarons wasn’t exactly setting the wing on fire up to then mind. Wasn’t on long enough to warm up I suppose you could say.

This is why i said weeks ago that we shouldnt count Aarons in the squads that everyone was putting up for this season.

He would be a bonus player, that is all. Some had him as the first choice LW! Until he plays 30+ games in a aseason then you cant rely on him, just see him as a bonus whenever he can play.

We still need that LW position filling and that was before Aarons got injured. So assuming, maybe wrongly, that he will be out for a while, then we need 2 LW now?

Shame as he has much potential but we have been in this situation before and very few of our injury prone youngsters actually sort themselves out and make the grade.

Apparently he’s bang in to Fellside rambling, maybe he’s not wearing the right type of footwear.

I though there was a directive about concussion that you could not play for something like a week afterwards? Not sure Gayle had it but Mitrovic certainly did!

Yeah worryingly we only have Ritchie as winger now, Goofy makes do but hes not the answer similar with Perez

    Need more and soon

If we really think Sissoko will move on for 25m+ and we are getting 7m+ for Janmaat then Id go back in for Knockaert with a 15m cash offer and see what happens.

Overpaying to a certain point but how much is he worth if he helps get us promoted? And taking him away from a rival.

Though maybe Brighton will say no regardless of the amount.

I think it’s following publicity surrounding a ‘second knock’ danger that can lead to serious complications. A concussion needs to be rested so no residual swelling can be sparked off again by a subsequent blow.

Brighton would take 15 million for him, Ulloa was there biggest ever sale at 9 million.
I think well beat Brighton just need to match them up sitting back wont work.

Aarons almost ready to be consigned to the scrapheap as far as I’m concerned.

Diame is a much better player than Sissoko and has similar running power, not as quick, but much more fluid, natural and controlled with the ball at his feet.

    Sissoko – £25-30m

    Janmaat £7.5-10m

    Yedlin – £5m

    Knockaert – £12-15m

    Brady £12-15m

    Crouch £2-3m

Sorted. Would be very confident of our promotion chances then.

Pleased with the win last night. Job done. Shame about the concussions, though.

Mick Lowes was saying on the radio that if it is concussion, then Mitro won’t be playing on Saturday as he’s not allowed to under the rules. We’ll see, I guess.

If Concussion he is not allowed to play for 7 days at least after the incident – so it could be both Mitro and Gayle

Also wonder if RAFA had been told both could miss game so pushed Diame upfront as a experiment for Saturday if both missing

Jail for Ashley said it – about the boots.
Can’t help thinking that some players are using the wrong boots and they don’ offer enough protection,

Would make sense to include a some foot specialist in our medical team to check on these things.

and there was me thinking it was the wrong type of grass

    A bit of Jibbery-Pokery for you 🙂

That American football of course, but that’s probably the concern. Given the Jeff Astle case a few years back I think the powers that be are recognising that concussion, along with the repetitive blows from heading the ball, the odd elbow etc, might be a ticking time bomb.

Taking someone off as a precaution just because they’ve had a knock-cut-scrape needing head bandage is different to a definitive medical diagnosis of concussion.
On that basis I would hope that both Gayle and Mitro are fit as there is no suggestion of any significant issues.

Not worth risking a life for a game of football, if he was concussed and it sounds like it, let him rest for however long it takes for the docs to say it’s ok, the last thing we want is to bring him in too soon and him end up permanently damaged.
Vs Brighton, I would defo have Darlow in nets, gamez and Anita Fb Lascelles and Mbemba Cd, Shelvey,Hayden Cm Ritchie Gouffy wingers and Gayle up front with Diame as the 10.
It would be nice to have Yedlin in and available for Rb and the Moroccan lb for this game as its a 6 pointer for me, if we win we go above them and the roller coaster gathers momentum,if we lose were 5 pts adrift and the roller coaster stalls….a draw wouldn’t be a bad result but prefer the good ship Rafa to be in full flow going into the international ( I hate these internationals so early in the season) break
